Jerry Bezencon has announced the release of Linux Lite 6.0. The distribution, which is geared toward providing a user friendly experience on an Ubuntu base, is focusing on bringing assistive technologies to users. "It's a well known fact that we target Windows users. Out of the box, Windows offers a fairly complete system. That includes tools for the hearing and sight impaired. In this release you can zoom in on the desktop, have a screen reader talk to you and complete tasks with an onscreen keyboard. We've made all of these functions highly configurable. The onscreen keyboard application is Onboard. On-screen virtual keyboard is an alternative input method that can replace a real hardware keyboard. Virtual keyboard may be a necessity in various cases. For example, your hardware keyboard is just broken; you do not have enough keyboards for extra machines; your hardware does not have an available port left to connect a keyboard; you experience difficulty in typing on a real keyboard; or you are building a touchscreen-based web kiosk. Orca is a free and open-source, flexible, extensible screen reader from the Gnome project for individuals who are blind or visually impaired." Additional information along with screenshots are available in the project's release announcement. Download (SHA256): linux-lite-6.0-64bit.iso (2,119MB, pkglist). |

"ExTiX Mini Build 220501 with LXQt and Linux kernel 5.17.2 - run it super fast from RAM and/or create your own Linux system using Refracta Snapshot. I've made a new updated mini version of ExTiX - the ultimate Linux system. It is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS 'Jammy Jellyfish'. The ISO image file is of only 1,340 MB which is good if you want to run the system super fast from RAM. It should be enough with 2 GB of RAM. When the boot process is ready, you can eject the DVD or the USB stick. Use 'Boot alternative 2'. The best thing with ExTiX 22.5 is that while running the system live (from DVD or USB) or from hard drive, you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu 22.04 system. So easy that a ten-year old child can do it. ExTiX 22.5 uses Linux kernel 5.17.2. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will be supported until April 2027." Besides the main ISO image, the development team also provides various modules which can be added to the live image to extend its usability. The new Zephix 5 re-introduces the LXQt desktop and firmware modules directly into the live system and ads a "to RAM" boot option: "Zephix 5 has been released. Updated Syslinux and GRUB boot logos to reflect more the Zephix theme; added a 'to RAM' boot option - Zephix can now be loaded totally in memory (if enough RAM is available); changed the default console font; included the desktop and firmware modules by default in the ISO image to make it more usable - this decision was taken thanks to the feedback received from various users." Visit the distribution's About page which contains all the recent changelogs and several screenshots. Download: Zephix-5R-20220430-x86_64.iso (1,204MB, pkglist). |
