This is like meeting up with a old friend. WiFi works at the start. Even in Live Mode. In fact, I've never had a problem with WiFi on PCLinuxOS going back 10 years. (WifFi never woks for me with any BSD distro)
The only reason I stopped using PC was they dropped dropped Gnome 2. I returned when they offered Mate, and it's great to be back.
PCLinux is fast, simple, stable, and powerful. A lot like Linux Lite, my other favorite distro. You can't go wrong with those two, or Mint.

I have it on my pc's almost from the beginning of the distro. It had it's up- and downperiods but I have versions of PCLOS on partitions and I still like it very much.
It is stable, it looks fine, more applications run than in a lot of other distro's.
It is simpel to use the old Grub (with graphical UI) so I can switch distro's via that way.
Keep up the great work Houston!
I'll keep it when it stays this way!

I've used it since January 2007. It's very stable and easy to use. Most of the time everything just works and special configuration isn't usually needed. Continuously upgraded so no need for periodic re-installs - Only two special exceptions required me to reinstall: a one-off rebase in 2010 before the team learned how to upgrade the toolchain, and a move to 64-bit in 2012.
Pros - it just works and the lead developer is very responsive when something goes wrong for one user, unless that user is really demanding too much or trying to do something silly.
Cons - I can't think of any. Maybe I've been using it too long!

I've been running PCLINUXOS for nearly ten years. PCLINUXOS with the KDE plasma desktop is HANDS DOWN THE VERY BEST Distro - I have installed and used nearly all the other alternatives. Among other things, PCLINUX OS did not sell out and implement systemd - it still runs off standard init. The folks who manage the distro are online everyday, and always willing to provide FAST assistance if you run into a problem.
I will never go back to another distro.

I've been using PCLinuxOS for many years on most of the machines in my home. It is the best overall distro I have ever used, and I especially like the ability to make .iso backups with MyLiveCD. It has saved my bacon many times. I use the Mate version, only because I don't need most of the apps available on the KDE version. In my experience, the KDE version also tends to be a little bit fragile on the older machines I use compared to Mate.. I have tried other distros, including the 'most popular' ones, but I always come back to PCLOS. The forum support is outstanding.

One of the most trouble free linux distributions available. it is rock solid and performs flawlessly as long as you follow the recommended method of installing packages and updating the system. Install once and keep using it as it is a semi rolling distribution.
A vast selection of variety of software (open source or otherwise) is available in their repository.

After using for about 2 hours, I have decided to move on. I can't get past the fact that they have grouped a "set" of programs together with the installation of a desktop environment. You can't simply have a vanilla LXQt desktop install. You have to use (the only one available) task-lxqt which will install a whole mess of bloat. You can't even remove a component of the "task-lxqt" such as the default sound/video player w/o it also removing the task-lxqt (removing the entire desktop environment as well.) They have botched up the menu for lxqt as well managing to have the same items appear on mulitple tiers of the menu. Everything (almost) worked out of the box, including my wifi. I don't own anything nvidia, and it compiled and inserted nvidia items and they were marked active. This distro may be geared towards someone who has never owned or used a computer before, but when you make things this automatic you end up with so many things that are not needed. There are easer, lighter, better distros out there that don't try to "fix" things that are not broken. I would not recommend this in it's current state to anyone for any purpose. The positives: The o/s was easy to install, and the programs that I added installed and ran properly. It seems fairly responsive as well. The negatives: Can't install vanilla desktop environments, the update caused me to have 2x volume icons (one active / one inactive) for two different sound servers (this was easy enough to fix, but a new user may have trouble trying ot figure this out.) Very bloated for the "mini" iso. Had too much additional unwanted programs included.

On my YouTube channel, I gave this my 'Distro of 2019' accolade.
I use archlinux, void, opensuse, fedora, debian, gentoo, and ubuntu variants daily.
BUT this is such an easy, nice, robust, and well put-together distro that it can be used by anyone. Born of mandrake/mandriva, it is easy to see why it is so good.
Cannot be faulted, and if you haven't tried it yet you SHOULD!!!
BUT steer away from virtual environments it NEEDS a real install, and to be used as the main environment

As a since 2007 PCLinuxOS user I take all plusses for granted.
The only problems for those last 12 years? Hardware failures.
The minus are all in the eyes of the beholder and mostly solved within a few forum sessions.
Have to say the inclusion of some special WiFi drivers, rtl8821cu and rtl8882bu in the Synaptic package manager and the possibllity to still install Nvidia340 (from the extra retro section in Synaptic) on kernel 5.2.15 makes me a happy camper.
Why Ktorrent is often crashing when checking downloaded iso's is still a riddle to me, but qBittorrent does the trick.
Small exerpt of my PCLinuxOS trip ;)

