HeliumOS is an atomic and immutable distribution which is built upon AlmaLinux OS. The project has published HeliumOS 10 which uses Btrfs as the default filesystem, zsh for the shell, and offers version 6.12 of the Linux kernel. "HeliumOS 10 has released with some notable changes from earlier alpha releases: Version 6.12 of the Linux kernel from AlmaLinux, signed for secure boot. zsh as default shell, with a polished and minimal configuration. BTRFS as default filesystem, with an option for LUKS full-disk encryption in the installer. Docker is installed by default, see our documentation for more details. HeliumOS build sources were migrated from a collection of Bash scripts to Ansible yaml. These are built using Podman into Bootable Container images... Two critical bugs were found and fixed during the HeliumOS 10 alpha + beta: fixed a bug through the use of HeliumOS 'Edge' edition, some devices using NVIDIA GPUs previously experienced stuttering; automatically recovers from kernel panics resulting from a bug where systemd-remount-fs.service does not function properly on bootc systems." Additional details are available in the release announcement. Download (SHA256): HeliumOS-10-x86_64-boot.iso (3,863MB, pkglist). |

The DragonFly BSD project has published a new update to the operating system's 6.4 series. The new release, DragonFly BSD 6.4.2, fixes a disk size issue when running in a QEMU virtual machine, corrects an issue when using IPv6 addresses, and corrects a problem when a program would crash when creating many child processes. The release announcement reports: "QEMU reported a old style disk geometry that was max 8GB, so the installer would create a too-small volume. The installer now reads true disk size. Panics when using ipv6 under certain circumstances are fixed. Crash caused when a program creates a large number of child processes is fixed. This was seen with Neovim and Chrome." The changelog covers more details and lists smaller changes, including allowing syslog to run on the operating system's install media. "Don't disable syslogd in live CD/USB - we're mounting a tmpfs at /var, so it's okay to write under /var/log. Don't disable syslogd so that it could write the log files that might be helpful; fdisk(8), clear errno in read_disk() to avoid confusing others - for example, even read_disk() succeeded in detecting the sector size and reading, the errno would remain EIO, which could confuse the later code that calls err() or others." OPNsense is a FreeBSD-based specialist operating system designed for firewalls and routers. The project's latest release, OPNsense 25.7, introduces several changes to the user interface and updates the base system to FreeBSD 14.3. "25.7, nicknamed 'Visionary Viper', features reusable and thoroughly revamped frontend code, an SFTP backup plugin, experimental privilege separation for the GUI, JSON container support for aliases, a new and improved firewall automation GUI, performance enhancements especially for numerous aliases being used at once, Dnsmasq DHCP support, Kea DHCPv6 support, Greek as a new language, FreeBSD 14.3." The release announcement mentions some migration items too: "Deprecated Google Drive backups due to upstream policy changes and moved to plugins for existing users. API URLs registered in the default ACLs have been switched from 'camleCase' to 'snake_case'. API grid return values now offer '%field' for a value description when available. 'field' will now always be the literal value from the configuration. The API previously returned a display value for some field types, but not all. Reverted tunables 'hw.ibrs_disable' and 'vm.pmap.pti' to FreeBSD defaults. If you want these set differently, then add them with an explicit value." Liya is an Arch Linux-based, rolling-release distribution. The project's latest release is Liya 2.4 which introduces optimizations and responsiveness improvements. "The system is now optimized for x86_64-v2 and v3, allowing better compiler optimizations, reduced latency, and smarter memory use. If your processor supports v3, I strongly recommend using the corresponding ISO - the speed boost is noticeable across daily tasks. Shoutout to the ALHP project for making microarch-specific builds more accessible. Switched to the Xanmod kernel. Shravya ships with the linux-xanmod kernel by default. This kernel is optimized for responsiveness and performance, making Liya snappier for daily use, gaming, creative workloads, and development. This kernel alone has significantly improved performance in benchmarks and real-world usage. Memory management has been