Linux Lite is a beginner-friendly Linux distribution based on Ubuntu's long-term support (LTS) release and featuring the Xfce desktop. Linux Lite primarily targets Windows users. It aims to provide a complete set of applications to assist users with their everyday computing needs, including a full office suite, media players and other essential daily software.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Enjoying the screen savers and grsync that other linuxOS are not leaving out. A good solid alternative to MINT/Neon. Lots of apps to choose from and you can install from KDE snap-craft store. So no worries with dependancies. Distro could pick up a free more testing tools like MATE has DHT hardware tester included in the build Linux Lite was by far the fastest of them all. But, there were a few major problems that has us decide on a major pass. On the laptops, not a single one, had working volume, brightness, etc. On all of the systems, (a mix of laptops, and desktops, a few newer miniforum cube pcs), not a single one could use a USB drive/thumb drive without jumping through hoops. Every other distro we tried just accomplished these things from the get-go the Older xfce 4.16, single-panel thunar, which is a pity, I'm already used to two-panel ones, which are much better to work with, but it's not a problem to manually update to version 4.18. Otherwise, I have no reservations about Linux Lite 6.6, it is still a clean and simple working system, with a fine-tuned xfce environment. The system recognized all my hardware, including the problematic scanner and printer. Great work again by the developer of the Linux Lite project. Thanks for the excellent work.

This review is for Version 6.4
I started with version 5.8 of Linux Lite. I'm now at version 6.4 and I see no reason to install version 6.6 because it contains features that aren't needed/wanted by everyone, those features could be added by anyone if they had the need or desire to do so. I have version 6.4 installed on several desktop machines, some with AMD CPUs and some with Intel CPUs, as well as having different GPUs from various manufacturers. Installation always went smoothly, and all of my hardware is functional. I chose Linux Lite because it allows you to install the root file system as ZFS. Most of the default software applications are the ones that I would choose to install, the lone exception being the awful (in my opinion) Google Chrome web browser, which respects the users privacy the least (again, my opinion). Many of us use Linux because of privacy and security concerns, the inclusion of the least private browser as the default install seems counter-productive. Why not stick with Firefox? I uninstalled Google Chrome and installed the Brave browser and I couldn't be happier. VLC Media Player and Libre Office are the best choices for their respective uses. The custom Linux Lite tools and accessories make for easy tweaking and maintenance of the system. A few tweeks of the XFCE desktop, and now I have it customized to my liking.
I would like to see more installation options for the ZFS filesystem, choices for multiple-disk storage pools, for instance. Also, more graphical tools for adding and/or managing ZFS pools. ZFS is the future of file systems/volume managers, and it has many benefits for preventing data loss, even for home computer users.
We don't need software bloat or feature creep, we need a good, solid system to perform the basics, we will add our own preferred software to customize our individual machines.
Thanks to all of the developers who have made Linux Lite a great distro, I'm looking forward to future releases that improve the basic functioning of the system.