PRO: The ISO writes directly to USB flash drive using dd, yay!
PRO: The USB flash drive with the 2019.09 ISO written to it using dd boots flawlessly (on my machines).
PRO: PCLinuxOS 2019.09 USB flash drive auto-boots correctly (on my machines) in BIOS vs. UEFI mode.
PRO: The nVidia driver is back in the ISO for 2019.09, yay; cuz nouveau doesn't always work right with my card.
CON: Because I know a tiny bit (a very tiny bit) about Linux and partitioning properly (for BIOS vs. UEFI) I have no trouble with it. In my greater-than-0 but less-than-1 knowledge-level estimation, the partitioning phase of the installation could use some info-providing attention. Even though information regarding partitioning for UEFI in Linux is available on the Internet, the total newbie could get lost here easily.
PRO: No systemd, yay!
PRO: Kernel 5.2.15, yay!
PRO: KDE Plasma 5.16.5, yay!

i can't rate this distro highly enough. It has been supported very well since its inception and is set up for what are "everyday" users - users who just want to be able to fire up the box in the morning and get to work and not have to worry about getting overrun by a bunch of viruses, trojans, back doors, front doors and the like.
Then there is the Forum section whose users are very polite and helpful. Could you ask for a nicer place to ask questions and get help? i think not.
Of course, since this is the latest version, installation is fast and easy.
Overall, it does what it is supposed to do - provide a hassle-free OS environment with which to accomplish my daily work.
Have a great day!

An extremely friendly and helpful forum.
PCLOSCloud service for data storage.
PCLOSMail with zero spam.
PCLOS ImagStor, Photo storage bank.
PCLinuxOS Magazine, published monthly.
PCLOS Talk/Chatrooms, chat live with users.
The latest offering 2019.9 is very solid and fast to install.
The choice of desktops and WM's is impressive.
KDE, Mate and Xfce are official iso's, and
community versions offer others like Trinity,
Openbox, LXDE, LXQT, and various mini versions too.
I have used PCLinuxOS since the early 2000's and
I'm still using it today. It's dependable, secure, and SystemD free.
Hard to believe in this day and age.

This is one of the easiest, straight forward distros to install. It work on every piece of hardware that I have, two laptops and two pc; which are Dell hand me down from work, about 5 to 7 years old.
I like that as you install it, asks you want to use the whole drive and automatically partitions the drive into root, swap and home partition.
Pretty much up to date with recent kernels although never too new to create problems.
It just works and it has plenty of different packages in their repositories.
Mate is my desktop of choice.
I am sure it will not work with every piece of hardware out there, but give it a try.

Cons: Nothing worth writing about.

PCLinuxOS has been a favorite of mine since back in the day when Texstar first made it available. Wasn't long after it was introduced that it climbed to number one on DW's page hit rankings and stayed there a considerable amount of time. Since then, to the present day, it continues to improve on its winning formula, with the latest 2019.09 Mate' release (my personal favorite DE) upholding that long standing tradition.
If you're new to the world of desktop Linux (we all were at one time) PCLinuxOS is an excellent choice as a polished introduction to what the excitement is all about - a distro you simply won't go wrong with.
If, like me, you've been a desktop Linux fan for a very long time and you're looking for something you can simply install and put to work right out of the box, PCLinuxOS precisely fits that requirement as well.
This newest version, after just a brief time with it, is a 'Keeper' in every regard! Give it a try and see for yourself!

A reliable Semi-rolling linux distribution with plenty of third-party applications available by default in their repository plus a very modest list of free software. Full LibreOffice with extra fonts and more, easy to upgrade to a newer versions just by a few clicks. There are two official desktops available to download and install in addition, few more community supported desktops.
I have installed the "Mate" version on one of my laptops since 2016, I regularly update it and I have the latest packages running without any issues. Fantastic!

I've gone crazy between different distributions and now it's time to ponder why I kept coming back to PCLOS and why I installed this OS on all machines finally. In a nutshell: The installation is understandable, although not as excellent as with the Calamares installer. But once the system is installed, it just works, it's stable. The whole concept for me (I work in the education sector in Europe) is simple, traditional (I like it that way) and very functional. For many years PCLinuxOS has been pursuing an end-to-end concept. The configuration center is effective, the system seems secure and trustworthy, and the ability to tune in to local servers through Synaptic increases speed immensely. The community is helpful. In summary: It is worth thinking through some idiosyncratic decisions and learning to understand this system. You will be rewarded with a traditional, outspoken familiar Linux experience.

I like this distro and the implementation of kde5 it comes with. The Mate spin is also very nice. Not hard to get this into daily driver running shape. You might need to download the latest nvidia from synaptic (just search for nvidia), and you might want to change your workgroup to "WORKGROUP" if you're like me, the default samba doesn't want to let dolphin see my network shares (it comes with "MYGROUP" or something in smb.conf. Just edit smb.conf, and below that line in GLOBAL add "client max protocol = NT1" and then "name resolve order = bcast lmhosts host wins" . That seems to always fix samba for desktop file manager network discovery and browsing in any new linux install for me. This is a great looking and performing OS, I'm enjoying it. Debian 10, and Zorin are other nice choices!

