Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Seems like a nice O.S., but couldn't install the Grub: unable to install. Can't rate it very high if it won't complete installation.

for: Intermediate and Advanced users

The best way to install is to boot into Live, start gparted, create /, create a swap, apply, set the boot flag on /, then reboot and select "Install," GTK GUI, and when it comes to the partitioning portion, select "Manual," double click on the partition, change from "Do not use" to /, etc., select "Done Partitioning," select 'Done setting up the disk,' write the changes to the disk.

GRUB will then be written to the disk. (Which is where the LIve session Install fails.) Boot loader can be set to / or MBR. After the install finishes, reboot, and do the Updates. [Installation took an hour, updating took two hours.]

When doing updates you will want the Synaptic update window "Details" set so that you can respond to prompting. For KDE one can select LightDM or SDDM as part of the update process.

Uses sudo instead of su, so you cannot log into the root account fromthe KDE login screen; use terminal 'sudo su' command, instead. Dolphin cannot be run with root privs; use CLI to do admin tasks.

To set up the printer, open a terminal and isuue "systemctl enable cups.service" and "systemctl start cups.service" commands, then add and configure the printer through localhost:631.

In MATE one can install the Advanced MATE Menu, Brisk Menu, Main Menu or Menu Bar.

The highlight colour is hardwired, teal. But this version of KDE doesn't have the hardwired Breeze Dolphin icon on the desktop. KDE login screen can show more than one user avatar.

Only Firefox and Firefox ESR browsers are provided, but both have been sandboxed. A VPN can be setup.

LibreOffice is default. If you enable OpenGL in LibreOffice it may become unreadable, so Exit, rename the hidden LibreOffice user folder and restart LibreOffice.

Discovery can be installed to install snap apps. Init system is systemd.
