The Arch installer is the only reason to use this distro. It's better than Manjaro and it isn't bloated, but when choosing extra programs to install it was missing Pamac. If you install that then this distro would be a 10/10.

Amazingly simple Arch installer. Respectfully, it is slightly more than an installer. But if you are basically looking for a fast and easy way to install Arch without bloat (I’m looking at you Manjaro), then this is the distro for you. I’m using it with with KDE Plasma. Let me tell you, it is fine as frog hair.

The AL-installer is the primary reason to use this arch based distro.
You have so many choices that will provide you with base applications , boot loader, many de choices, login window or lack of, which shell, and much more.
The easiest way to tailor arch how you want it from the get go without installing arch vanilla.
Using arcolinux with modifying and running scripts is another option but I think this is the easiest way to install arch without an installer taking too many install choices away from you.

ArchLabs was a refreshing joy to install, as the default theme suits me. Fast and super responsive without being a hog on resources. Choice of apps for a minimal install is spot on and took very little to have it customized for the way in which I will use it.
Highly recommend AL, it is a breath of fresh air when it comes to a suitable daily driver.

Tried ArchLabs and was really impressed with the simplicity. I rated it 9 because it's not ideal for everyone, particulary first-time Linux users. However, it is a 10+ for experienced users looking for an easy minimalist arch distro.

My favorite based on Arch distro based on the 4 i have used.
Installer works well with LVM, though it's probably best to create LVM partitions before launching installer, I don't care for manjaro, and other calamares installers don't work with lvm to my liking.
I use gnome but like all DE's. Minimal bloat pre-installed, less than other arch builds.
Installer has quite a bit packages to select if you choose so.
You can edit the pkg build and recreate your own ISO if so choose.
It does not come installed with gui package builder unless I missed that in the package install options. You can install that later with Yay or whatever you like.

Really, really love Archlabs. Long time Linux user - I would use i3 wm on top of a Lxde desktop, usually from Manjaro. Discovered Archlabs i3 setup on a recent, forced distrohop. My goodness what an absolute beauty. Wish I'd found it sooner - i3wm is optimised in ways I'd never considered and my netbook is cool and flying.

really excited about this release until I tried to install it, been with Linux and Arch for 10 years and this was strickly the installer and not the distribution.
Very good looking distribution from screenshots that I have seen, not going to waste my time with trying to get it up and going after 3rd try. Really interested with multiple choice window manager from the installer.
Think it is best and good advice not to rush a release and upload it as sunstandard. Agree with others that there are a lot of downloads versus a very small and weal forum.
Like ArchLabs, think they will prevail and get their issues worked out, just not for me now

Prefered AL's release prior to this current one, not sure what to think of it. AL has been my favorite daily driver until now.
Cons: Installer, don't like it because of just buggy.
Lags when opening applications
High memory usage
Too many running processes when idle
Pros: Nice icons and themes
Not sure what is happening with ArchLabs, simply not the best they have done.

Absolutely lovely little Arch spin. Gorgeous setup out of the box, though it could really do with a preset amount of apps n such coming out the box with the installer letting you select additional ones and maybe taking things away from the preset? I'm not personally too keen on configuring stuff via text files but openbox makes that nice and easy with its very readable files. Overall though I kept running into small little issues and bothersome problems that make this ride rather bumpy. Not quite on the same level as the almighty Manjaro, but certainly getting there. I may return to this one again at a later date.

Superb!
Installation is easy, and for a guided install it's great to be able to choose what programs are being installed. I have tried many of the big distros and there always just seems to be useless junk that you don't need. Why not give the option to CHOOSE what to install like ArchLabs?
I have also tried Arch alone, but for me it's easier with ArchLabs (no need to setup the basics, network etc.). To sum it up "Freedom of choice, without the tinkering".

There are some minor caveats but overall it's probably the best distro i've seen to date. I've tested more than 200 distros and this one really surprised me.
Very complete, very well setup.

I ran almost any distribution and settled for an arch based distro. After running Manjaro as well as Antergos for months I finally found my Arch (based) distro of choice. ArchLabs is fabulous. It comes with OpenBox and i3 out of the box and is beautifully themed and configured. It's fast and very lightweighted. The installer is different than most others, but it is very easy to use and very informative. IMO it's better than Antergos and Manjaro (which I both love). If you want to run Arch, try ArchLabs. I'm sure you will love it.

No some must-have utilities like locate, Conky poorly "equipped", sensors tray works strange and incomprehensible some not default settings lead to longer tuning. Hard to force working autostart both: tint2 and Polybar. No JWM version. Some unusual hotkeys(no Alt+F2, W+e(need file manager - not geany), W+r).Greatful for fast config links. While installing big1.5 Gb soft like urbanterror - tmp says no space left on device so need to fix(e.g. In Antergos same trouble).
First 2 days impressions are incredible. Then necessary to modify significantly.
In general, I would recommend. especially against the background of others distros

Archlabs is an excellent distribution:
- You just have to pay attention to the installation of the system, respect the installation orders, otherwise the installation fails.
- You can choose the environment you want, I chose "XFCE", with "Pacman", "AUR" (for GPU drivers and printers) it gives a mix of "Solus" and "Manjaro" in many better...