Tried PCLinuxOS and the installation from live DVD wend smoothly. Installed to the solid state drive on my HP Folio and was working well. KDE Plasma desktop was easy to customize. As expected the first time wifi was available a bunch of updates installed and it seemed to successfully download and install whatever it needed. I was happy with everything except the login screen and thought this was going to be a very positive review. The login screen was awkward but the option in the menu to login automatically seemed like it should bypass that inconvenience. After changing that the computer just boots to a black screen with a cursor. No desktop loads. Mouse buttons do nothing. Cursor moves around on a blank screen. Tried several things. Ctrl Alt Del brought up the shutdown screen. Tried everything from there and could only shutdown or go back to a black screen and cursor. The other boot menu option for recovery mode brought up a command line. If I knew what to do from the command line I wouldn't be installing a distro with a desktop. Typed login from the command line. then password. All that did was change the glop ahead of the cursor. Types help. Got a screen full of stuff that didn't appear to have any commends that would help. Could find references to this black screen problem on line but solutions offered were mostly written in some kind of geek code.

LOVE this distro! I have hopped for years, I've finally found a home!! I've seen reviewers complain about NVIDIA issues, I've had no problems getting mine setup. Sounds like user error to me, but since we don't know what they did or how they did it, we'll never know. Remember to blacklist the nouveau driver first then install the NVIDIA drivers - all through synaptic.
Now, I DID have some wonkiness when installing to my laptop which is an AMD with the integrated Volcano chip. It works, but I had a few bumps in the road. That's the only reason I give this a 9 instead of a 10. WELL DONE DISTRO!

Only giving 3 out of 10 because I still enjoy the 2014 Full Monty Edition.
This one (2019.06) unfortunately did not perform at all. The installer quit twice at two different stages of install without a single message on the error. The Live System still continued to run, though, like nothing happened. So, each time I just restarted the installation program and the process. The the installer quit for the third time, this time with an error message. But that was enough already, I made up my mind about trying.
Hope for better luck next time!

This is my preferred main distro that just works. I have installed quite a bunch of different distros based on different base systems (Arch, Debian, Ubuntu, etc) but PCLinuxOS offers the best balance between uptodate software as a rolling release and stability with a traditional upgrade policy. New versions are often delivered in a test repository that can be easily activated.

Everything works perfectly on my 2011 dell latitude laptop E5420 (cpu i5-2520M), also the printer-scanner hp. Great Control Center!
The laptop is Super Fast (with the standard kde desktop)!
The installation is way quicker with respect to ubuntu.
The system is very reactive.
Minimal maintenance efforts thanks to the rolling release packages.
Exceptionally stable
The 2019 version of PCLinuxOS (Release date: May 2019) is superb!

This is my goto main distro that works. I have used/tried many different distros with different base systems,Manjaro, Mint, Mx, Antegros, Unbunto, Solus, etc. and PCLinuxOS uptodates software as a rolling release and stability with a normal upgrade policy. You can find newer versons in a test repository . When I installed PclinuxOs everything works out of the box. WiFi works , Graphics Card works (MSI) ,
Nvidia drivers are already loaded in the Base Release, so no worries there. It is a RPM release, but
feels like a Debian Distro . I find it to be very stable , so I will continue run it . When I installed PclinuxOs , not all the packages download at first pass , so when it is done downloading , answer
no if you want to ignore packages not downloaded , it will go back and try again , and it has worked
for me every time ,

No, it's not stable. The default kernel is 4.16, unsupported already, so I installed other and the system did't boot It did on 4.16 only. It's not out of the box, it doesn't support Broadcom out of the box, network manager is very unfriendly sincce YOU must change netork interface which has to be connected by default, so even if the driver is installed correctly you have no connection. It's set up performance governor by dfault, again it's not a good decision, my own opinion btw.
Generally nice plasma, nice system but too many things to twick and sometimes crashes completely after updates.

Actually PCLinux is at 2019.03, a full release with either KDE's Plasma 5 or Mate.
It originated in the Mandrake distribution and took images from Mandriva.
I started with Mandriva 2006 about the same time that PCLinuxOS was starting
its path into the future. It is still here 13 years later while Mandriva was unable
to produce a usable(for me) version after 2010.2 and folded around 2012.
Mageia and Open Mandriva are Mandriva successors and use systemd.
But I used PCLinuxOS in 2014 shifted to Mageia and then back to PCLinuxOS
in 2016.03 version. Stuck with PCLinuxOS64 though the very rough transition
from KDE's Plasma 4 to KDE's Plasma 5 though I took hard looks at Trinity
and Mate then.
The 2019.03 KDE 5 PCLinuxOS64 is fine with almost all of the tools I have
used over the last 13 years. Besides PCLinuxOS I have used besides the
tools mentioned above lots of versions of Fedora, Knoppix and helped people
with Ubuntu. Bought Partition Magic to do my last install of PCLinux on a late
model Dell Inspiron and to avoid the searching through Windows 10 for
Microsloth's partition editor.

