All I get upon booting up the USB is "Booting 'find /menu.lst, /boot/grub/menu.lst, /grub/menu.lst'" and then GRUB4DOS ... and a grub> prompt. Trying to escape back and edit the first line doesn't work. If I try booting with UEFI enabled, I get a message about no EFI file found, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and I was misled into thinking that the ISO had both the Wayland and the Retro stuff, but there are two different ISOs. Neither work. Boo-hoo! I tried going to the Puppy Linux Forum for help and TRIED to register, but the li'l quiz at the bottom kept telling me I gave a wrong answer. Yes No Version: 22.12 Rating: 9 Date: 2025-12-24 Votes: 1 I'm using BoolwormPup32 Version 23.12 from 2023, installed on an HP Mini 110-1144 netbook from late 2009, that has 2GB RAM and a 250GB SSD (both upgrades from 1 GB and a 160 GB HDD). I installed Bookworm using the LICK installer downloaded on the original Windows 7 Starter OS, which was extremely easy. The only real hiccup was getting the WiFi internet to work, as Puppy didn't recognize the Broadcom wireless controller and I had to track down and supply the approproate driver. But once in place, the installation is making this limited Intel Atom N270 processor-equipped machine into a usable daily email-checker and light browsing device that otherwise would have found its way to the recyclers years ago. Pros: very fast even on this limited hardware netbook (which I'm using to type this); YouTube videos are watchable at 380p, has all the apps and features I need (Firefox ESR, Thunderbird are installed after updating the Puppy Package Manager); AbiWord is great for basic document word processing Cons: boot time is lengthy, going through the steps with the LICK installation and loading the OS, getting used to the "Puppy" way of navigating the features and apps wasn't that intuitive, but obviuosly doable Overall, this is a great Linux OS for "disadvantaged" hardware that still enables it to be useful for basic daily computing tasks. I study every day from Youtube, Khan Acamedemy, TED and Gseek. Even this laptop has damaged screen, partialy working keyboard, and broken speaker but I can hook up a second handed LG monitor and bluetooth keyboard. If you have a PC or laptop came with Windows XP or later, I surely recommand this. Don't pay to new PC unless that is your earning tool. Even it has Atom or Celeron, I bet it will show you a powerful performance. I can say this because my laptop is with i3 2350M but I don't user full performance of this. Integrated CPU scale software allows me to control the CPU throtlering as 800Mhz with slience. (it is 2.2GHz basically). Some apps can be installed with some clicks from Symantic Package Manager which is basic package manager. Some .deb package also works. Appimage also good to go. Most of Flatpak I tried was well. Classical apt installation works well so far. There was a small problem on inputing Korean language but it is good now. I found a way to install Korean fonts and input method.
