It really is an intuitive and clearly simplified operating system.
As a drawback and at first, due to its differences with common software, you may find yourself a little disoriented, since it changes the concept of desktop and usability, but in reality it is a temporary and transitory problem, since when you become a little familiar with the system, what you get is a system that is much simpler to use, more intuitive and free of most of the interferences of all kinds that traditional systems have. This clearly works in favor of the user, as soon as they become a little familiar with the new system.
Since it is free of many interferences and updates are practically automatic, the system is not only simpler, more practical and easier to use, but it is also much safer, which is an important added value.
It offers everything you need in a simplified way, but the potential and possibilities for the user are numerous, being able to add the complexity that each user decides or needs.
At the moment, there are no errors, incompatibilities or impediments that proprietary operating systems impose, forcing you to update, install or purchase them as time goes by and you need these problems to be solved. Automatic updates add value because the system is maintained in real time and permanently, without the need to download or buy what the owner of the system requires in order to keep it operational and/or with good performance. It is important that you do not have to worry about or have to search for or download updates, Zenned seems to do it for itself, without you even knowing.
For those who pursue intensive use of games, Zenned offers great possibilities, both for old games, as well as modern games, this is very difficult to find.
As it has simplified versions of the most common and used applications, it is easy and practical to use for the vast majority of users, for whom the most important thing is that it is easy, intuitive and fast. Almost all systems, like most mobile terminals, offer and have installed a large number of applications and programs that are never used by the user. This commercial strategy is aimed at dazzling the user with the number of possibilities it offers, but in reality it only causes great difficulties of use and a large number of interferences that distract and make it difficult to use the system and the hardware. In Zenned you have everything you need in a simple way and you decide if you want to use other things or expand the applications and programs. The system works in a fluid and fast way, which in proprietary systems is progressively lost and complicated, leaving it in the hands of them to decide what updates to make and how much you must pay, until they finally discard the software and force you to buy the new one, which sometimes does not even mean real improvements for the user.
Finally, I want to highlight the possibility that Zenned opens up for you if you have an old computer that you can't use because you can't install updates, or its components are obsolete. My case is that I have a Mac from 2009, which worked perfectly and was of very good quality, but I couldn't use it for years because Apple (as it does in all its versions when time passes) no longer allows updates to new software. What I did was change a solid disk and double the RAM memory, but these changes didn't solve the problem. Afterwards I installed Zenned and the computer works like the first day, it responds like a shot and smoothly. With just over 100 euros I have a quality computer back as if it were new, adding that it is much easier to use.
Conclusion:
I think that Zenned represents a paradigm shift in the use of operating systems and in their simplification, security and updating, three great advantages for the user that other systems do not offer. The drawback of its different appearance, which can be disorienting at first, is resolved by itself as soon as you use it a few times.
Finally!! Zenned is the Linux-based operating system I've been searching for. Let me be clear: I have no technical background in computers or programming. I'm simply an end user who doesn't want to deal with code or complicated features. After growing tired of the Windows ecosystem and having no interest in becoming an Apple acolyte, I found exactly what I needed in Zenned.
Zenned is simple, easy to set up, user-friendly, and minimalist—and it really works! Every update occurs automatically, so you don't need to worry about maintenance. When your computer starts, it doesn't bother you with an endless list of updates; instead, these happen quietly in the background while you work on your daily tasks.
I strongly recommend installing Zenned for a simple yet completely reliable PC experience. I also trust its creator, who has made significant contributions to Linux, programming, and application development. He’s created an operating system for everyone, whether you're an expert or a basic user like me.
Simple and clean, useful and quite intuitive. During my tests I haven't find any bug or major problem. Like someone said before me, it just works, and works fine. I read in the reviews about some technical problems, bu the experiencie using it can be described as kind, at least for someone like me, who is just a basic user. I fell the same way when browsing, in my case using firefox.
It needs work, but for now is a great choice for anyone who wants something simple but great.
