4MLinux is a miniature, 32-bit Linux distribution focusing on four capabilities: maintenance (as a system rescue live CD), multimedia (for playing video DVDs and other multimedia files), miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and mystery (providing several small Linux games). The distribution includes support for booting on UEFI-enabled machines.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.
Incredibly fast. Lots of software available immediately after installation. Very good support for many audio and video formats.

My favorite tool. Su or sudo just does not always allow the freedom to customize, clean-up, edit and tweak the file systems of operating systems. 4MLinux lets you do as you please with your computer. Remember that the operating systems in linux (unlike Windows) do not own the computer it is installed on.

I have been using 4MLinux for a couple years now and it provides everything I need.
Downloading, iso to usb and installing is easy and fast, even if you add the time it takes to install Firefox, Skype, Printdrivers, (addon) it still takes less time then installing Lubuntu for instance.
I recently bought a refurbished HP6730b laptop, and 4mlinux runs beautifully.
This is also a great distro if you want to challenge yourself in learning more about Linux.
However, getting started with 4M is easy peasy, so don't let this learning curve scare you.
There is no package installer, it has its own way of doing things, addons and the script.
It is probably, I repeat, probably, the safest OS, next to Puppy Linux, however, the Firewall is off
by default. Should be on, perhaps.
I love the absence of the unnecessary inlog screen.
Firefos runs fast!
What more is there to add?
Just give it a try, support is great with a personal touch, just drop a line on
