The deepin distribution team has announced version 25 of its operating system. The deepin distribution includes the new Deepin Desktop Environment 7.0, an immutable filesystem, and an AI assistant which responds to voice commands. "We deeply understand the importance of system stability for users. To this end, deepin 25 proudly introduces 'Solid' (deepin Immutable System), redefining the benchmark for stability in Linux operating systems. Read-Only Protection, Preventing Core Tampering: By forcibly mounting core directories like /usr/bin as read-only, the system fundamentally blocks accidental user actions or malware from modifying the system core, ensuring long-term stable operation. For developers needing deep customization, we also provide a convenient command to toggle protection on/off instantly. Second-Level Snapshots: Upgrade Without Worry: Before every system update, the system automatically creates a backup snapshot. Even if something unexpected happens during the update, the system can automatically roll back to the last known good state upon reboot, eliminating 'update-bricking' anxiety." Details on these features and more can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: deepin-desktop-community-25-amd64.iso (6,028MB, SHA256, torrent, pkglist). |

Arne Exton has announced the availability of a new "OpSuS" edition of Exton Linux. Based on openSUSE Tumbleweed, it uses the lightweight LXQt desktop environment, which means that it can be run smoothly even on fairly old computers: "I've made a new version of EXTON OpSuS with LXQt 2.2.0 as the only desktop environment. The ISO image is therefore rather small (1,850MB), which means that you can run the system from RAM really fast even if you have only 4GB RAM. This new EXTON OpSuS build is made from 'scratch', following the 'openSUSE:Expert Installation' Wiki. Linux kernel 6.14.6 is used when running EXTON OpSuS live. When running the system from hard drive you can use openSUSE's original kernel, right now it is version 6.15.2. When the boot process is ready, you will end up at LightDM's login screen. You can log in to the LXQt desktop as user with password 'live' or as root with password 'root'. Version 250621 of EXTON OpSuS can run on really old computers. As an example I could run it on my 17-year old Acer Aspire 5102 WLMi laptop." Read the release announcement for further information. The Kali Linux team has released a new snapshot of the project's penetration testing distribution. Kali Linux 2025.2 features GNOME 48 and KDE Plasma 6.3, but the biggest visible change is to the application menu: "We've completely reworked the Kali menu. It's now reorganized to follow the MITRE ATT&CK framework structure, which means that finding the right tool for your task should now be a lot more intuitive for red and blue teams alike. Previously the Kali menu structure followed what was in BackTrack, which followed WHAX before it. The previous structure was an in-house item, before MITRE was a thing. When our menu was first created, there wasn't as much design planning done, which we suffered for later. It meant that over time, scaling and adding new tools became difficult for us. The knock on effect was that this made it harder for you, the end users, to discover new tools as similar tools with overlapping functions were in different places or missing entries. Yes, seasoned professionals may not use the menu to start up items, using shortcuts such as super key and typing the tool name, or via a terminal window. We see the menu as a way to discover tools." The Rocky Linux project has published Rocky Linux 10.0, which mirrors the changes and updates from upstream's Enterprise Linux product line. Some of the key changes in version 10.0 include dropping X11 in favour of Wayland for the GNOME desktop session and introducing a RISC-V branch. "All 32-bit packages have been removed from Rocky Linux 10. This means that 32-bit applications will no longer run on this version of Rocky Linux. Please use 64-bit libraries or containers with 32-bit dependencies instead. Users will have administrative privileges by default, unless you deselect the option. The Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is now the default for graphical remote access, replacing VNC. The DHCP client in RL 10 is implemented as an internal subsystem of NetworkManager. The legacy dhcp-client package is no longer supported upstream and has been removed. The ISC DHCP server is end-of-life upstream and is replaced by its successor, Kea DHCP, in RL 10. In RL 10, Wayland replaces the X.Org Server. Xwayland will support most X11 clients that have not yet been ported to Wayland. Some desktop applications and components are also replaced in RL 10." Gaming Linux France has announced the availability of a beta release of GLF OS Omnislash, a NixOS-based Linux distribution designed primarily for gamers: "The development of the new version of GLF OS is complete and the result exceeds all our expectations. Although we still qualify it as a 'beta' version due to lack of hindsight, it is fully functional. This success is the result of incredible teamwork, which together has transformed GLF OS from an ambitious project into one that is poised to deliver on its promise: to become the most accessible distribution for beginners and anyone wishing to switch from Windows to Linux. New features: new editions - Mini, Studio and Studio Pro, all also available with KDE; extended steering wheel compatibility - support for Thrustmaster, Fanatec and Logitech; improved gaming experience - added Oversteer and the MangoHud presets tool; performance and stability - transition to the GLF OS kernel (vanilla Nix with Cachy improvement); controller management - Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and 8BitDo controllers are now managed...." Read the release announcement for further information. The new release of GLF OS is available for download via BitTorrent: GLF-OS-BETA-OMNISLASH.iso (6,344MB, SHA256, torrent, pkglist). |

