Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Like AntiX only done better--at least on all the laptops I have tested it out on. These machines are 5-7 years old, and only one would have been considered a top model in its time. This is so far the most stable and fastest of the various Linuxes that I have tried. They seemed to have thought through all the various issues that arise once you get beyond neophyte user of a Linux distro and solved them.

Pros: Does everything you like about Linux distros on home computers better.
Con: About the only thing I have encountered so far is installation routine takes a bit longer than many other versions.

I love this version of Linux.

Used MX Linux to replace Windows 10 (which replaced Windows 7) on my almost 9-year-old laptop. It runs incredibly nicely even when browsing maxes out my 1 core CPU. And it's incredibly secure with full disk encryption and you can install sdmem and automate it to secure RAM as well.
With the option to run from a Live CD, it's worth checking out.

Mx Linux is an excellent distro.

I have installed it on my Intel NUC desktop. I use 8gb ram, 128 gb M.2 ssd for my operating system and home files and one 120gb ssd for extra storage. It runs very well. 30sec bootup. Programs run fast and well out of the box. Mx Linux detected all of the connections including wifi. No problems with setup.

I was very impressed with Mx Linux so I put it on my Dell 13" laptop. It has 8gb ram, 240 gb ssd and again it ran well out of the box.

I like that it comes with its own built in Mx-18 Users Manual (about 180 pages!) It helped me to install things like the printer, use the live usb creator and how to work the Mx Updater. It made doing these procedures easy.

Additional programs are easy to add or with the Mx popular programs manager or the Synaptic package manager. These programs can easily be added or removed very quickly.

My conclusion... this Mx Linux 18 is the best distro I have seen thus far.
