Secure-K OS is a Debian-based distribution which runs from a live USB. The distribution is designed to provide secure communication and anonymous web browsing using applications such as the Tox messaging client and Tor Web Browser. Secure-K features the GNOME Shell desktop environment and is developed by the Mon-K organization.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Writing from a (registered) Secure-K OS here.
As a live system, I really appreciate the possibility to keep it up-to-date, with kernel files as well.

Good visuals, but as a Linux o.s. it`s very bad. You can make a persistence live flash drive with Kali, and it won`t fail you. After 10 minuts using de Secure-k OS it crashes on me, no matter what PC or flash drive i`m using, what seems like bad memory management. Also about it, it`s the most memory consuming Linux Dist i`ve seen. In a 4GB ram laptop it consumed more than 2GB of ram, surpassing the KDE graphical cost. One more thing: it`s not freeware at all. It gives you a lite version, that`s the one i tested, and as incredible as it may look, you have no right to use it as a superuser. This obviously means no dist-upgrade, no apt-get and all. If you want the full version (and use sudo in the terminal) you may pay 53 Euros for it, what in my country is 2 times the cost of a windows install. So overall score? 3 out of 10. Buggy, crashes on use, not a stable version at all, and limits your use.

I wanted to like this...I really did. But...
Since I did the Lite or free version.
I have no access to the root account...none. But they tell you that up front which doesn't make not having root access any better.
While it is suppose to be secure I couldn't figure out a way to spook my MAC address without first connecting to the wifi site. No, macchanger was not installed either. You figure it out.
Also I had to install noscripts, adblocker and https in the everyday firefox browser. If these folks were concerned about privacy one would think they would have done that.
I tried to use TOR. But it took me two attempts to completely update the TOR system but it did connect fine. I am using it now. It seems to work ok
Most everything is slowly completed. At times there is a generous lag time too.
Linux commands that I found are not present; ifconfig, iwconfig, aplay, hwinfo, hardinfo service, fdisk, tcp and inxi. There may be others so be advised.
The EULA's are classic Microsoft in how they read and how one has to agree to the term. I found two but there may be more. Those are odd considering this OS is classic Linux.
Lastly, the OS is slow, slow, slow.
Overall, I am not impressed. SecureK will have to go through improvements to be begin to gain traction in popularity. But this version is a good beginning. I am hoping it will continue and improve.
