My primary machine (Core i3) runs Fedora 28 and it's fine, but I spend most of my computing time on my old Core 2 Duo running Refracta. Originally, I just intended to upgrade the OS on my spare machine; I guess I got hooked on the magic. Anyway, real time performance is comparable since Refracta is amazing on resources.
I just made the easiest and most precise installation I have ever made in my life.
The power of Debian, the freedom to choose an init system, less than half the resources to boot, and the easiness of having OpenRC keeping an eye on the system's services and daemons. What else can anyone ever ask from linux?
This is the dream come true. Two years ago nobody really believed this was possible. And whatever happened with Debian live installer? It never worked? Take some lessons from Refracta!
A friend handed me a CD... "Boot this Linux" !
A CD ? Oh no, he's discovered an old DSL, Puppy, or some other mini-distro.
I've been so busy trying to get the latest/greatest gizmo-distro to boot with grubworm version 999,
and another distro to print on a new printer, and another to stop demanding a password at every
click of a mouse, and,,, its a long list !
So... I've never heard of "Devuan" or "Refracta", so it was a gee-whizz experience.
The CD was marked 64-bit, so my first go was a cheapo Dell AMD laptop - WOW - perfect.
Next was a HP with 4gb ram & big screen - WOW - perfect.
The third test was an IBM think-thing with a USB-CD (no DVD) drive - (no WOW), but perfect.
Fourth test was 27" iMac. - no boot - Acts like CD was not recognized.
Oh well, 3 outta 4 is my highest score to date.
I have over a dozen running distros, none of which have ever scored 4 outta 4.
I am so impressed that the 2018 version 9 is now down-loading, and I can't wait.
It could be a 10 !
I installed Refracta on my main PC, dual boot with Windows 7 as a systemd-free alternative for the now
sadly discontinued Manjaro-OpenRC.
It installed in a short time with a installler that gave me the needed options and worked out of the box.
Until now I found every bit of software I was looking for and had it easily installed with the Synaptic-Manager.
So my rating: 10 out of 10! :-)
