Great distro, but boy is this a hidden gem! I doubt anyone would ever learn about Lunar by accident!
Seriously, Lunar Linux is what Gentoo SHOULD be. Some say Funtoo is the better Gentoo, and in some cases that's true. It's more stable and has better documentation in some cases IMHO. But Lunar is, in the simplest terms possible, the closest distro to Arch Linux that is source-based. Constantly updated, minimal, and little breakage. Well done devs!
Installing is relatively easy, but DON'T USE THE OFFICIAL ISOS! You have to use the development ISOS on their website, which aren't easily found. The official website is lunar-linux.org, but the daily ISOS (that work anyway) are available here: www.lunar-linux.org/lunar/testing/daily/
Everything is fast and modular. Updates are daily. The community is super small, but someone is on IRC most of the time (#Lunar on freenode). Compilation time is what it is, but I like to think the time is worth the extreme amount of configurability and fine-tuning (per-package USE flags only!).
If you're like me and are looking for a source-based distro and Gentoo just isn't cutting it, either due to older packages or issues with compiling, Lunar might be for you! What other distro has the latest GNOME desktop while still being source-based? Lunar really rocks!
Keep in mind: This might not be wise to install on a laptop. Some larger applications, like Firefox, Chromium, KDE/GNOME, etc. will take hours, and you need a lot of RAM. On my desktop, with an i5 4690k, it's fast and doesn't take more than 2 hrs for any package.
This release is very good, although niche, but once you've built it, the system will be very quick. By using and understanding the system, you'll have a deeper understanding of Linux. You'll understand the relationships between the components, understand how the system works, and be better able to make the system work for you.
