Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I saw this name somewhere three years ago which caught my interest. So I picked up the "Daedalus" ISO with XFCE desktop, is only a bit over 900MiB. It came with GIMP, Inkscape and a couple of other programs, not sure about media player. Sadly yellow-cable Internet was the only sure way to get any online access. I did install it but to my dismay it upgraded to the desktop v4.18 which I didn't expect and I disliked. It significantly changed the look of the desktop that I wanted for another system. I still have this ISO and could use it, and even use the Wine v8 AppImage, but cannot go online because I don't have unlimited Internet any longer.

I also have the "Daedalus" ISO with Openbox, released around Aug.2023. It's a bit funky, comes with SpaceFM which I wasn't used to.

Finally, and also in 2023 I went with "Chimaera" base with KDE Plasma v5.21. Sadly I had many problems with this. Freshly installed, it kept going into the loop trying to find "non-free firmware". I booted in a different way I think but I got no sound in the system. Then when I shut it down it went into that loop again... forced me to rip it away for Devuan with the same thing, but gave up on that as well because some dependencies were missing for something I needed to install.

I don't care about "systemd", I just wanted to keep this one instead of preferring Spirallinux or some other based on Debian.