I am using PCLinuxOS KDE since December 2017 and it works fine ─ although some initial challenges because of its unusual ways to do some things, such as separate apps / scripts for system updates (Synaptic), LibreOffice (LOmanager) and language management.
The use of APT-RPM and Synaptic is not so weird, if you remember that both were developed by RPM-based distro Conectiva, later mixed with Mandrake to become Mandriva.
There are no update warnings (except for LibreOffice, at the top right corner), so you should open Synaptic daily or each few days, ─ and it is strongly recommended not to stay more than a week without doing so.
When I did install it, default User / Groups ID (UID / GID) where 500:500, so be aware to change it, ─ in the first boot + configurations, ─ if you will dualboot other distros, which nowadays use 1000:1000, for files read / write compatibility.
Duality of Control Center vs. KDE System settings was not a big surprise, since some other distros also have it, ─ YaST2 is a "control center", in openSUSE, ─ and I already had installed Mageia 1 year before.
My experience dualbooting PCLinuxOS and Mageia (and others) helped to understand better both distros, because I couldn't try Mandrake / Mandriva in their old days.

It has always been my go to Distro. I find it to be very useful in disk and boot repair..Yes I know there may be some a little better out there. but Im a little complainant. When friend wants to try linux, I give them a pclinux disk and now also a mxlinux one also....and nine out ten times they give the latter back. thus my rating..NOW the only problem i have ever had, was with the sound. And to find out it was because of the cheap laptops i was buying.....OK the wish list......I truly wish they would develop a Gnome desktop.I would love to see what they would come up with... Thank you for the great distro.....JT

I have been using PCLinuxOS distributions for more than 10 years without issues on lots of (widely) different hardware, while the update model has served for seamlessly keeping up to date on both kernels and applications.
With a responsive maintainer / packager team and a great support forum, it is highly recommended for both new and experienced users.

Works well, but has driver problem with my USB plug-in WiFi module. Via cable I was able to connect to the Net.
Maybe in the next update the guys will solve this.
Anyway looks like a well done system.

Very stable.
Rolling distribution, most of the time the latest software
Large repository of software.
Does take a bit of a learning curve.
But once you get through the learning curve then I must say, very user friendly, stable and works well so-far

I started with PcLinux 0.92 and fell in love with it. I used PcLinux exclusively until one of the releases in 2010 when I began having issues. I still recommended it to all new users as the Mandriva control center is still the best GUI hardware/software configuration utility found in Linux. I have also always found the package management system flawlessly stable unlike Mandriva or any of the other forks that still use the old Mandriva package management system.
switched from Pclinux for many years to another distro and only recently came back to a pleasant surprise. Most if not all of the issues that caused me to move away seem to no longer exist and I find myself very satisfied.
I have one firm requirement that is no Systemd which PcLinux meets.
I also prefer enlightenment and PcLinux has E18 (which to me was the last good release of that DE) as well as around a dozen ready made themes for download which is a major plus.
All in all I haven't had any software I've installed through the package manager fail to start or crash at any point, no Systemd, and the DE I prefer is available and also runs flawlessly.
I gave a rating of 8 rather than 10 simply because in my opinion the repo could have more software available.

Returned to PCLOS a month ago after a number of years using *buntu derivatives, due to a desire to be rid of systemd and some of the other "innovations" in that family of distros. PCLOS was the first Linux distro that I used regularly, about 10 years ago, but I'd moved away from Linux for a few years due to needing Windows for work.
For my return to PCLOS, I adopted the community version based on Xfce and had no trouble getting it working on my hardware. What few problems I encountered were easily solvable using the PCLOS forum, which as always is very helpful.
There was a time this distro was what Ubuntu or Mint is now, the "go-to" distro that everyone recommends. It's not the hot flavor of the month anymore, but it is what it always has been--very good, very reliable, easy to use, and easy to troubleshoot. If you want your Linux to "just work," PCLOS is an excellent choice. It's been so good to me that I've zapped my Windows and Mint installs off my laptop's SSD and gone with this as my sole OS. Hello again, old friend...

I might try it again. The last version I used was 2009.2, which was -very- good. Back then, PCLOS offered many DE spins (Gnome, LXDE, XFCE, etc). I never liked the 'juvenile' KDE, and still hate it.
When I updated my system back in '09, Bill tried to implement BFS (Brain F*ck Scheduler) but that really 'screwed' the OS stability. Let's say it was a 'preview' of what systemd would do to Linux. By the time they removed BFS and went back to the standard kernel, I had already quit using PCLOS.
It has the potential to be a top 10 again, if they'll stop worshipping KDE. I'd also prefer to see ZFS.

