Android-x86 is an unofficial initiative to port Google's Android mobile operating system to run on devices powered by Intel and AMD x86 processors, rather than RISC-based ARM chips. The project began as a series of patches to the Android source code to enable Android to run on various netbooks and ultra-mobile PCs, particularly the ASUS Eee PC.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Esquema de cores:green text = latest stable version, red text = versão de desenvolvimento ou beta. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I installed 8.1-r1 (I can't choose it from the drop-down menu) onto my system alongside Xenialpup64, it took a few tries due to my lack of knowledge with grub and the like, but I managed in the end.
At first boot, Android-x86 wouldn't give me a list of wifis nearby. After some searching, I happened on the suggestion to reboot it in debug mode. Did that, rebooted after that was done, and wifi works great now.
Some things from the Google play store don't seem to work. I managed to get video playback to work by installing NewPipe, getting it to play videos on VLC with no optimisation (?). A few apps crashed.
All that aside, as a concept, I am in love with Android-x86. If only it was perfect.
I have tried installing x86_64 several times, but I never managed to boot the live cd.
While the 32bit version is always problematic on the Google Play store it often always crashes.
For the latest version 8.1r1, now the 32bit system after a few minutes always restarts itself.
Android is popular on both mobile phones and tablets, but it is hard to install on a typical PC because the Android operating mode is using a touch screen, whereas most PCs are typically used with a mouse, Not recommended for general computer usage does not install on most computers.
