Version: -- 41383432295.245.18 Rating:    -- 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 out of 10 Your review (minimum 250 words): Past reviews - sort by: DateVotes Version: 38 Rating: 10 Date: 2025-04-07 Votes: 3 now batocera is up to v41. here rere some tips for newbies ( which I was or I am yet ): 1. scsi hdd is not supported. useful for vm fans. 2. actually emulation station and retroarch are splited, many of settings (i.e. turbo in NES) only can be set in emulating ( game playing ), but not in list interface. 3. not friendly for Japanese-style joystick (O=enter, X=cancel) users. you can swap OX buttons in frontend settings, but Enter and Esc key in keyboard also been swapped. 4. I recomend to dump it into internal storage of a thin pc, while booting from usb-stick as Finnix. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 38 Rating: 10 Date: 2025-01-31 Votes: 1 This is a very user-friendly distro for gaming. It makes use of proven emulators and is very easy to navigate. It has a good suite of tools to customize your experience and broad system support for retro games. The online manual is useful, and was able to help me troubleshoot the few hiccups I had. Highly recommended. I have tried my hand at Linux-based operating systems many times, hoping to get one that I can use easily with out of the box functionality. For general computing I never found one. I was amazed when I tried this on a whim; it does everything it claims to do and worked flawlessly once I got it set up. Setting it up the way I wanted took me all of an hour. I'm not counting the content scraper, because that doesn't have anything to do with function. The scraper works great but takes more time. I’ve been playing on an Atari and working on the command line since i was 8, got an NES at 12, and dumped back on the command line when I hit college in 1991 on a DECstation and then Redhat (and SNES :) shortly after - absolutely love UN*X and Linux. to be able to organize and manipulate my library and extend the system so easily is amazing. everything just works and it’s incredibly stable as you would expect Linux to bring. (I’ve used the same emulators on Android, iPadOS, macOS, Ubuntu and absolutely nothing compares and it’s easier to maintain! props up to the devs for keeping admins in mind!) There is so much to evaluate - you can change skins via Emulation Station, I’ve contributed on GitHub, I just got all my titles and saves being served over the network working - amazing considering I was already happy with the size of a 128GB micro SD card - now it only has to be 16GB - crazy! I have my server backed up hourly for peace of mind and I haven’t even dived into syncthing yet. As I have an Emby server, I’m really excited to dive back into Kodi and access the same network shares and see what might be possible with this full blown Entertainment distro! With Retroachievements, I can play all the games I’ve mastered in whole new ways and fetch the trophies they deserve! Having emulators run on a barebone Linux distro has everything running without all the overhead of other OSes.
