Armbian is a Linux distribution designed for ARM (and other) development boards. It is usually based on one of the stable or development versions of Debian or Ubuntu. The proejct's latest snapshot is version 25.11.1 and it features a wider range of hardware support and Btrfs boot support. "This release advances Armbian on three fronts: more boards now run on mainline-based firmware with BTRFS boot support; hardware coverage has grown significantly across multiple vendors; and the build framework has been upgraded with mmdebstrap, the lowmem extension, first-boot configuration injection, improved release logging, and more robust keyring and mirror handling. In our continued push toward mainline kernel support across our board portfolio, this release marks a significant milestone - the progressive retirement of vendor-specific boot loaders on several boards." Additional details can be found in the release announcement. A list of supported boards and download options can be found on the project's download page. The CachyOS project, which develops a highly-optimised, Arch Linux-based distribution with the latest KDE Plasma as the default live desktop, has updated its ISO image to version 251129: "This is our seventh release this year, bringing better accessibility, changes to mkinitcpio, and more. First, we are pleased to bring Orca and espeak-ng to the ISO image and installer. This adds crucial support for users with visual impairments, helping them navigate the CachyOS installation process. Next, we have enabled the mkinitcpio 'systemd' hook for supported configurations. Since ZFS and Bcachefs do not currently support this hook, it is automatically disabled if either is selected as the root filesystem. Additionally, we are now installing bcachefs-dkms, which replaces the default kernel module to provide better integration for Bcachefs users. We have prepared the installer to support Plasma Login Manager and Cosmic Greeter. While we plan to use Plasma Login Manager as a replacement for SDDM in the future, we are holding it back for now as it currently lacks integration with KDE Settings. However, Cosmic Greeter is now used for COSMIC installations, providing a smoother experience with the COSMIC desktop." See the release announcement for more details. The Solus project has published a snapshot of its rolling release distribution. The new version, labelled 4.8, replaces the old software centre, does away with Python 2, and completes the usr-merge process. "In October, we made the jump to a new epoch, the final chapter of our Usr-Merge saga. With the new epoch, we started using a new package repository, named Polaris, after the North Star. This unlocked our ability to remove Usr-Merge compatibility symbolic links from packages, update our systemd package, and more. You'll notice that the Solus Software Center is a thing of the past. While it was a popular program among users, it had problems, the first of which being it was written in Python 2. While it could have been ported to Python 3, this would have taken considerable effort, not just in porting, but also in testing. Even with that, it sometimes had reliability issues, and it had no support for Flatpaks. By switching to GNOME Software and KDE Discover, we are using ready-made and supported solutions to graphical package management." Additional information can be found in the release announcement. "As always, the new major release has some new features. Support for webcam devices has been greatly improved (via Zbar and V4L2 Viewer). Old (yet still quite useful) EmelFM2 file manager as well as uHexen2 (port of Raven Software's Hexen II source) have been added. GPAC (multimedia framework) is now available as a downloadable extension. You can find BlockOut II (3D tetris game) and PySol (a huge collection of solitaire card games) as parts of the 4MLinux Game Pack. Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of a brand-new version of EndeavourOS, an Arch Linux-based distribution with a customised KDE Plasma as the default desktop and the Calamares system installer. This new release carries the code name "Ganymede": "The long wait is over, Ganymede has arrived. The live environment and the offline installer ship with Calamares 25.11.1.9, Firefox 145.0.1. Linux 6.17.8, Mesa 25.2.7, X.Org Server 21.1.20, nvidia-utils 580.105.08. NVIDIA support has been significantly improved. Previously, the ISO image always included the standard NVIDIA package by default. Now, the system automatically detects the GPU during ISO boot and installs the correct driver, either 'nvidia' or 'nvidia-open'. Support for 'nvidia-open' has been added both to the ISO image environment and to the installer. The detection process ensures that the appropriate modules are loaded in the live session and correctly installed onto the target system. In short, NVIDIA driver handling is fully automatic, supports both GPU families, and uses the correct modules for your GPU at every stage when booting ISO using the NVIDIA boot option. The 'broadcom-wl' wireless driver is no longer enabled by default on the ISO image because it can cause other network devices to