Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I think Mageia 7 is the best Mageia version ever and as for me also the best and easiest linux distribution.

Well, I've just tried 7.1 Plasma version. It's 2020, and it was like a trip to 2010. The looks was just a little bit better than a live version of GParted. Although dubbed as plasma desktop it was a plain grey, ugly and without proportions - small fonts on biiig blocks of square grey, with a strange oval huge shadow below windows. A first startup windows was quite interesting, a good introduction and then I clicked check updates and again - back to year 2010. Some awful windows coming up for a sec to show progress of download update lists, hiding for a sec, then another one.... annoying. Just compare it with Linux Mint Cinnamon - that is how a modern desktop should look like. A nice, clean gui showing overalll progress, and if user explicitly asks for it - one can see details.

Another one - firefox version 68. Oh, come on, its 72 on stable now! I guess Mageia works, but its so far behind other distributions, that is better to retire, there is just no point in developing sth that others have done like 3 years ago.

Nice distribution for every day usage. It feels like a Fedora LTS version. The only thing I have to complain about is that you can't remove some unneeded packages because of unnecessary dependencies. For example you can't remove orage without removing the whole xfce environment. There is no reason for those hard dependencies in my opinion.