rethought: If your system has more than 8GiB of RAM, zram will be auto-enabled at install time. For systems with 8 GB or less, zswap will be used for better compatibility. These changes improve performance and reduce swap-related disk usage without requiring user intervention." Additional details are provided in the release announcement. The Br OS project has announced the release of Br OS 12.11. The new version marks a significant milestone as the project has moved away from its Ubuntu base to using Debian as its parent distribution. "Stability is one of the things to expect, Debian 'Stable' is undoubtedly the most stable Linux distribution that exists. Focusing on Debian 'Stable' ensures that each version of Br OS is a long-term supported release with years of support, that is, if the user does not feel safe to upgrade to the next stable version, still have time to upgrade. Br OS 12.11 will have general Debian team support until December 2026 and LTS support until June 2028. Br OS now has its own nomenclature, each version will have its own code name, version 12.11 came with the code name 'Lara'. Despite the long-term support, Br OS 12.11 is a version that aims only to mark the migration to the Debian base, this means that very soon we will be releasing Br OS 13.0 Dira, which is already in the development phase. Br OS 12.11 comes with KDE Plasma 5.27.5, KDE Frameworks 5.103, Qt 5.15.8, Linux kernel 6.1, and Wayland graphics server, with X.Org as an alternative graphics server." Curtis Gedak has announced the release of GParted Live 1.7.0-8, a new stable release of the project's Debian-based specialist live CD designed for disk partitioning and data rescue tasks. This release release drops support for 32-bit processors due to Debian's decision to no longer pack i386 Linux kernel and it also updates the Linux kernel to version 6.12.37. "The GParted team is pleased to announce a new stable release of GParted Live. This release includes GParted 1.7.0, updated packages and other improvements. Items of note include: only amd64 (x86-64) images are available going forward - as mentioned in the Debian release mailing list, dropping i386 kernel packages, the i386 Linux kernel packages were dropped in our upstream, Debian 'Sid' repository, hence i686/i686-pae GParted Live will be no more in the future; from this release on, only amd64 (x86-64) release will be available; includes GParted 1.7.0; implemented a mechanism to reduce the possibility of random order of block devices in GParted Live; based on the Debian 'Sid' repository as of 2025-07-12; Linux kernel image updated to 6.12.37. A new release of CachyOS, a highly-optimised, Arch Linux-based distribution with KDE Plasma as the preferred desktop in live mode, is now available for download. The 250713 version enables users to choose a preferred shell at installation time and defaults to the Wayland display server for new Plasma installations. "This is our fifth release this year, and it includes a long-awaited requested feature, improvements for chwd, and more. The user's shell can now be chosen at installation time. In the package list selection, there is now an option to choose between cachyos-fish-config and cachyos-zsh-config. If neither is selected, the system will default to Bash. The default configuration will still be Fish, as it was before. We received some reports that systemd-oomd was killing processes too early in some cases. We have removed its integration to avoid these issues. For Plasma installations, we are now defaulting to Wayland. For graphics configurations that do not support Wayland (e.g., NVIDIA legacy drivers), the plasma-x11-session will be automatically installed to prevent issues. Additionally, fwupd has been added to the Plasma and GNOME environments." Continue to the release announcement for further details. Rhino Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which offers a rolling-release upgrade approach. The project's latest snapshot introduces a rewritten package manager (RPK2) and a new KDE-based desktop environment which uses Plasma 6 packages. "2025.3 images ship with RPK2, our rewrite of Rhino PKG in Nushell, by default. We have already written a blog post detailing the changes that came in RPK2, which we recommend checking out if you haven't already. We also recommend all users review the updated Rhino PKG Wiki or rpk help message to learn about the new commands and shorthands. We have also announced the release of our UBXI KDE Desktop package this release cycle, based on Plasma 6. You can read the full announcement here. Additionally, we want