malfunction and may lead to system issues." Jaiden Riordan has announced the release of Ultramarine Linux 43, a new version of the project's Fedora-based desktop distribution with a choice of KDE Plasma, Budgie, GNOME and Xfce desktops: "Ultramarine 43 brings some gas-fired polish and a few surprise features. Budgie has been our (rather acclaimed) Flagship for a couple years, but over the last year we've noticed ourselves recommending other editions, this is (obviously) not a great endorsement for Budgie. Budgie was chosen as Ultramarine's Flagship for a pretty silly reason, simply because Fedora didn't have it yet. This has changed, and better options have emerged. KDE Plasma's 6.0 release made Plasma into a highly polished, modern experience, and it's only gotten better since. KDE and the Fedora KDE SIG put an insane amount of effort into Plasma, from its 5-Minute-Bugs initiative to dropping X11 support before GNOME. In Ultramarine 43 we are retiring the Flagship brand and recommending the Plasma edition." Continue to the release announcement for further information. Juha Uotila has announced the release of Aurora 43, an important update of the project's Fedora-based immutable Linux distribution made for general desktop use. This version updates the underlying system to Fedora 43 and the KDE Plasma desktop to version 6.5: "Aurora 'Stable' has been updated and is now based on Fedora 43. Unfortunately this time the update took a little longer than we would have hoped, but we had to wait for ZFS to get support for the new 6.17 kernel series. Fedora 43 is a minor update and doesn't bring many big updates in itself, but we have still done some backend work on the Aurora side. Changes are mostly non-invasive, it was just to make our sources lighter and easier to manage. KDE Plasma 6.5 also finally reached our stable images. People on daily images have already been enjoying Plasma 6.5 for the past few weeks. As we mentioned in our last update, one of the biggest changes regards Bazaar, the Flathub appstore. We have now fully moved to the Flatpak version of Bazaar, which provides more frequent updates. Furthermore, it is now easier to help upstream to get issues fixed. This brings some changes how Bazaar is integrated into the system." Continue to the release announcement for more information. The Aurora installation images have been updated as well; here is the download link: aurora-stable-x86_64.iso (6,528MB, SHA512, pkglist). |

Red Hat, Inc. has released two updated versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) - 10.1, the first point release of the distribution's latest stable release, and 9.7, an updated build of RHEL's legacy 9.x branch. "During the excitement of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL) launch at Red Hat Summit, I kept hearing one question from customers and partners: When would an offline version of the RHEL command-line assistant be available? Today I can announce that it's on the way. As part of the RHEL 10.1 update, an offline, locally available command-line assistant is officially in developer preview. For customers with a Red Hat Satellite subscription, it offers AI-powered RHEL guidance based on decades of enterprise Linux experience. Companies and agencies in finance, government, defense, industrial control, and other heightened-security industries will find it particularly useful. A key advantage of this design is its ability to function in completely disconnected, offline, or air-gapped environments, eliminating the need for external network connectivity." Uri Herrera has announced the release of Nitrux 5.0.0, a major update of the Linux distribution that aims to be "disruptive by design". This is the project's first build featuring an immutable base and the Hyprland Wayland compositor (dropping KDE Plasma in the process). Although Nitrux is built on Debian, it does not ship the traditional Debian package management utilities, relying instead on AppImage, Flatpak, Distrobox and similar utilities to install new software. "We are pleased to announce the launch of Nitrux 5.0.0. This new version combines the latest software updates, bug fixes, performance improvements, and ready-to-use hardware support. Given the massive changes in this release, we recommend a fresh installation using the latest media. There's no planned update path from Nitrux 3.9.1 to 5.0.0; nonetheless, update archives for 5.0.0 and onwards will be available through the Nitrux Update tool. As announced back in June, Nitrux no longer uses the KDE Plasma desktop; beginning with this release, we transition fully to Hyprland. The transition took more than a few weeks, it wasn't just a matter of installation." Read the detailed release announcement for information. The Volumio team has announced the release of Volumio 4.067, a major update of the project's single-purpose Debian-based Linux distribution designed and fine-tuned exclusively for music playback. This release updates the underlying system to Debian 12: "Today marks something special for us and for everyone who loves what Volumio does. After nearly a year of work, we're releasing Volumio 4 for