The UBports team has released an update to the project's mobile operating system, 20.04 OTA-9. The new update focuses on three main improvements: "Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-9 contains only minimal changes due to our current focus on Ubuntu base OS upgrade. Still there are interesting changes: VoLTE support is updated so that it works out-of-box with more carriers (Thanksb to Nikita (@Notkit) from Volla), Please note that we've tested VoLTE on a few Volla devices only. Other ports may have VoLTE support enabled; such support is experimental and may not always function correctly. Waydroid has been updated to version 1.5.1, containing initial support for upcoming official Android 13 images, among other fixes (Thanks to Jami (@deathmist) from Volla). Font for emoji is switched from Emoji One to Noto Color Emoji, with improved support for some of newer emojis. (Thanks to Alfred (@fredldotme))." A complete list of changes along with upgrade instructions can be found in the project's release announcement. A list of supported devices and install instructions can be found on the UBports devices page. |

The Murena organization has announced a new release of their mobile operating system, /e/OS, along with a series of new features. "/e/OS's Advanced Privacy feature now offers users a comprehensive overview of how their data is handled. New Weekly Reports provide detailed insights into invasive apps, aggressive trackers, and an overall Privacy Score. Users can even share these reports on social media to raise awareness. In addition, users can now customize app geolocation access, distinguishing which apps see true vs. fake locations. We unveil an ultra powerful tool to protect users' data on our Murena Workspace at murena.io: a user-friendly and end-to-end encrypted Online Vault, powered by the CryptPad technology, now in beta. This feature allows users to store sensitive files with end-to-end encryption—including for real-time editing and collaboration. This new test service helps explore how ultra-strong encryption can be integrated into the Murena ecosystem with minimal impact on user experience. With Find My Device via SMS in /e/OS 3.0, users can locate their device even when they're far from it—no internet connection required. This simple yet effective feature uses standard text messages (SMS) to help users geolocate their device, securely and with ease." A list of supported devices along with install instructions can be found on Murena's devices page. |

Adrian Arjoca has announced the release of AxOS 25.06, the latest version of the project's Arch-based desktop Linux distribution featuring a custom package manager called Epsilon. This release uses the Hyprland-based Sleex (developed in-house) as the default desktop environment: "This new 25.06 release comes with new features: Sleex is now the default desktop environment - sleek, smooth and crafted for AxOS; new installation kits, no more useless bloat; choose your vibe - Artist, Developer, Hacker; new SDDM theme; new AxOS packages come out of the box. Caution: AxOS (especially Sleex) is not virtual machine-friendly. Do you want to try it in a virtual machine anyway? Enable 3D acceleration or set up GPU passthrough; even then, expect some graphical hiccups and performance mood swings. Important: I need feedbacks, I can't improve AxOS without it." Read the the release announcement for further information and visit the distribution's documentation pages to learn about how to use AxOS and Sleex. A new stable release of PorteuX, a Slackware-based Linux distribution that means to be fast, small, portable, modular and immutable, is now available. PorteuX 2.1 introduces the brand-new 6.15 Linux kernel and delivers various bug fixes: "PorteuX 2.1. Nothing beats a new release where the system works better and is even smaller. The default NTFS driver has been changed from ntfs-3g to ntfs3 (kernel native). After extensive development, the driver seems stable now. VirtualBox 7.1.8 (latest stable) is not compatible with kernel 6.15. So this release includes a module for VirtualBox 7.2.0 Beta 1. Wayland sessions in VirtualBox are supported but it's recommended to enable 3D Accelaration in Settings, Display. Changelog: fixed a bug where sometimes a module could be incorrectly detected as corrupted; fixed the Linux installer to be language-agnostic...."
