The Cachy-OS Calamares installation menu is the most professional I have seen to-date! It was a delight to use and it monitored your progress throughout. Thank you Cachy-OS for going that extra mile, its that what makes such a difference and gives us such pleasure. I chose KDE Plama and Ext4 journaling system. Then I installed Abi-Word via Cachy-Os package installer which was blazing fast, I thought my laptop had taken steroids!? Damn! It was the fastest download and installation of Abi-Word I have ever encountered. I literally blinked 5 times and it was in my menu. Still rattled!!!! I am using a HP-G250-i3-2.00Ghz-8Mb-2017 model. Cachy-OS really kicks butt! No wonder the many praises it is receiving. Don't believe this 71yr old, go try it out boys and girls? The offerings are truly amazing on how you can manipulate your system. I can only congratulate the highly professional team, working tirelessly behind the scenes that contributed to engineering Cachy-OS! These men are no-fly-by-night individuals. As I have said, THEY ARE TRULY PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMERS WHICH IS CLEARLY EVIDENT IN THEIR SOFTWARE. I have gotten myself hooked and can only blame Cachy-OS Linux for spoiling me rotten. Thank You! Yes No Version: 260628 Rating: 7 Date: 2026-07-16 Country: Italy Votes: 0 I'll be honest: I just can't fully grasp this immense popularity and all the hype surrounding this distro. It's undeniable that the kernel work is excellent: the optimizations are noticeable and, on paper, promise a highly responsive and performant experience. However, the day-to-day user experience has really tested my patience. The biggest issue? Package management. I found myself having to resort to the shell just to install a simple Flatpak, and after more than 30 minutes, it was still downloading. It was an unacceptably slow and frustrating experience, completely shattering the illusion of an "out-of-the-box" ready system. I do want to point out that I'm fully aware every user's experience is subjective and can depend on a myriad of factors (hardware, internet connection, temporary mirror issues). For this reason, I'm definitely not closing the door on this distro: giving it another shot in the future, maybe with a different setup or after a major update, is certainly not out of the question. However, my experience has led me to a broader reflection on the state of Arch-based derivatives in 2026. We're in an era where the user base has evolved, and expectations have shifted accordingly. Any Arch-based distribution should now guarantee, out of the box, not just a flawless graphical installer, but above all, a functional, snappy, and well-integrated graphical Software Manager. When you look at projects like CachyOS, which truly sets the gold standard in terms of usability and bundled tools, you expect other distros to step up and meet those same standards. The idea that "using Arch means you have to spend hours in the terminal" should be a relic of the past by 2026. In short: the technical potential and optimizations are definitely there, but basic usability and software management need a serious quality leap to justify all this hype. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 260628 Rating: 9 Date: 2026-07-07 Country: Canada Votes: 1 For me on a laptop CachyOS performance gains are extremely notable due to the power savings. On Ubuntu when I would do nothing but play a video id be using 13W after installing and configuring performance modules however on cachyos out of the box doing the same thing id only be using 8W which is a massive difference for battery life on a laptop and actually allows me to use Linux instead of windows for days where I need to leave home. Not the mention how great KDE plasma has been. Feels just like a better version of windows honestly people recommend mint because it just works and looks like windows but in my experience cachy has just givin a better experience with better performance, Issues: Ive only had one issue that took more than 5 mins to figure out and its regarding the brightness of my oled screen. On the lastest kernel the brightness just doesn't change. Like you can change its percent but the screen doesn't change and stays maxed out. I found 2 solutions. Changing to hdr mode and just sticking with it or switching to the LTS kernel which just works as well. However its a little annoying that it doesn't work Ive had many more problems on other distros and the performance and battery life gains are well worth it. Was this review helpful?
