GrapheneOS is arguably the best mobile operating system out there if security is your main concern. If your selling point is convenience (like a bunch of AI features), GrapheneOS isn't for you. But if you want a debloated OS that doesn't send data to Google and limits app tracking—without compromising on security—then definitely give it a try.
GrapheneOS fits my use case. It's surprisingly smooth and stable for its security level. By default, the OS sets the bar high, and it can be further hardened with just a few taps in Settings. Moreover, it benefits from nearly all native Android features—like Desktop Mode to turn the phone into a mini PC, support for custom app stores like F-Droid, and full Google Play support (opt-in only)—without all the Google tracking. And the OS gets better as more AOSP and GrapheneOS-specific features are added.
Unlike some other operating systems, GrapheneOS intentionally avoids "security theater", meaning it only ships features proven to actually protect your privacy and security. Nothing gets into the stable release without extensive testing, and bugs are typically patched within days.
Some of my favorite features include:
- Hardened sandboxing (can enforce memory tagging, disallow network and sensors access, remove ALL permissions from Google Play Services or uninstall them altogether, etc.)
- Physical data theft protection (device password stored in secure physical chip, new USB connections blocked while screen is locked, auto-reboot feature to wipe RAM if not unlocked for a given period, etc.)
- Improved password security (ability to use biometrics + 2nd factor PIN, optional duress password to wipe all data, longer maximum length, hardware protection against brute force attacks, etc.)
- Wireless network privacy measures (randomize MAC address per Wi-Fi connection, disable 2G and 3G networks except for emergency calls, auto-disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if not used for a given period, avoid stealthy Type 0 SMS messages, etc.)
- Very stable and usable!
Note: Some say GrapheneOS is for criminals. While many criminals install GrapheneOS, most users have better motives. The OS is designed for anyone fed up with Google tracking, concerned about abusive governments, likely to face targeted attacks (business owners, politicians, etc.), or just wanting to avoid forced AI features. GrapheneOS helps with all that and more!

Way better than I expected. Great security system. Installation is very simple. Really works great compared to other distros I tried in the past and almost none offer the same stability and almost oem experience, the gms sandbox also works great not even mentioning the network permission being accessible and able to toggle it on or off and one addition to be mentioned is the USB functionality being limited to power or none. This is a great OS - One of the best projects for anyone valuate their own privacy and security.