You've got to be kidding! I boot up to a mostly empty screen with a few super large icons and almost no usable apps? I try to sign into my wi-fi, and my keyboard is typing unrecognizable characters I've never seen before! So I can't logon. I can't use Firefox which is only one of the two or three usable apps. I can't download any software because I can't type in my password. Is this distro for a tablet? Maybe it's meant for a child to play with, to pretend they are using a computer. I would have given it a 2 if it didn't boot up at all, but I've never experienced anything so bad. This distro is miss-named. It didn't create calm, only anxiety. I wasn't Zenned, I was Scammed.
- Truly simple to use. The installation is very intuitive, and the resulting desktop is very minimal.
- It uses a simplified version of Plasma, and Plasma is great. Flexible, stable and eye candy.
- It doesn't necessarily uses KDE apps. For example it uses pcmanfm-qt for file management, qterminal for the terminal, or VLC for multimedia, which in my opinion are more functional.
- Has access to all Arch Linux packages and the AUR. Also it has access to an additional repo that doesn't require package maintenance! Instead it builds everything automatically, which is something I have never seen in any other distro.
- It includes pamac, which is more intuitive for installing packages than in other Arch based distros that just use the terminal for that.
- I wasn't able to perceive any single bug or issue in the system. Everything seems polished.
- Common apps have their own simplified version. For example LibreOffice has a simplified version with less clutter.
- The performance is fast, like really fast. It disables by default useless desktop effects, it features the Linux Zen kernel, and has special IO optimizations similar to those in CachyOS. It has a daemon that automatically disables desktop effects when you launch full screen applications.
- It features an application, called exeCute, that simplifies launching games. For instance it can automount disc images, configure midi, and install Vulkan dlls into Wine automatically.
- Firefox is simplified too, and it comes to all short of extensions that block ads, cookies, tracking and distractions on YouTube.
- They seem so serious about the project that they even make and sell USB installers if you need them, and provide detailed info about how to build your own.
=== DOWNSIDES ===
- The design of Zenned in general is very unusual. Intuitive but unusual. It differs a lot from other distros. Probably for someone who expects a traditional desktop and is more risk adverse will prefer something more common, even when things are quickly to figure out.
- It is just starting out, and there is almost no community. The forums are simple and neat, but there's few people visiting them yet.
Zenned Linux, at first glance, looks like a fresh breeze in the world of Linux distributions, but let’s be honest, it might be trying a bit too hard to reinvent the wheel. It’s like the kid in class who insists on doing things his way, even if the classic methods are working just fine. Don’t get me wrong—Zenned does some cool things, but there’s a noticeable gap between ambition and execution.
First, the performance—sometimes it feels like Zenned is trying to run on a potato. I get that it’s a lightweight distro, but when even a quad-core processor breaks a sweat, it’s a bit concerning. Also, the user experience—let’s just say it’s not exactly user-friendly. For something marketed as easy-to-use, the interface might leave new users in a state of confusion. It's like Zenned Linux tried to be minimalistic but ended up being minimalist in a way that makes you second-guess whether the settings panel is actually working or if it’s just a really bad joke.
The documentation—oh boy. If you want a true test of your patience, try searching for answers in their manuals. It's like reading through a maze of vague references and "coming soon" placeholders. It’s almost like they’re hoping you’ll give up and just get frustrated enough to install Ubuntu instead.
But, to be fair, Zenned Linux does have potential. It’s a project that seems to have heart but needs some solid updates and refinement. It could seriously benefit from better optimization and making things more intuitive for users who just want their system to work out of the box.
Suggestions for improvement:
Boost performance: The distro needs to be optimized for modern hardware so that it doesn't feel like you're running on outdated technology.
Improve user interface: Simplify the user experience—ease of use shouldn’t feel like an academic challenge.
Revamp the documentation: No one should feel like they’re solving a mystery when searching for help.
Polish the community: The user community seems to be a bit niche, which is fine, but engaging with a broader audience and fostering better support would make a huge difference.
So yeah, Zenned Linux—cool concept, but not quite there yet. You’ve got the potential, just don’t get too caught up in trying to be the next big thing and forget the basics.
