Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This review is of Backslash Linux Kristoff, the 4th iteration of this OS from India. I have been using Backslash since Elsa/Anna were released. The developers have come a long way since then. The polish to the OS is very good, with a very usable interface based on KDE Plasma 5.11.2, KDE Frameworks 5.39.0 and QT 5.9.1. It runs on Linux kernel 4.13.0-21 generic. In essence the core elements of this OS are up to date and cutting edge technologies. Being based on KDE means that customization is limited only by your imagination, but the interface looks so nice out of the box you may not want to change it. The OS comes with Backslashes own customized menu that is very clean and simple. Slingscold (a full screen menu) is also accessible from the Latte Dock for those who like a more MacOS feel. New software can be downloaded through KDE's Discover application. While is is a good looking program it is still a bit immature. It can still be a bit buggy at times. I wish they had included Synaptic as an alternative. I was able to download Synaptic from Discover without issues. Backslash has also dropped WPS office suite in this version and replaced it with Apache Open Office suite. I do not know why the developers chose to do this, I was able to download WPS and install without any issues.Overall the Developers have done a good job of continuing to refine this OS. While it has only been available for a few days (12/25/17) it is running smoothly on my Acer Aspire V laptop (AMD dual core with 6 gb ram). This OS is a good choice for people looking for a stable "everyday driver" that is not only beautiful but functional, Thanks for reading; Jeffry (self-proclaimed Linux aficionado)

This is something really cool and awesome. I have been using this for some weeks now and for the most part I can say that BackSlash Linux is very stable and also very beautiful. I like the interface and love what system is provided by BackSlash Shell. The app selection is also very nice and for the most part I don't need any extra app for general day to day usage. There are some minor glitches, but it is just a beta software so that is perfectly fine for me and I am pretty sure that those will be fixed soon. Really a good distro.

This flavour of Linux is very under publicised and more should be telegraphed to people how good and professional it is. The entire system seems very stable, useful and beautiful in its layout. I think that many people are past using only the popup style "start menu" systems as found on Window$ and this system allows you to fully approach your own way. I use Cairo-Dock for example which complements Backslash and I find it more flexible. A great spread of apps on installation. Very easy for the beginner to maintain and be productive. A few minor glitches with the update system but this Kristoff version is beta software! The connection to Ubuntu repositories and all those favourites is simply marvellous. If you are used to dealing with Linux then this one can get you going from installation and soon have a machine running with all of your own personal gems. I have been using it now over 5 weeks, well since August. Really impressed and its well worth a try if you are a beginner or experienced. Well done guys.
