Rescuezilla
Rescuezilla is a specialist Ubuntu-based distribution designed for system rescue tasks, including backups and system restoration. It was forked from the "Redo Backup & Rescue" project which was abandoned in 2012. Like its predecessor, it allows a "bare-metal restore" after any hardware failure directly from the live image. Some of the features include: works directly from the live CD/USB image; works with Linux, macOS and Windows; automatically searches a local area network for drives to backup to or restore from; recovers lost or deleted data files; includes configuration tools for managing disk and drives. Rescuezilla uses a simplified LXDE user interface.

A new development build of Ufficio Zero, an Italian desktop-oriented distribution based on Ubuntu, has been released. The most important new feature of version 0.8 is the ability to install it to a hard disk directly from the live CD, thanks to the new graphical installer from Ubuntu 6.06.1. A major innovation present in this release is the distribution's integration with ufficioSamente.it, an Italian web community which enables easy publishing of web logs and sharing of photos and videos on the Internet. Ufficio Zero 0.8 is considered a "technology preview" and not yet ready for production machines; however those who wish to test the product and provide suggestions for improvements are welcome to try it. Please visit the project's home page (in Italian) to read the full release announcement. Download: ufficiozero-0.8.iso (654MB, MD5).

Hot on the heals of the recently released version 0.6, the developers of Italy's Ufficio Zero, based on Ubuntu Linux, have announced another new release: "Ufficio Zero 0.7 has been released. This release features a big step forward with the new version of 'automatico', an automatic software installer based on gnome-app-install. A simple guide through all daily tasks has been included in the distribution so users can find information right on their desktop." Like the previous version, Ufficio Zero 0.7 is a live CD only, without a hard disk installation option. Read the full release announcement (in Italian) for further information.
