Olive
Olive was minimalistic Linux live CD based on Debian GNU/Linux. It offers a number of rarely-seen features, such as a unique boot process using a combination of BusyBox and GHLI, a modular script interpreter, a custom package management tool called UniPKG, a read-write live CD infrastructure with Unionfs and Squashfs, and the Enlightenment window manager. The purpose of the project was to demonstrate ease-of-use of Linux and to showcase interesting new technologies.

The first development build of DesktopBSD 1.7, an operating system based on the recently released FreeBSD 7.0, is out and ready for testing: "DesktopBSD 1.7 snapshot. First, remember it's an early snapshot, so there will be certainly some problems! But apart from that it's DesktopBSD based on FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE. I did a first test, there are some minor quirks with the mounting tool and the scheduler is SCHED_4BSD, so it has got a performance drop, especially on uniprocessor systems. The first preview version will follow soon with SCHED_ULE activated and some other useful add-ons. So if you're eager to test, you're welcome, but remember it's an early test! You can download the snapshot at the usual servers and we have pre-built packages for FreeBSD 7 on the server." Here is the brief release announcement.