PCLinuxOS Community XFCE (4.12.4)
Pros:
No systemd. Uses SysVinit
Rolling distro
RPM based destro with Debian installer
Easy kernel install through Synaptic
Installs on 64 bit UEFI/efi systems fine, AMD or Intel, provided the disk is MBR and not GPT.
Install on MBR mapped drives only. Installing on GPT mapped drives could make the drive unbootable, blow-up other OSes, delete partitions, hang on shutdown, reboot on shutdown, etc.
Do not assign a boot password during install as you will then not be able to initiate the stage 2 installer after rebooting.
Install in Synaptic Package Manager:
grub2splash to change login/shutdown Plymouth splash picture
xfce4-whisker-menu-plugin for the Whisker menu
Mate-themes for the BlackMATE theme
gdm-more-themes
xfce-theme-manager
xfwm4-themes
ristretto - photo viewer
grub-customizer if you do not like the PCLOS grub menu
advert-block for hosts files install
cronjob-fstrim for ssd fstrim
You'll want to run "Configure Your Computer" in the control panel settings to add users, setup the firewall, printers and scanners; activate network sharing, etc.
*** Can install numerous Internet browsers: Brave, Firefox, Cyberfox, Waterfox, Iridium, Opera, Vivaldi, Pale Moon, and many others. ***
Install Advert-blocker to install host files.
Xfce allows a menu search box at the bottom left (like W10). Desktops opened apps all show up on the taskbar (like KDE). USB sticks automount when inserted and automatically opens a finder window.
Good selection of icons - Numix, Nutrix, iOS, Emerald, Vivacious, Vibrancy, Elementary, Dalisha, etc. (I prefer skeuomorphic icons, though.)
Download and run the Etcher-electron.AppImage toburn the installer iso to an USB stick. When burning DVDs use 8x speed, or slower.

Annoyed by outdated packages and new installations after a few months? Deterred by gigabytes of updates that end in black screens or system freezes in some of the rolling release distros? You want a system that simply works and lets the user do his work without fiddling around? Out of the box experience? Security? An OS that serves your need is this one. Really well done, PCLinuxOS.

Review for the Xfce-version:
A few years ago I tried PCLinuxOS as a newbie, but without the necessary consequence to learn something about it and this produced some issues. Now, a few years later and more experienced in the Linux Universe I have tried PCLOS again and I am really happy. I would not praise the installation as to be optimal, but it is not too complicated. There are few tools to make the start quite user-friendly (Addlocale, Libreoffice Manager), but I can easily imagine to make it better.
Once installed PCLOS shines in everyday life. This OS is pretty lean and reliable. Great hardware support ootb. Good forum, good documentation. Via Synaptic and the change to the repository in the home country all updates are fast, really fast. Good amount of software. The Control Center is fine and the security setup (especially the firewall) offers a good feeling of security. The latest release of firejail is in the repos. It looks like that no system-wide "sudo" and no "systemd" are right now a good choice to avoid the problems which are discussed right now (though I am sure that all the smart guys working on "sudo" and "systemd" will fix the existing problems). I can not praise enough how speedy the latest stable kernel release is added to the repo. It looks like that the developers know what they are doing - regular updates but not every hour, and not the tsunami updates I know from other rolling release distros. In other words: fast bleeding edge if it is necessary, waiting if it is adviseable. This philosophy results in great stability. But the user has to be willing to learn a little bit, but this is not difficult (even I did it!).
Last but not least it has to be said that the main developer called "Texstar" (Bill Reynolds) is a true genius. All the best to PCLinusOS!

What's not to like.
I have used PCLinuxOS since 2004 having followed the author, "Texstar" from mandrake where he did RPM's.
I have converted dozens of people to and recommended hundreds to this distribution since then.
Some people using virtual installs and exotic hardware have had some problems at times, but it's been my experience that is few and far between. The forum is a good place to get help.
PCLinuxOS has been in the top 20 for over 16 years. I'm not sure why it has dropped in the 20's and 30's in the last year as it is a fully complete system that makes transitions from windows (using KDE) almost transparent.
NOTE: Gamers have the most problems on Linux, although some run under emulation.
But for the average person, PCLinuxOS is a joy to use.
Add a second drive, if possible, and try it out and use dual boot. And have fun.

After PCLinuxOS MATE bombed last year trying to install it, I tried again with a newer version. It is still buggy. Plus, neither the MATE nor the KDE versions would read my flash drive folders correctly. Several of the folders were "unreadable" or lacked the correct "permissions". I have never had this problem with a flash drive with any of dozens of distros I have tried in the past 12 years. It is rather obvious that PCLinuxOS is no longer the distro it was once several years ago. Neither are many other distros. It is definitely not the "best linux distro" anymore. Very, very sad.

