The web interface is a little clunky, but Admin's can use all the standard Windows tools to modify the 'active directory' structure, and all configurations once installed. I have been running in a small business office since 2018, v4.2. I have done inline upgrades to 6.2 without issue. It provides numerous solutions from DNS, DHCP, Firewall, Samba/File Share, Roaming Profiles and a laundry list of other services. We used it to replace a Windows 2003 AD server that only provided DNS, DHCP, LDAP/Login Services. We migrated the file share services to a NAS and connected that NAS to Zentyal by configuring it to connect to "active directory" Unified login for the NAS while mapping drives, etc. It performs identical to AD for the services above and costs ZERO from a license stand point. This is also running in an environment with NO IT Support in house. All support is contracted out, and the total cost of ownership for the Zentyal instance is ~$500 since 2018. $200 for the cost of the micro PC to run it, and some consulting time. We have also attached macOS systems with smooth results. It simply works and can replace AD in small operations that cannot support the continued upgrade paths for Microsoft server products. On my last installations (v 7.0) I always find the same error, dashboard ('webadmin' control panel) disappears (can not connect to) after some time, need to use a script to keep it alive ( /usr/bin/zs webadmin restart >/dev/null 2>&1 ) each 3 or 6 hours, for example. Maybe it is time to move to another alternative, it is getting obsolete and difficult to maintain systems with these conditions. Good luck Zentyal Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 7.0 Rating: 9 Date: 2021-04-07 Votes: 1 There are a lot of things to like about this distro, especially if you are already an Ubuntu user. It is a very easy install. I am using the Development version. It did not work perfectly upon completion. But a few small changes later it's working great. Works great with all my devices and is rock-solid stable. Email, Calendar, and Task lists all work just fine. The admin screen is very well done. One small concern is that it is telling me that someone is trying to brute-force my SASL logins but no method of dealing with it is included with the distro. However, adding fail2ban using the standard methodologies takes care of that. Mine is a VM. and it's needs are very small, very happily existing and working as one. I am not using Samba at all. Don't need it. And do not have a AD Domain so I cannot comment on these features. Was this review helpful? Yes No
