Fedora aims for almost complete reproducible builds |
 |
While Fedora 42 might just be on its way out the door, the distribution's developers are already laying out plans for Fedora 43. The next version of Fedora is expected to take a big step forward in supporting reproducible builds. "Over the last few releases, we changed our build infrastructure to make package builds reproducible. This is enough to reach 90%. The remaining issues need to be fixed in individual packages. After this Change, package builds are expected to be reproducible. Bugs will be filed against packages when an irreproducibility is detected. The goal is to have no fewer than 99% of package builds reproducible." Reproducible builds result in the same source code compiling into the same binary, every time. This makes it easier to spot logic errors or malicious code which tries to hide itself or behaves differently in different environments. |