to reiterate that we plan to release official UBXI KDE disk image spins by the end of the year, shipping alongside the standard Unicorn Desktop images, to allow for more desktop options out-of-the-box. Pacstall has had a few major bumps in between Rhino Linux 2025.2 and 2025.3. The MocaccinoOS development team has announced the release of MocaccinoOS 1.8.3, a minor update of the project's minimalist, Gentoo-based Linux distribution with a custom package manager called "Luet" and a choice of four popular desktops: "Today we are releasing MocaccinoOS 1.8.3. This is mostly an upgraded version that doesn't introduce too many new features. Everything is compiled against a very recent Gentoo Portage tree. Changes since 1.8.2: Linux kernel is upgraded to 6.12.35 (LTS); Mesa version 25.1.4; Qt updated to 6.9.1; NVIDIA drivers version 570.153.02 (available in repository); KDE Plasma 6.3.5; GNOME 47.3. Issues and improvements: we are aware that MOS images are not fully EFI complaint, certain (mostly older) systems are not booting properly with EFISTUB used in our images. At the moment we do not have a proper solution and the workaround is to change your BIOS settings to boot in legacy mode. Notes for testers: additional software can be installed through Flatpak, docker or the community repository. Please give us feedback by reporting bugs or sharing your ideas with us." "I am proud to announce that Linux Kamarada 15.6 is ready for everyone to use. Linux Kamarada is a Linux distribution based on openSUSE Leap and is intended for use on desktops at home and at work, in both private companies and government entities. It features the essential software selection for any Linux installation and a nice-looking modern desktop. The most notable update was to the GNOME desktop, which on Linux Kamarada 15.4 and 15.5 was at version 41, and is now at 45. The GNOME desktop has a new quick settings menu. Its new design makes it easy to quickly see the status (whether WiFi is on or off, whether Bluetooth is on or off) as well as change commonly-used settings (connect to a WiFi network, pair a Bluetooth device). Settings which previously required digging into menus can now be changed with the click of button." See the release announcement for more information and screenshots. Valeria Fadeeva has announced the release of a new version of Melawy Linux, an Arch-based desktop Linux distribution with a customised KDE Plasma as the preferred desktop. The new version, labelled as 2025.07.04, comes with updated packages as well as various important changes. Most notably, the distribution now uses the XanMod kernel, a general-purpose Linux kernel with custom settings and third-party patches. Previously, Melawy Linux used a kernel built by CachyOS for improved performance and responsiveness, but the CachyOS kernel does not work on some laptops. Also, the XanMod kernel offers support for Waydroid, a container-based method that enables Android to run in a containerized environment on Linux systems. The new release also comes with unspecified bug fixes. Visit the project's news page to read the brief release announcement (in Russian) and to see the screenshots. Although Melawy Linux is a Russian project, the distribution defaults to an English-language user interface. The latest version, provided in "Base" and "Developer" editions, is available in for download from SourceForge as split ISO images or as torrents (pkglist): Melawy-Linux-Base-System-2025.07.04-x86_64.iso (7,443MB, torrent, SHA256, signature), Melawy-Linux-Developer-Edition-2025.07.04-x86_64.iso (11,707MB, torrent, SHA256, signature). |

Arne Exton has announced the availability of a new version of ExTiX, based on the recently-released deepin 25 and featuring the Deepin desktop: "I released a new version of ExTiX Deepin today. The previous ExTiX Deepin edition with deepin 23 stable is from 2024-08-16. This ExTiX Build is based on deepin 25 stable (the latest version) released by Deepin Technology on June 26, 2025. ExTiX 25.7 uses Linux kernel 6.15.3. ExTiX 25.7 works in the same way as all other ExTiX editions, i.e. you can install it to hard drive while running the system live; use the Refracta installer for that. You can also create your own live installable deepin 25 system with Refracta Snapshot. New functions: VirtualBox Guest Additions are not pre-installed; you can run ExTiX from RAM; you can only use the Refracta installer for hard drive installations; I have installed Firefox as a replacement for deepin's browser; I've added the Synaptic package manager; you can watch Netflix while running Firefox."
