Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I turned to MX Linux as an emergency live distro supporting a browser (Firefox) and media player with good codecs support (VLC); I am more familiar with Chrome these days as I left FF due to performance and faulty site rendition, otherwise MX would score even higher.

MX Linux impressed by hooking up with my wifi network with a simple effective desktop interface. XFCE is my standard desktop anyway, and Antix as its parent distro has always been a distro worthy of consideration , so MX is really just a continuation of a very sensible line of development that I see a good future for.

The old software did it for me. Very poor development platform if you need the latest thing. Nobody wants my work unless I am compiling the latest LibreOffice/ Openoffice. Frustrating.

I like the way it runs every Linux program that I have thrown at it. There is usually not any issues installing programs. I use Synaptic Package Manager to install and update programs. Also I really do like the looks and function of the desktop on MX Linux. I use KMyMoney to keep up with my finances and it looks fantastic and works great. The best thing of all is that I no longer have to reinstall the whole operating system to update to the latest like I had to with Ubuntu LTS. Most importantly MXLinux works great on my AMD Ryzen 5 desktop computer and has no problems on my Intel i5 laptop computer. I also like the way the Xfce terminal emulator window looks and operates.