Raspberry Pi and PC platforms. You might fire it up and think, 'Wait, it looks the same.' And you'd be right. We didn't redesign the interface or move buttons around. What we did was rebuild the foundation. Why this matters? Think of Volumio 4 like replacing the engine in your favorite car. From the driver's seat, everything feels familiar. But under the hood, we've swapped in something more powerful, more efficient, and ready to take you places the old engine simply couldn't go. We've moved to Debian 'Bookworm', which is the technical way of saying we've given Volumio a completely modern foundation. Here's where things get exciting. Volumio 4 works hand in hand with our new Volumio app, which just landed on the app stores. This is the first step in our vision - one seamless ecosystem for music playback, everywhere, for every kind of digital music." See the full release announcement for further information and screenshots. The MX Linux team has announced that version 25 of its distribution is now available. MX Linux 25 is based on Debian 13. The release announcement shares the key new features: "MX Linux 25 is now available for use. MX 25 is built from Debian 13 'Trixie' and MX repositories. All releases come with systemd. The Xfce, Xfce AHS and Fluxbox releases are also available in SysVInt variants. SysvVInit ISO images are clearly labeled such in the filen ame. Reasons for this change from past editions are in this blog post. Major desktop versions: Xfce 4.20, Fluxbox 1.3.7, KDE Plasma 6.3.6. Most ISO images come with the latest 6.12.48 kernel from the Debian 'Stable' repositories. The Xfce AHS variants have the 6.16 Liquorix kernels. The antiX live system has been modified to work better with systemd as the init system. To those that want to run live systems as a primary system, the SysVInit editions support better the antiX live system. The Qt-based GUI MX Tools have been migrated to Qt 6. Most apps have also received bug fixes and translation updates. Our long-time updater tool, apt-notifier, has been replaced with a new tool, mx-updater." The PorteuX development team has release PorteuX 2.4, the latest version of the project's set of lightweight and stripped-down Linux distribution featuring a number of popular desktop environments. This release presents a new desktop option, the COSMIC desktop developed by System 76: "This release brings the COSMIC desktop environment for 'current'. Bear in mind it's still in beta, so expect many issues, including cosmic-osd running at full CPU load (already reported). This is the last PorteuX release that will include a version based on Slackware stable. After much consideration, we decided that this version is just too old and brings no advantage over the current version, which is extensively tested before each PorteuX release. Changes: fixed date/time during boot time; fixed cheatcode from using UUID not having a trailing slash; fixed Cinnamon rendering in Wayland; fixed cropped title bar in Xfce; fixed small title bar icons in Openbox...." The Murena team have announced a new version of its /e/OS operating system for mobile devices. The new 3.2 version features notifications when apps are leaking data and customization options for the side button on the Fairphone 6. There are also improvements to the project's software centre: "In Advanced Privacy, users are now informed in real time when apps attempt to leak data, with simple controls to manage notifications. The App Lounge has also been refined: app sizes from F-Droid are now displayed, and common apps are shown based on region for a better browsing experience. For Fairphone (Gen.6) users, /e/OS 3.2 introduces customization of the side button, allowing you to assign your preferred actions. While the dedicated Moments feature from Android is not yet available, this new customization gives you more flexibility in how you use the button. A major improvement has been implemented to the Fairphone (Gen.6). Fairphone Camera app is now available on /e/OS, enjoy an even better camera experience on your phone." Additional details are offered in the project's newsletter and in the release notes. A list of supported devices and install options are available on Murena's devices page. |

The iodéOS team have announced the availability of iodéOS 6.9. The new version focuses on security and user accounts, enabling automatic reboot after a period of inactivity, full signing out of user accounts, and better protection of device settings. "Full logout for secondary users - secondary users can now be fully logged out of the device, rather than just switching accounts. This ensures a cleaner separation of user environments and better privacy for everyone sharing the device. Also included in iodéOS 4 and later versions. Private Space and Work Profiles for secondary users - secondary users can now use Private Space and Work Profiles, allowing them to leverage apps like Shelter for better data isolation. This is ideal for families or teams who need to keep personal and work data separate, even on shared devices. Work Profiles also included in iodéOS 5. App links (deep links) let apps open specific URLs directly instead of defaulting to the browser. With iodéOS 6.9, apps can now automatically validate these links if configured, eliminating the need for manual approval and making the experience smoother and more efficient." The project's release announcement has further details. Download and install options are available through the project's Installation page. |

