The Nitrux team have published a new version of the project's Debian-based distribution. The project's latest release, which is labelled "fefc905b" and referred to as 3.2.0 in the release announcement updates the kernel, key desktop applications, and enforces strict password checks in the Calamares system installer. "Nitrux 3.2.0 build.301123.fx uses Linux 6.6.2-1 (Liquorix). We’ve updated the following components of the distribution. Firefox to version 120.0. KDE Gear version 23.08.3. Updates to our Calamares settings include the following. Calamares will now enforce a stricter user password quality check by using libpwquality to increase user account security. When creating the main user account, i.e., the 'system administrator,' users must use a password over eight characters long, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, when creating their user accounts during installation. We recommend using a password generator application or website. Otherwise, the password quality check will be too low, and the installation will not continue." This release is currently available for the x86-64, aarch64, ppc64le and s390x architectures. The 9.3 release brings back cloud and container images for ppc64le that were not released with 9.2 due to issues with QEMU. These images may be divergent from the other architecture's images in some small ways, but we will work to reduce this delta in future releases of the images. The kernel-rt package has been merged into a subpackage of kernel. A new kernel-uki package was introduced as a technology preview, providing a Unified Kernel Image variant for booting. This UKI image is signed with its own SecureBoot key. A java-21-openjdk package was introduced providing a new version of Java. Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of EndeavourOS 11-2023, code-named "Galileo", a major update of the project's Arch-based Linux distribution. In this release, the live ISO image ships with KDE Plasma desktop (instead of Xfce), Linux kernel 6.6.1 and an updated Calamares system installer: "It has taken a while to develop this release but we are still here and despite life throwing in extra challenges for each of our team members the past months, we are proud to present you our Galileo ISO with significant changes. KDE Plasma replaced Xfce as the Live environment and on the offline install option. To make development and maintenance easier for the team, we switched to KDE Plasma instead of Xfce due to a more native experience for our developers with the Calamares installer. This only affects the Live environment and the offline install option. When choosing the online install option, Xfce is still there as an option to choose from. For those who like the Xfce theme we created, this option will still be available after installation through the Welcome app." See the release announcement for a complete list of changes and screenshots. Red Hat has announced the release of a new update to its 9.x Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) product line. The new version, RHEL 9.3, introduces a few changes, including supporting UEFI environments in cloud instances. "Red Hat, Inc. today announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3 and the forthcoming availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9. Martin Husemann has announced the availability of first release candidate for NetBSD 10.0, nearly 11 months after its beta snapshot: "The NetBSD project is pleased to announce the first release candidate of the upcoming 10.0 release, please help testing. The netbsd-10 release branch is more than a year old now, so it is high time the 10.0 release makes it to the front stage. This matches the long time it took for the development branch to get ready for branching, a lot of development went into this new release. This also caused the release anouncement to be one of the longest we ever did. Especially on amd64 machines, please notes that we got a new DRM/KMS subsystem version and this may lead to fallout on some hardware. Unfortunately not all known bugs from the release engineering pre-release task list could be fixed in time for this release - we will continue to improve the current state and hope to have more of them solved for the next (10.1) release." We consider 20.04 OTA-3's state of the PinePhone adaptation a beta release. For now you still need to flash the Pine{Phone,Phone Pro,Tab,Tab2} upstream images as usual. Please test and give feedback to our developers. A great thanks goes to Oren and Luigi for working on the 20.04 Pine{Phone,Phone Pro,Tab} ports and esp. fixing sensor dependent rotation of the Lomiri shell and bringing back Location Service (GPS et al.) support from Ubuntu Touch 16.04 (aka Xenial). This release of Ubuntu Touch is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, so latest Ubuntu 20.04 LTS security updates have landed in this OTA."
