Ubuntu Cinnamon is an official flavour of the Ubuntu distribution featuring the Cinnamon desktop. The project strives to offer modern tools while providing a user-friendly desktop which will feel familiar for users coming from other operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

In principle, everything works, but I feel that I can't use the distribution because crash reports keep appearing from the distribution. The first one comes right when starting. Then they come with Firefox and Thunderbird, when printing.... These notifications come several times an hour. They don't prevent the use of the distribution, of course, but they are not nice to have all the time. Everything works fine with Linux Mint and Debian Cinnamon. This should have been tested better before it was made available for download. That's why I'm switching to another distribution.
I have two laptops, one running Linux Mint, the other Ubuntu Cinnamon (UC). I certainly believe Ubuntu based distributions are better as they offer better support in terms of software and hardware. I ended up preferring Ubuntu Cinnamon as the look and feel appears more modern compared with Linux Mint. The other advantage of UC is you get Ubuntu Pro support for free, which means better supported and improved security, so this has to be a significant advantage.
I’m running the 24.04.01 edition (LTS) as interim Ubuntu versions can be hit and miss in terms of compatibility and application stability, the LTS version is rock solid.
I really like the Cinnamon desktop environment, particularly UC’s themes, as it feels easy to use and flexible enough the offer the changes I tend to apply. I like the taskbar in the bottom centre, and a top bar with the date and system icons.
I have used many other distros through the year and cannot recommend these two enough.
Installed on my home built chosen compatible parts machine with MSI B550-A-Pro, AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super 16gb, Memory 16GB, 1GB M.2 and it runs fast, smooth no issues. All apps including apps installed from Store are working with no problems. Gave up Microsoft Windows 11 Pro that I had installed first and was disappointed in the directions Microsoft has chosen to take in the 21st century with the windows operating system.
Tried several linux distros but found that Ubuntu Cinnamon worked the best out of what I had tried on this system. Not saying that this flavor will work for everyone but as for me its great. It even topped Linux Mint... which is normally what I have previously worked with. Keep up the great work Ubuntu Cinnamon team. Happy so far.