The developers of antiX, a lightweight, systemd-free desktop Linux distribution featuring the IceWM window manager, have announced the availability of the initial beta build of a major new version, 25, based on Debian 13. This release adds s6-rc and s6-66 as alternatives to runit and Dinit init systems: "Here is the first beta ISO image of antiX 25 (64- bit). Bullet point notes for now: based on Debian 13 'Trixie'; four modern systemd-free init systems – runit (default), s6-rc, s6-66 and Dinit; new default look; the usual ‘antiX magic’; you *should* be able to boot live in the non-default init and it *should* then become the default after install. Please note that user intervention will be required more than in previous versions of antiX, especially if not using the default runit option. This means that users will need to add any needed service files for the init they are using, e.g. network-manager will also need runit-service-network-manager (and the equivalents for dinit, s6-rc and s6-66, if available). Test it out and post feedback in the thread at the forums. This release is unique in that it would not have existed without the cooperation of many other distro developers." Umbrel, Inc. has announced the release of umbrelOS 1.5.0, the latest version of the company's Debian-based Linux distribution for home servers, available for standard 64-bit and Raspberry Pi computers. The distribution features a web-based user interface and an online app store with a large range of applications - anything from web hosting, productivity and finance to media streaming, networking, automation, artificial intelligence, development and Bitcoin mining. Version 1.5.0 delivers a number of improvements: "umbrelOS 1.5 brings automatic encrypted backups, Rewind in Files, network drive mounts, external USB storage and formatting support on amd64 devices, GPU acceleration for apps, and several performance improvements and bug fixes. New features: backups - umbrelOS can now automatically back up all of your files, apps and data to another Umbrel or a NAS on your network, or an external USB drive; Rewind in Files - time travel through your backups to restore specific files and folders from any point in the past; network mounts in Files - mount network drives and shares, like another Umbrel or a NAS, and browse them directly within Files...." Devuan GNU+Linux 6.0.0, code name "Excalibur", has been released. This latest version of the project's systemd-free Linux distribution forked from Debian in 2015 is based on Debian 13: "It is with great pleasure that the Devuan developers hereby announce the release of Devuan Excalibur 6.0 as the project's newest stable release. This is the result of lots of painstaking work by the team and extensive testing by the wider Devuan community. New in this release: a [merged-/usr]filesystem is obligatory, if you are upgrading from 'Daedalus' ensure you have complied with this requirement before upgrading; PipeWire audio - in general (with the notable exception of users requiring a screen reader for graphical login), the PipeWire media server is a superior solution to PulseAudio, in particular it has fewer latency issues; non-free firmware - all Devuan 6 installation media make non-free firmware packages available at install time, in the majority of the cases, these packages are needed (and will be installed) only if your hardware (usually WiFi adapter) requires them." NebiSoft has announced the release of NebiOS 10.0, a major new version of the project's general-purpose, Ubuntu-based desktop Linux distribution with a custom-built NebiOS Wayland compositor and various user interface enhancements. "NebiOS X 10.0 is the final release following RC4 and delivering a more stable NebiDE Wayland environment, simplified OOBE, and a migration to kisak-mesa stable drivers. This version represents the maturity and balance of the NebiOS X platform. NebiOS X arrives with the most mature and stable form of NebiDE Wayland to date. This release not only introduces refined interface elements but also brings deep, structural improvements aimed at reducing complexity and improving overall performance compared to previous builds. With NebiOS X, the X11-based NebiDE legacy era has officially come to an end. In RC4, the 'Bookmarks' section would still appear on some systems even when no directories were actually bookmarked. In 10.0, this has been corrected - if no bookmarks exist, both the group and its icon are now hidden. This change eliminates the confusion between the file manager shortcut icon and the bookmarks group within the Utility Panel. The panel now shows the group only when user-defined directories exist, resulting in a cleaner and more logical layout." See the complete release announcement for further details.
