The Besgnulinux development team has announced the release of Besgnulinux 4-0, the latest update of the project's Debian-based Linux distribution featuring the lightweight JWM window manager: "This version is a major release developed as a result of meticulous work carried out since version 3-0. Particular emphasis was placed on stability and lightness. It has been purged of leaking, conflicting or background processes. Healthy, functioning tools have been replaced with alternatives. Some software has been removed while others have been added. It was created with an 'install and use' approach, requiring minimal customization beyond user preferences. To this end, all software necessary for basic needs has been adapted to the system. Both GUI and CLI software have been added for the touchpad. Pavucontrol has been removed and replaced with Pasystray, which performs the same function. A separate process has been implemented for panel icons. Panel icon colors can be changed using the 'Panel Manager' tool. Icons can be added to the panel, menu and desktop. This version includes four different icon sets. Different-looking folders can be changed using the icon color change tool." Continue to the release announcement for more details and screenshots. Besgnulinux, a Debian-based Linux distribution with the lightweight JWM window manager as the preferred desktop user interface, has been updated to version 3-2. The new release is available in three separate editions - "Full", "Simple" and "Core". While the first two come with a full graphical environment (the "Simple" edition lacks some applications), the "Core" variant is command-line only. "A lot of work has been done and important changes have been implemented in this version. First, let's talk briefly about the procedures performed. As in the previous version, the classic and modern menu were adapted together. You can switch between these menus or use them jointly with the 'Add to Menu' tool. Added some important elements to the welcome screen. The 'Add Key' tool has been restructured. Added conversion from PNG to SVG format to the 'Image Editor' tool. The 'Change Keyboard Language' tool has been rearranged. A total of 21 colors, dark and light, were added to the 'Change Theme Color' tool. The 'Window Control' tool has been reworked. The 'Panel Control' and 'Third-Party Software' tool has been adapted again. Some adjustments have been made to ensure stable operation of the system." An updated build of Besgnulinux, a lightweight Debian-based distribution featuring the JWM window manager, has been released. The 3-1 version comes with a new and modern desktop menu, and a smaller set of software packages in its default state: "In this version, the base design was kept as it was, but many changes were made. Some regularly-added software has been removed from the system upon request. The ISO image file has been reduced to around 2,500 megabytes. LibreOffice, Inkscape, Games, Printer are some of the software that will not install. The installation of these software is left to the user's discretion. The ability to add items to the menu has been adapted. Users can add or remove items from the menu. A relatively modern menu has been added to the JWM menu. An image of this menu, called App Finder, can be seen below. A second menu is not required, it's simply for user preference. Another significant change is the change to the default file manager. The latest version of the PCManFM file manager, which we've been using for years, is riddled with bugs. Therefore, it has been replaced by the Nemo file manager. Nemo works well with JWM and is quite lightweight, consuming an average of 25 MB of memory. This time, the desktop is active. Spacefm is managing the desktop." See the rest of the release announcement for further details and screenshots. Download (MD5): besgnulinux-jwm-3-1-amd64.iso (2,377MB, pkglist). |

Besgnulinux is a lightweight, desktop Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch, with JWM as its preferred desktop environment. The project's latest release is version 3-0 and it is based on the recently-released Debian 13. "Besgnulinux JWM 3-0 release based on Debian 'Trixie' is ready for release. Changes made in this version: the background image changer has been updated; a colour changer feature has been added to the image manager; the GRUB manager has been made simpler and easier to use; two more features have been added to the 'Enable tools' tool and its interface has been changed; added menu controls to the 'Manage panels' tool; a separate tool was made for JWM opacity. a new tool has been made to change the window title buttons or colour, it has been made available to be used with JWM to change the icon and system theme colour; the loading of the system menu and the creation of the local language at the opening have been made extremely fast, within 2 seconds; in addition to the usual software, a few useful programs have been added; because the Brave browser took too long to open, its base browser, Chromium, has been made the default. The touchpad driver has not yet been found, so it has not been added...." Additional details can be found in the release announcement.
