Mageia is a fork of Mandriva Linux formed in September 2010 by former employees and contributors to the popular French Linux distribution. Unlike Mandriva, which is a commercial entity, the Mageia project is a community project and a non-profit organisation whose goal is to develop a free Linux-based operating system.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

If you're looking for a distro with a dedicated friendly group of people, lovely forums and support then Mageia s the place to be.
The installation is easy, the welcome screen on first boot gives lots of great info and helps you install anything else you feel you might need.
I've added flatpaks so the system is top notch and full of the latest software that I like to use. It works great on gaming, either through steam, or sober for roblox which I like to play.
Overall it may be small, but Mageia is amazing and well worth using.

If you are lookng for a Linux distribution that will give you the least amount of issues at installation point, and, once installed, will give you a serious and dependable working environment (suggest KDE Plasma as your windowing environment), then Mageia is the distribution that consistently delivers. A Mageia Linux installation will give you an environment where you can get down to your work without having to worry about any installation issues. Mageia is ready for deliver a rock-solid installation.
PRO'S:
* MCC (Mageia Control Centre), Mageia's central configuration app, where most of the more important distribution functions can be "tweaked" in WYSIWYG format -- no need for console and cryptic commands (although this is still an option if you prefer working from console. This app lends itself well to any user who is not well-versed with working through console.
* A very helpful community that will help you through any hiccups you may encounter. Most interactions are rooted in patience and all levels of expertise are delivered and supported.
* A solid and vast maintained repository of apps, where, most are kept current.
* An historical mindset of business-class installations where the expectation is that the distribution is to maintain a solid uptime in performance.
* Once installed, there are very few "glitches" in performance, lending a Mageia installation dependable in a SOHO or even large office work environment.
* Although not meant to be an installation based on gameplay, has still a reasonable amount of gaming and performance qualities. Mageia is not meant to be a game-oriented distro.
* Apps are updated to their nearest dependable versions.
* App-maintainers or often open to updating if approached by a Mageia community member.
* Offers a list of many repositories on the planet.
* Core devs are quick to respond to any security or update issues.
* Core devs have a serious attitude with developing a rock-solid distribution
=====
CON'S:
* Has a small core group of membership financial supporters
* Has a very small group of corporate sponsors
* Lacks in marketing/publicity membership leads
* Core devs are in need of new dev recruits
* Due to small core devs, the Mageia distro release cycle can be unpredictable, although, the core devs remain committed to releasing only when a release if considered rock-solic and dependable. New releases may be delayed until they are considered rock-solid. Releases are not subject to a short release cycle where stability issues may occur.
* most of the con's are related to Mageia's presence on the Linux list of distribution and of consumer knowledge of availability of the Mageia Linux platform.

Mageia Linux is a gem for users who value stability, simplicity, and control. It had a smooth installation process, excellent hardware support (even bundling proprietary drivers when needed), and a centralized Mageia Control Center that makes system management a breeze.
Using gnome desktop version at the moment, and I've been having a blast with this lovely Linux system.
It's great recognising multiple monitors, and looks good too!
I'll just add that the community is so helpful and encouraging too!
