Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I have run Madbox as my daily driver for so long I can't remember - starting with version 12.04, which is still running my media PC and another PC. My laptop is 14.04, which, while taking a little getting used to, has been amazingly stable and good to my machine.

I'm not a noob by any stretch but I'm also not a computer professional, and there are challenges running this OS but you will also learn a lot.

Bottom line - its super lightweight and you have everything you need. OpenBox is a bit of a challenge but once you understand how to edit the menus you are golden!! Basically open menu.xml and use the conventions for the other menu items to create new ones with the apps you want handy.

This is a phenomenal OS if you want to learn some linux and breath some life into an older computer that can't handle the bloat of a bigger OS.

Using it for 3 years without any bugs or problems - absolutely great.

If you like a minimal distro which just works and are not afraid of using synaptic and configuring some things via files, you'll love it. Quite elegant, too, in its simple way.

Dreading April 2019 when support runs out ...

re the previous review:

I'm running it for 3 years now and haven't met any bugs yet -
maybe because it's an appealing *Openbox* distribution ... ;)

otherwise agree completely, a fantastic basic distro;
also hope there will be a follow-up.
