Lingmo OS is a Debian-based Linux distribution featuring a custom-built LingmoUI desktop environment. The project's main goal is to provide users with a unified and practical desktop, software that is compatible with the desktop environment, and a smooth experience, even on low-performance hardware.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Lingmo is beautiful to look at but it doesn't work properly. There's no documentation and the install guide is hopeless.
Despite being built on Debian 13 it doesn't work as well as Debian 13 does. On my Lenovo IdeaPad it couldn't see the wifi even though Debian 13 sees it without problem. The comes with Music player was OK until I told it to close, whereupon it crashed the whole OS> Many software titles that I added via the Package Manager didn't work after install.
And, greatest sin of all - it asks to reboot in order to apply Updates, which it applied, without progress bar or percentage, and then crashed to a black screen. After rebooting and rerunning the Update Manager I got an "Error. Cannot find Update details" and not, "your system is up to date" (it shows the same message when it looks for Updates and there's no net connection available.) This is not useful as it leaves the User wondering whether updates did apply or just mangled the whole file manifest.
I've been using Linux for over 20 years. Beautiful Linux desktops are a rarity. The Chinese seem to have a better idea about this than their Western counterparts do.
There's some promise here, for the future. But some backend attention is required.
i have been using it ever since it was called cutefish ! , its the best distro for me even when it was beta it was still stable ! i use it daily to do my tasks brows the web play games or work it is so perfect !
i'd wanna have emojis if possible or pre installed wine maybe as an option before download but in general i love this distro so much , thanks to the lingmo team , my best wishes for yall ! good luck .
I used VMware Workstation for this review.
The live ISO booted up fine and the installer started up by itself. At first look it looks like a MacOS-like distro, so this might be good for people coming from Mac.
The system installed relatively quickly. After the install, it rebooted into the LingmoUI desktop. I liked the design of it; it was smooth and fluent, and was kind of like GNOME. The system settings were simple.
One thing I did not really like was the lack of animations, but these could be fixed in later releases
Other than that, it was pretty much a normal Debian 12 install with the usual stuff. There were some preinstalled apps like ONLYOFFICE and some other random config apps. There was also a system update app for people who weren't comfortable with the terminal, and a package installer app too.
This distro does have potential, especially since this is only a beta release. I hope it does improve over time and doesn't get abandoned like CutefishOS did.
