Paul Seelig has announced the release of Window Maker Live 0.96.0-0, an updated build of the project's Debian-based distribution featuring the Window Maker window manager as the default graphical user interface: "This release is based on stable Debian 12.2 'Bookworm' and contains Linux kernel version 6.4.4 as provided via Debian's backports. Window Maker has been updated to current release version 0.96.0 and includes an additional bug fix. It is Window Maker Live's primary window manager and exclusive desktop session option. Almost the complete range of GNUstep components and programs currently available in Debian 'Bookworm' have been added. The Window Maker root menu has been augmented with a comprehensively arranged listing of related programs in its own top level 'GNUstep Apps' submenu. The primary aim is to raise awareness of the advanced maturity of GNUstep in order to attract more developers for this wonderful project. Current Emacs release 29.1 has been compiled for both GTK+ 2 and GNUstep. The emacs-gnustep variant is provided as a self-contained component and does not rely nor conflict with any other Debian Emacs packages." See the what's new file and the changelog for further details. Download (MD5, pkglist): wmlive-bookworm-0.96.0-0_amd64.iso (2,634MB), wmlive-bookworm-0.96.0-0_i386.iso (2,616MB). |

Window Maker Live is a Debian-based Linux distribution that applies the Window Maker window manager as the default graphical user interface. The project's latest release is based on Debian 12.1 "Bookworm". "This release is based on stable Debian 12.1 'Bookworm'. The current Window Maker 0.95.9 is used as default window manager and exclusive desktop session option. The additional Xfce desktop session option was removed. Selected components and utilities of Xfce, MATE and LXQt were seamlessly integrated with Window Maker. A fail-safe mode session option was added for troubleshooting needs. The GTK widget libraries have been recompiled with the gtk3-classic patches. The login manager is now LightDM instead of the former wmlive-gdm. The default web browsers are Pale Moon and Surf. As mail messaging client, Claws-Mail has been chosen. Most wmlive-specific scripts have been localized using machine translation for about 17 of the most common European languages used worldwide. The default init system is now systemd instead of SysVInit. As it turned out, systemd has become the de-facto standard init system over time and trying to circumvent and replace it with SysVInit while maintaining the same levels of functionality has become increasingly difficult and laborious." The release notes also affirm the distribution has moved from SysV init to systemd. Download (MD5): wmlive-bookworm-0.95.9-0_amd64.iso (2,297MB, pkglist). |

Window Maker Live is a Debian-based Linux distribution that integrates the Window Maker window manager with well-known open-source components in an attractive graphical user interface. A new version was released and announced earlier today: "Window Maker Live 2013-06-05. What is new since the last release? Both Firefox and Thunderbird are not pre-installed any more into the static Squashfs of the live system. Instead, the upstream archives are now shipped separately on the ISO image within the top level 'custom' folder. These archives are then automatically unpacked at runtime of the live session or during installation to disk. This not only enables users to easily replace the contained English-language Mozilla applications with different language versions, but also allows for updating these release versions with newer ones."
