Installing on two X1 Carbon laptops was quite simple and pain free (unlike the many, many, many command line operations needed to create a GUI version of the parent OS). GhostBSD is a complete system including an array of available programs versus Linux which is a kernel with all the other items tacked on. This means GhostBSD (FreeBSD) can offer a greater reliability than even the most-rock-solid-Linux Debian, though the difference in uptime measured in decades versus years is academic - nothing else comes close. For stability GhostBSD (FreeBSD) is unmatched. Besides stability, having the applications you run is the most important factor. Applications are more widely available with Linux than BSD, but if BSD has what you want the BSD complete OS approach will be the most reliable. It is also possible to run Linux programs on BSD, but then why not run Linux? I have found using the OS the program is designed upon to be the most reliable solution (I have a number of systems running a number of different OS-specific programs). If BSD runs what you want, try it. GhostBSD isn't the cutting edge OS like Arch, but for those doing work on a computer getting the work done is what matters the most. Yes No Version: 26.1 Rating: 10 Date: 2026-04-21 Country: Switzerland Votes: 5 I'm coming again and again back to GhostBSD...And so I did it this time again. Why? It’s just a healthy curiosity. It’s not Linux, it’s FreeBDD under the hood, and the desktop environment is already configured and so on. Further, I was curious to explore this new release based on the new FreeBSD 15.x branch and Xlibre. My verdict: easy and quick install of the MATE (default) release. Everything works fine (snappy desktop, wifi and suspend fonction). Compared to the previous releases, the audio drivers seem to be the right ones. I think this OS deserves more attention and recognition from the entire FOSS community. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 25.02 Rating: 10 Date: 2025-09-12 Votes: 39 I keep coming back to GhostBSD, largely because of the possibilities. It appears that those possibilities have been advanced and come to fruition with this latest release. I'm testing GhostBSD 25.02 on an Acer Aspire A-617-52 with Intel CPU and integrated GPU. My Broadcom wireless now works out of the box, as does my Tigerlake audio and Pulse Audio. All hardware, including my Epson ET-2650 printer/scanner/copier works as they should. I tested the live DVD first and set up wireless and other parameters on the desktop and they were remembered when I installed the OS to NVME SSD, looking great and ready to go. I used to test GhostBSD on a partition on this machine, alongside Windows 10 (and then 11) and a few Linux distros. This time I took the plunge and gave GhostBSD the whole disc; this laptop is now a BSD laptop and I'll be using it for everything. 10 rating is earned! Was this review helpful?
