Last Update: 2018-12-08 12:29 UTC

Antergos is a modern, elegant and powerful operating system based on Arch Linux. It started life under the name of Cinnarch, combining the Cinnamon desktop with the Arch Linux distribution, but the project has moved on from its original goals and now offers a choice of several desktops, including GNOME 3 (default), Cinnamon, Razor-qt and Xfce. Antergos also provides its own graphical installation program.

Table Notes and Explanations
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I recently installed antergos live with xfce for a Samsung laptop with I5, 4GB frame. I installed 4 times and every time without a problem.
The most important thing:
set the network and then quickly switch the installation functions (if you think too long, it can go back to the starting point of the installation).
After installing "pacman -Syyu" and everything works smoothly and without failure, quickly, really works without any problems. I recommend it more than Manjaro.

Antergos is worth a try; it is an excellent distro. It was my first experience with GNOME3. I like that it is fairly minimal for a "user-friendly" distro. As many other comments noted, often times these distros become bloated with unnecessary software. For my purposes, I use a browser (my love affair with Vivaldi started on Antergos), LibreOffice, and a mail client. My reason for an eight is because the rolling release seemed to get in its own way over time. Granted, that could be a user error situation as my experience tends to favor fixed release distros. Regardless, check it out.

Fast and runs like a champ on my cheap Dell laptop! I had to go into Bios and set it to Legacy, but once I figured that out, it was flawless. I'm using Cinnamon and it is beautiful!! I began using Antergos back in 2016 and since then I've used Mint, Manjaro, Ubuntu and tried several other distros.