I was running three different Linux distros (PCLinuxOS, Fedora and Refracta) on three separate machines here before December. Then I got enough free time to check out some alternatives to upgrading to the new Fedora, and as a result--all my boxes now run only PCLinuxOS. This KDE Plasma distribution really works good (even on my finicky HP PC).

This seems to be a decent distro. I like the MATE desktop with the dark gray menus.
However, installation is not that easy and the LIVE desktop takes too long to load. Rebooting after installation is also a pain, it takes so looong.
I give it a 5 because seems sudo is NOT enabled by default. It says "sudo command not found" when trying to run sudo apt-get update.
You have to first run apt-get install sudo.

I don't get it how some people have so much trouble with PCLinuxOS. I just installed it last weekend on yet another cheap laptop I got off ebay, and it just works. I give old laptops with pclos installed to family who don't need alot of computer, and since 2015 or so, even problematic broadcom wifi works first time. Older HP, Dell and lenovo laptops, NO problem! My older desktop takes 20 minutes for a re-install if I screw something up bad enough that I need to, and that's with 3 hard drives, and never lost a partition or a file. I haven't tried any other distros for a few years, because pclos just works!
Pros- No systemd! Fairly up to date community releases in KDE, XFCE, LXDE, some more I'm forgetting. Rolling release but packages are vetted before hitting the repositories, so no "bleeding edge" problems if you aren't in the "testing" repository!
Cons- Nobody's actually holding your hand, and keeping a puppy handy if you need a safe space while trying to install with arcane hardware or other requirements- but then again, somebody might, just ask in the excellent forums!
More Pros- The aforementioned excellent forums! And the excellent monthly magazine.

I saw intel_pstate governor is by default performance, I changed to powersave but the fan
still work like crazy. The rest looks promising but these few bugs are very annoying.

I have been trying PCLOS since version 2014.12, but everything I got was deception because it simply refused to install in my old hardware (Intel Atom D2500 CPU with NM10 chipset and DDR3 RAM). For my surprise, it rejected even a modern hardware based on AMD A320 chipset with A-9600 CPU and DDR4 RAM...
Curiously, the ONLY version that run on my PC was a `Br´ (localized in Brazilian Portuguese with br-abnt2 keymap for the keyboard) found in the site https://sourceforge.net/projects/pclinuxosbr/files/?source=navbar . By the way, MANY other distros had zero problem to install and run like a champ in my hardware (both Intel and AMD), including SparkyLinux, Tails, Kali, Mint, MX, SolydX, Salix, Gecko, Fedora, and Stella. So I think PCLOS is a little bit problematic.
Rating it `5´ out of 10 is in respect to the hard work done by PCLOS devs and collaborators. I will keep an eye on this project because it has potential to become a serious contendor for userfriendly desktop systems like Mac OS X and Windows 7/10. If it had a brilliant hardware recognition capability and sane defaults, it could compete with MX Linux itself. (No kidding! :)

Over the past 15 years I've tried a ton of distros with all sorts of desktops but the one I have on my main pc is PCLinuxOS KDE. Why? I love the fact that this distro is a rolling release and that the KDE Plasma desktop is being actively developed. It's very stable and can be customized to the nth degree. There are some things about PCLinuxOS that are dated, like the installer and its small sized program repository, but this distro has run like a champ for me for many years and has met all my needs. I firmly believe PCLinuxOS deserves more love than it gets. Yes, it is one of the senior citizens in the Linux world, but it runs great. Try it, you might just fall in love with it as I did.

I've been running this distro in one form or another since 2006, and aside from major updates (such as KDE Plasma 5), it has been rock solid and reliable with a rolling release model that doesn't require frequent repaves to upgrade. Previously, I'd been using Ubuntu, but the erosion of security with its now very Windows-like escalation of privilege and the upgrade cycle that always seemed to break things left me wanting something different. It also has a very active and helpful community that welcomes Linux users of all experience levels. PCLOS is now the day-to-day OS for my desktop at home.

Der Slogan "Keep it simple" passt genau.

This is a fantastic all-round OSand has been designed with the home user in mind. By that I mean that's it's rock-solid in reliability and includes meany handy utilities to help you do things. It's also the only Linux ditro I've come across that plays a login sound by default and it's the only distro running KDE where after sleeping my laptop trackpad still works.
It's a rolling release which means you won't have to erase and re-install the OS everytime an major upgrade is released.
It's system-d free which means it does things the Linux way and is therefore more secure. System-d is not only very complex and monolitihc but it potentially renders your system less-secure in that a hacker just needs to target a flaw in system-d and they basically can bring the entire system down, whereas in a system like PCLinuxOS which uses individual programmes to control system components and services, it makes it a lot harder to hack.
PCLinux puts an emphasis on using a GUI to find and install software, which is nice as it doesn't force you to use the command line. You can still download any rpm from the internet and manaully install it, and there is even a GUI available to do that in the repo, or you can use the command line.
You can tell the developer is a veteran and knows his stuff. In my opinion this is how all Linux distros should be because you're grandmother could use this, it's so easy. It basically gets out of the way and provides you with a solid, fast, easy-to-use operating system.
I find most other distros eventally either become unrelaible after a while or get stuck on old software whereas PCLiuxOS stays relaible but also gets app updates. Of course they don't update the apps every 5 minutes like Arch, but also not only every 5 years like other LTS ditros. They have a nice balance.
Highly recommended for home users who want no-nonsense reliable computing.

