Regata OS is a Brazilian Linux distribution based on openSUSE, focusing on desktop and gaming needs. Its main characteristics include a Regata OS store for installing applications and games, out-of-the-box integration with Google Drive, support for a gaming mode via the Vulkan graphics API, an extensive library of games in the Regata OS Game Access portal, support for configuration of hybrid graphics in notebooks, and easy transfer of files between a computer and a smartphone. The distribution's user interface is KDE Plasma.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.
I'm Brazilian and I've used and tested several distros, both based on Debian and Arch, but this one made on Opensuse is wonderful. Fast, light, stable and error-free. Congratulations to the Brazilian developers.
And the most impressive thing is that I installed it on a Dell 2009, 4gb ram and Core 2 Duo. Incredible performance and it doesn't heat up the processor, as long as you use programs like cpupower or cpufreq. Soon I will install it on a more powerful computer.
Users from other countries, I recommend that you try this Distro, as you won't regret it.
First install I was impressed with the look and feel on older hardware. Then I realized things weren't working. NetworkManager was installed but wasn't operational, and Regata OS Update would download but never actually install updates. Every reboot I'd be greeted with the exact same updates after the system claimed to have done them all previously. I've had constant chronic issues with anything SuSe based previously, though I wanted to try this, I am somewhat not surprised it failed to function.
I would say this is nothing more than a live distro. The web browser functions but anything above that probably wouldn't.
This is about as good as OpenSuse gets. I tested Regata in live mode and all went well. I followed that with an install, and it went seamlessly, and could not have gone better. Getting Regata ready for everyday use, I felt very comfortable. Like this was a Linux distro from years gone by, but very up to date and modern. I believe Linux Mint is the standard that all other distros must be judged by, and Regata is very close to that. I had no second thoughts about making Regata one of my main operating systems.
