Although OEone HomeBase Desktop is not a Linux distribution in the traditional sense of the word, but rather a desktop environment running on top of Red Hat or Mandrake, nevertheless, the creators have been providing a complete distribution in the form of OEone HomeBase Suite. LinuxOrbit has put the freely downloadable HomeBase Desktop through its paces in this review: "HomeBase DESKTOP a truly unique desktop experience. It will be interesting to keep up with the HomeBase DESKTOP product as it continues to mature. Whether or not the market wants to use PCs differently remains to be seen, but OEone will be at the forefront of the effort in the future." The product gets 3.5 stars out of 5.

OEone has announced the release of HomeBase Desktop as a free download for users of Red Hat Linux. What is HomeBase Desktop? "A fully-integrated Operating Environment that offers all of the facilities traditional OSs offer. The difference? A UI that is user-centric rather than window-centric." More on OEone's product page. It runs on top of Red Hat 7.1 or 7.2 only so if you use one of these versions and would like to give HomeBase a try, head for the download page (your email is required). The release spurred some activity in Linux media. Newsforge - OEone's Linux desktop experiment enters a new phase: "OEone is a fully functional Linux desktop right now, but it is so different from other PC desktops that it hardly competes with any of the existing ones." OfB - OEone's Peter Bojanic on HomeBase, Mozilla, an interview with OEone's Vice President: "OEone started active development using Mozilla milestone releases in February, 2001." Also from OfB - It's Good to be Home(Base) Again, a mini review: "If you are looking for an excellent desktop solution for basic office and multimedia functionality, this Linux distribution very well could be the perfect one for you."

OEone HomeBase 1.4 release announcement: "New features: you can clear the search field, found in various applications, with a simple click of the mouse; Palm Sync can install third party software to a Palm; hard disk usage is shown on the settings page. Feature enhancements: printing from Linux applications (Gnumeric, Open Office, Gimp) is now possible; PDFs can now be printed; Instant Chat is easier to use; Palm Sync now supports USB to serial converters and both serial ports." 3CX Phone System is a specialist, Debian-based Linux distribution designed to run a complete unified communications platform. The 3CX client, included in the distribution, can also be installed separately on most hardware as well as the cloud. It provides a complete open standards-based IP PBX and phone system that works with popular SIP trunks and IP phones. It will automatically configure all supported peripherals and it also comes with clients for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. The ISO image includes a free license for the 3CX PBX edition.