PC Linux OS is a really surprising distro. Having tried some others like Manjaro, Mint and Puppy on old computers, it really runs fast and is super stable! I could say it's even more beginner-friendly than Mint, because it contains in one package source everything you need, while in the Ubuntu family you must make some fine-tuning, taking care about some not so stable (or even unsafe) sources.
Even if in their (creepy) website they say you need a minimum of 2 gb of RAM for running their official flavors (Plasma and Mate), you can download a community build (it's what I did), like XFCE, which runs on older PCs.
The folks in the discussion forums are more eagerly to help then what I experienced with Mint or Manjaro.
For me, the best distro, even for beginners and old machines. And without systemd!

Well, this seems to be the Linux communities best kept secret, I've been a Linux user since 2007 when the 'buntus' made it popular and I've tried a million and one distros since, but had never heard of PCLinuxOS :(
I gave it a whirl in a VM as I generally do to make sure it runs and isn't totally awful, and within ten minutes I chose to install it on real hardware.
This distro is superb, it looks great (I'm using XFCE), the workflow makes absolute sense, and it is insanely fast on an old HP ProBook 6460b with i5 and 16Gb RAM.
I have only been using it for 24hrs, but I am very confident that I will install it on my main driver very soon as it really is that good, MX Linux has been on there for three years, but this edges it for workflow, it just seems 'natural'.
I'll give it a week or so to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious, but so far it looks great.

I am not a fan of systemd so I tried several recent releases of PCLinuxOS on an Asus E402N (32GB EMMC, 4GB RAM). I had to give up after losing many hours surfing and fiddling because it would apparentlly not install on EMMS drives despite the many available tweaks I tried . The Live version works well however, except for some annoying display glitches in Emacs. Slackware took half a day to install and did not boot, though the Live version with KDE runs fine. So 2 days ago I finally installed Debian Stretch (featuring the infamous systemd) and it installed with minor issues (systemd only found /dev/root after a few attempts and stubbornly wanted to install unplugged HD entries from my customized fstab). Removing those entries solved the problem and it has been running fine till now. This is only my experience so far and does not mean that you would have any problem installing PCLinuxOS or Slackware on a non EMMC laptop.

I have used this Linux distro ever since I left Windows. It's been solid throughout the years, one great simple distro. The default DE is KDE Plasma 5, but I use the Xfce display manager option as I like it's simple light weight style. Other DEs are Cinnamon, Enlightenment, LXDE, MATE, Trinity, and Xfce.
I moved over to the 64 bit version about 6 year ago when I finally got a refurbished Lenovo T420. Installation and setting up was smooth with no hassles. It automatically sorted my internet (even the back-up cellphone modem), and the Canon printer/copier/scanner was just download the driver from the synaptic package manager, let it install, and off you go.. How they do that I don't know.
PROS: Everything just seems to work.
A rolling release the upgrading is simple through synaptics -- 3 clicks and done, new software wanted -- the same. Software choices are vast -- almost awesome. The friendly forum is a pleasure to visit. They may not always fix everyone's problems but they do know much, and fix most problems, plus they are a friendly and informative crowd. There are now 9 listed languages on the forum so your not stuck in a 'just English' language forum if that's not you native tongue.
After struggling with Windows 8 and the never ending update/upgrade/rebooting PCLinux is just so simple.
CONS: err none! Overall I really can't fault PCLinuxOS. :-)

Can't say I'm enamoured with this distro.
In the installer, it always crashes in virtualbox (and vmware/esx). If you are evaluating distros for use on an enterprise level, can I say it's not good when it can't get past installing a boot loader.
Looking at their forums this issue of:
***The "draklive-install" program has crashed with the following error:
open2: exec of /mnt/install/bin/grub2-mkpasswd-pbkdf2 failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/bootloader.pm line 1827.***
Crashing has been going on for over a year (see forums).
As a heads-up I would beware of installing this on a machine with other OSs
This was pclinuxos x64 mate.

