Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

After almost one year of personal usage and many installations I am very impressed. No installation failures although hardware has been very diverse and included computers on which installation of some other popular distributions failed dismally. I have experienced no update failures, none have been reported by users, amazing.
MX has been and I hope will continue to be Linux the way I have always wished for. Easy installation, easy maintenance and semi rolling, above all I have none of the amazing system D irritations of slow shutdown and non compatibility with some applications I need.
MX is a rejuvenation cure for old computers but works well even on some very recent hardware. Maybe there are systems where installation might fail, I have not experienced that to date.
I DO always check my download and installation media as well as the hardware before installation which may explain the lack of issues. In the last months I sorted out 2 USB sticks 3 Hard drives and one main board.
Peripherals, I guess that means Printer, scanner, monitor, TV, smartphones, game controllers, webcams, VR headset for gamer, all seem to work just as well as under win 7 or 10.
Mounting smartphones does, in my experience mean setting up a dedicated mount point to get consistency, as it is possibly more secure, quick and easy to do no quibble with that.
The first distribution I have made a support payment to, For the fantastic usability and stability the MX Anti X team have delivered many many thanks, goes to all the devs involved including at upstream Debian.

Wishlist: One click open DNS setup for immediate improved privacy. Marriage with Devuan the second most respected distro on my list running a sane init. A couple of commenters suggested that, i agree with them.

After some problems with 18.1 and 18.2, they finally got 18.3 working. Unfortunately, they didn't get the upgrade process working and I lost all my files. Good thing I had most of them backed up. Hope this won't be a problem in the future as this is the best overall distro I've found so far. Does everything I need it to do.

I did fresh install and attempted to install nvidia graphics using mx linux tool. Installation went smooth with no errors. After the reboot my eyes saw shell screen so something went wrong. How is this even possible with official tool?
