The Emmabuntüs project has announced the launch of a new branch of the distribution. Emmabuntüs releases to date have been based on Xubuntu, but the distribution's new branch is based on the Debian "stable" branch. "On the technical side, this new version looks a lot like Emmabuntüs 3, which is based on Xubuntu 14.04 LTS, but it is lighter and faster, according to our very first tests. So we are able to reuse the full set of the Emmabuntüs 3 tutorials hosted on the Developpez.com site, with the noticeable exception of the installation guide which shall be edited to take into account the specific Debian Life Installer. This 1.00 version includes the following updates and improvements: based on Debian 8.5; addition of libre and non-libre packages to support WiFi connections in Live mode; addition Revival icon theme; addition of HandySoft as new software center...." Emmabuntüs is a desktop Linux distribution with editions based on Debian's Stable branch with the Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. The project's latest update fixes a number of boot time and install issues. It also includes updated versions of packages, particularly web browsers. "For this version 1.02, the following and improvements and fixes have been implemented: based on the Debian 11.4; added 64-bit UEFI boot with a 32-bit ISO and vice versa; added installation of boot in UEFI 64-bits with a 32-bits ISO images and vice versa; added MemTest86+ launch in UEFI mode; fixed not launching keyboard selection in SysLinux and GRUB; Fixed Zenity crash when installing new language packs; fixed language change script due to Calamares; fixed APT cache creation script; updated Debian Beginner's Handbook 11.3; updated Calamares slideshow by adding a slide about the reuse campaign and an updated version of the computer rooms map in Togo; updated a new version of DWService agent and implemented a package; updated gSpeech to version 0.11.0." Patrick d'Emmabuntüs has announced the release of an updated build of Emmabuntüs, a Debian-based desktop Linux distribution designed primarily for old older and reconditioned computers donated to humanitarian organisations. Besides shipping with an updated base system, the new version also adds the Ventoy utility, an open-source tool for creating bootable USB drives from ISO image files: "The Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the Emmabuntüs 'Debian' Edition 4 1.01 update (32-bit and 64-bit), based on the Debian 11.2 'Bullseye' distribution and supporting both Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. This new update of our distribution brings the addition of the Ventoy utility as part of our re-use campaign launched in early September 2020 in collaboration with our friends from Debian-Facile and Tugaleres.com in France, as well as Blabla Linux in Belgium, as we have just put online a second version of our refurbishing USB flash drive now based on Ventoy. The advantage of using Ventoy instead of MultiSystem is that it allows the creation of this key on GNU/Linux and Windows." The project has published a new version which is based on Debian 11 "Bullseye". "On September 20th 2021, the Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the new Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 4 1.00 (32 and 64 bits), based on the Debian 11.0 Bullseye distribution and supporting both XFCE and LXQt desktop environments. This distribution was originally designed to facilitate the reconditioning of computers donated to humanitarian organizations, starting with the Emmaüs communities (which is where the distribution’s name obviously comes from), to promote the discovery of GNU/Linux by beginners, as well as to extend the lifespan of computer hardware, in order to reduce the waste induced by the over-consumption of raw materials. This update of our new distribution takes up the basis of Emmabuntüs DE3 under Debian 11 Bullseye, and its latest changes concerning the removal of proprietary software in favour of free alternatives, like DWService replacing Teamviewer, Jami replacing Skype and the complete deletion of Adobe Flash. Emmabuntüs is a lightweight, Debian-based distribution featuring the Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. The project's latest development snapshot is based on Debian's Testing "Bullseye" branch. "This update of our new distribution takes up the basis of Emmabuntüs DE3 under Debian 11 Bullseye, and its latest changes concerning the removal of proprietary software in favor of free alternatives, like DWService replacing Teamviewer, Jami replacing Skype and the complete deletion of Adobe Flash. This version exhibits the new Ice graphic theme created by Juliette Taka, the graphic artist who realized numerous wallpapers for Debian, as well as a renovated logo, which new look was designed by Jean-Claude aka JCZ, who was also part of the Debian wallpapers projects. We want to warmly thank them here, for their outstanding graphic contribution to the Emmabuntüs DE4 distribution, and concerning both the dark and light themes. Patrick d'Emmabuntüs has announced the release of Emmabuntüs DE3-1.04, an updated build of the project's lightweight, Debian-based distribution designed primarily for refurbished computers: "The Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition update 3 1.04 (32-bit and 64-bit) based on the Debian 10.8 'Buster' distribution featuring both Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. This new update of our distribution brings an evolution of the way the different languages are supported, like the Emmabuntüs DE4, thanks to the .po file usage, as well as the removal of a number of proprietary software applications, to the benefit of free alternatives. Namely, DWService is replacing Teamviewer, Jami is replacing Skype and finally SMTube is replaced by FreeTube. We also took the opportunity of this new release to remove some obsolete software, like Adobe Flash, Jitsi desktop and Java 8, and to install new versions of Kiwix 2 and Ancestris 10." The Emmabuntüs project develops a lightweight distribution based on Debian for lower-end computers. The project's latest release is based on Debian 10.6 and features the Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. "The Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition update 3 1.0-3 (32-bit and 64-bit editions), based on the Debian 10.6 'Buster' distribution, featuring both Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. This new update of our distribution provides an OEM installation mode in the frame of our reuse campaign for all that we launched beginning of September. The following fixes and improvements have been made: addition of the OEM install mode via Calamares; addition of Warpinator; addition of the zram-tools utility; update of Multisystem 1.0451 dated 2020-10-03, with the Emmabuntüs DE 4 support and addition of a specific theme for the reuse campaign; updates of HPLip 3.20.6, Firefox ESR 78.3.0, Thunderbird 78.3.1, TurboPrint 2.50-1, VeraCrypt 1.24-Update7." The Emmabuntüs distribution has published a new development release, based on Debian's Testing development branch. The project's new release, Emmabuntüs DE4 Alpha 1, uses the LXQt desktop by default and ships with the Falkon web browser. "This new version of our distribution is built on the foundations of Emmabunüs DE3 under Debian 11 Bullseye, and is now swapping LXDE with LXQt, and support an direct install from the ISO, without the need of an additional post-install step. In order to improve the LXQt experience, we added the Falkon internet browser which allows the usage of only 1GB of RAM. We took also the opportunity of this new release to remove some obsolete software and to clean up the amount of offered software, when they were less useful, or redundant. On the other end, we introduced some help-oriented utilities like inxi/inxi-gui, and some others to help our distribution : SMTube, font-manager and mediainfo-gui.