2018.1 Xfce Community Edition, no version selection for 2018.1, ignore the "apt" version selection.
Pros: LOVE the Xfce community edition, whoever does it does a great job, needs a few packages removed or added here and there but so does every distro. If the Xfce GUI settings are not your cup of tea, it can be tuned to taste. PCLOS has mulitmedia and browser choices other distros don't, that's a huge plus. If you're addicted to the latest kernel, they're easy to add or remove, there's a good choice of old/new/LTS/latest stable. RPM distro that has incorporated apt package management, works remarkable well. Lots of user friendly settings and wizard-like system tweakers, converted MS users will feel at home.
Cons: The only one I can think of, is sadly they have a smallish testing team, so the occasional breakage or bug slips through the cracks, not often, but it happens.
Overall, PCLOS has been around for ages, and it does what it's supposed to. I prefer the Xfce desktop because it's simple, light, and easily customized, more complicated and 'fat' desktops are more prone to problems.
Thanks for reading my review.

After my old laptop (HP Pavilion something, with processor AMD Turion 64-bit – 4 gb ram – 320 gb hd - nVIDIA graphics card and wi-fi), became almost unusable from viruses (until then, win7 was the operating system of this laptop), PCLOS was the only distro (tested ubuntu, lubuntu, opensuse, and others), which recognized the whole hardware and I was able to work again on it. That time (April 2013) used the LXDE version.
Now in my new laptop (i3 5010u – 8gb ram – 500 gb hd), installed PCLOS MATE 64-bit, since July 2016 and working without any problem up to today. Very stable, new kernels installed when available (now running 4.16.5 and I have also 4.16.4, 4.9.92 and 4.9.87 for testing) and not any heat detected. Installed also in my netbook (intel Atom N2600 – 2 gb ram – 320 gb hd), MATE 64-bit, since September 2017. Running well in this machine, too. Not any problem during installation of the PCLOS. Not spent to much time to customize to my needs and install greek language. I am not using any extra repositories other than the PCLOS itself. Hibernation working good (sometimes the laptop working for 10-15 days without shut it down), bluetooth ok (my two cell phones connected and send and receive photos). With ddCopy, I am able to make live usb with any distro I want for testing, very easy.
Started my Linux life in 2008 with ubuntu, but after few years (2012) stopped using it due to problems (mainly with wi-fi every time a new version installed - I use only laptops, not desktops). Wired internet worked ok (sometimes, even wired internet not worked with ubuntu) but wireless, not worked at all. This thing never happened with PCLOS.
No cons. I have stopped looking for the proper distro when found PCLOS and recommend it to everyone, new or experienced Linux user.

Pros: Very stable. No problems. The desktop is very intuitive and logical. It is easy to work with. Help is available if there are any questions about how things can or should be done.
Cons: It is very stable. Not a lot of improvements. There are few problems, therefore not much discussion about it. There is little need for fancy new features, because it does what it is supposed to do.

Pros: Very useful programs, nice layout
Cons: Wouldn't install, you can - but with tricks.
some programs don't keep their settings, such as "Double Commander" doesn't keep colours, and other settings.
Overall usable - but only just !
I was talking about the LXDE flavour.....
It's such a pity. It would and could be my favourite distro if it wasn't for the myriads of bugs....

Over heating, PCBugOS. Maybe it is the computer not PCLinux. Have been using it for years. 7 now; and have no problems. My 76 year old computer illiterate mom even uses it. She loves it for card games and online web surfing. Go PCL

Pro:
excellent for people who can't keep up with the technical aspects of Linux or computers in general.....been using it since 0.93 version, came from Windows NT and wouldn't go back.... security is excellent, packages are excellent, intuitiveness is very good, very stable compared to years back, I went through about 6 or 7 Linux distros before finding PCLinuxOS...... community help is available in the PCLinuxOS forum where people are very friendly and helpful .... like the logo says- Radically simple.... can't say enough good about it..... installed it on a laptop for 10 yr. old grand daughter to use LibreOffice Writer and play games..... she's having NO problem with it.... 10 years old !!!...... if you don't need proprietary Windows programs then PCLinuxOS is the distro to get, like I said- very stable and secure...... love it.....
Cons:
can't use an expensive Windows CAD package but that's not PCLinuxOS's fault, it's the CAD developers decision to not opensource his package...... not every category of Windows software is represented in the opensource platform unfortunately.....

Love it.
PClinux OS seems to be the only live distro having no problems with nvidia drivers. I've got an old laptop without hard drive (broken), PClinux on USB deals with nvidia driver and the Quantum Firefox with no problems at all, which is all I need to connect laptop to the HDTV set.

Could not install directly, but was able to load live version and install from that. Attractive, simple, and so far robust.

PCLinuxOS is a near perfect distro. It is a rolling release, yet is very stable and dependable. It has been around for quite a while, so it is solid. Very easy for beginners to maintain. It is what Solus is striving to be. The KDE Plasma 5 desktop is a very easy transition for those coming over from Windows. I strongly recommend PCLinuxOS.
Pros: stable and dependable rolling release
Easy to maintain
Good support
Cons: after a kernel upgrade, it may have glitches for a week or two afterwards.

It overheats processor, my Haswell chip is running on max frequency and is noisy
when no applications are turned on.
