Linux Lite is a beginner-friendly Linux distribution based on Ubuntu's long-term support (LTS) release and featuring the Xfce desktop. Linux Lite primarily targets Windows users. It aims to provide a complete set of applications to assist users with their everyday computing needs, including a full office suite, media players and other essential daily software.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I have been using Linux Lite for a long time, and my impressions are incredibly positive. It’s clear that a massive amount of effort has been invested into this system, which I deeply appreciate.
Looking 'under the hood,' it's evident that the developers have paid great attention to detail, especially regarding dependencies and overall system architecture. As a user who prioritizes perfection and stability, I prefer using Systemback over Timeshift for my backups. On Linux Lite, Systemback works flawlessly, and I was particularly impressed to see that the common issues surrounding the casper service have been properly resolved.
I consider myself a demanding 'average' user who values a rock-solid foundation. The work done here is excellent, though there is always room for even more fine-tuning—and I look forward to seeing how the system evolves. Truly a job well done.
I have recently tried this distro in order to restore some laptops/PC with an old hardware and the overall result was quite successful: first of all, apart from the booting slowness, the installation was quite simple by using the Ubiquity system such as Ubuntu and the RAM consumption by idle was between 500 and 600 MB which is a good item, in my opinion, for being a XFCE DE distro!
Besides, the UI was smooth and elegant at the same time and the installed applications were really good. Another pro was the ease to use and the simplicity to install Flatpak and some basic applications (such as Firefox, Ubuntu-restricted-extras and much more) in a really simple way by using Lite Software along with some interesting Lite features (for example Lite Upgrade) which make Linux Lite a quite pretty OS to use!

2.8 GB why are they still calling it LITE ? This distro has literally doubled in size from 1.4 GB to 2,8 GB.
Linux LITE needs to offer a CORE version, that is the OS / Windows manager and little else.
All those other extras can be downloaded, if needed...
So as Linux LITE continues to balloon into 8GB of bloatware, they need to remember what the name on the box means: Light, lightweight, just what you need to load, in order to run 1 app or 1 program and access your files and internet. LITE : Not 4GB of download... Can run on 1GB of RAM with no problem. Enjoys running on a simple 2GB dual core CPU. And it will FLY on a 4 core with 4GB of ram or more...
LITE ?
Ok, please come out with a Fluxbox Light version of LITE that easily runs on 1 to 2 GB of RAM. Thank you.