Love it! This is one of the best distros I have used so far, in my 20+ years of using different GNU/Linux varients. My next best is Debian stable.
Archbang gives you the power of doing all that you have done in gnome with a much smaller memory footprint. It is so lightweight and fast, I just love it.
Things i like the most in this distro:
- openbox configuration and the way it (drun, pokit, polybar, trayer, jgmenu, ksuperkey etc.) is put together
- lightweight, easy on memory and CPU
- simple interface yet elegant interface
- default shortcut key settings
- Beautiful shell based installer
- zsh
- ofcourse the power of pacman
Cheers to the team!

Nice ready-to-use openbox alternative and of course, an Arch-based distro.
It's really cool see distros shipping WM's out-of-the-box and with a lot of theming included. Really nice distro!
Pros:
~ Lightweight;
~ Very well polished;
~ Arch-based (as I said before hehe);
~ Good for low specs machines;
~ Post-install script;
~ A lot of themes pre-installed;
~ Possibility to install others WMs like Awesome, Bspwm, i3 and so on.
Cons:
~ Installation process is kind of confusing;
~ It uses a semi-graphical installer - not good for newbies;
~ Auto-partitioning didn't work for me, seems broken;
~ It's of course a lightweight option, however, due to the theming and extra functions that are included in this openbox version, it obvious gets less lightweight than a "raw" openbox - anyway, it's still a good option for those who are looking for a ready-to-use openbox distro.
Neutral:
~ Minimalistic.
Ready-to-use openbox alternatives to Archlabs:
~ ArcoLinux (Arch-based);
~ Antergos Openbox (Arch-based);
~ BunsenLabs (Debian-based);
~ CrunchBang++ (Debian-based and not yet on Distrowatch list).

Quite possibly the simplest, fastest, most beautiful distro I've ever had the pleasure of using.
CrunchBang & BunsenLabs done the ArchWay
Fully customizable. Extremely fast, and possibly the best oobe experience I've seen from any distro. Great installer, allows you to fine tune your installation to your specific needs.
Amazing documentation, and perfect for old & beginning Arch users.
Customizing requires prior knowledge of Linux, but this distro comes out of the box with fully customized Openbox, Polybar, Tint2, & Conky.
Allows you to install any dm/wm after installation. Perfect base for "ricing"
This has been a stable daily driver for over a year.
MOST RELIABLE DISTRO EVER (in my humble opinion.)
No problems experienced since original install.
Tried with many kernels, all integrate perfectly (Linux, Linux-ck, Linux-Zen, LTS.)
It comes with everything you need, and still manages to be a very lightweight install. Anything else you need can be found in AUR.
Hands down... Best Arch distro aside from vanilla Arch.
This is the distro that makes Arch Linux accessible to the masses.

SuperFast ! Even Gentoo was not soo fast as that. Common Arch & Manjaro was buggy on my both PCs, as other distros i`ve tryed (Mageia, Fedora, Funtoo, Debian, Carelos, ROSA, Mint, Sabayon) complicated and so long to install.
After fresh install just few hitches, so they`r easily corrected in a sec-s.
Its distro overtakes popular Manjaro, imho in speed and minimalism. No odd apps i`ve never needed in other dostros.

This is a great Arch distro. I have few complaints, but just 2. My opinion of course bad choice of a terminal, terminator would be much easier and friendlier. The second is lack of explanation with the Al-hello. For a first time user getting into Arch they would not know what to choose nor how to adjust the desktop such as the background. But, I still rate this Arch distro ahead of Manjaro or Antegros of which I have both used for a few months each. Have been using Archmerch now for 3 months and everything is working just fine after a few necessary tweaks. I believe if this distro continues to improve it should end up being the top Arch distro beating out Manjaro.

I only received 1 gift this year, an old Dell XPS 15 LT. After cleaning it up and replacing the HDD I immediately went to DistroWatch to see which distro I should install and at the top of the list was ArchLabs.
I had installed Arch a long time ago but found it to be very wonky and it would not recognize several of my components so I ditched it in favor of Debian and it is, or maybe was, my daily driver.
After installing it 4 times and finally giving in to the Openbox window manager as the primary desktop interface I found that it was perfect and highly configurable. I'm still having issues with the NIVIDIA driver, but this is a very old LT so finding the right driver that works correctly has been a challenge. Other than that I'm very pleased with what I see.
Thank you for the nice gift and have a blessed and successful New Year!

Totally awesome distribution, and systemd free! Very new to Arch and run Devuan and Debian in the past. Devuan is on my main daily driver while I use ArchLabs to learn Arch, having a blast and learning so much and much can be cross configured to Devuan.
Very lean memory usage which pleases me which comes in about 190 mb of memory at login, CPU running at a nice 30C on an AMD 8 core 8350 processor. ArchLabs treats my machine with that special love so naturally, it's a keeper.
Beauty I've heard is skin deep, not so and admit that it has an appearance that pleases the senses and eyes.
Kudos to the devs, a lot of hard work has paid off and it's evident. ArchLabs could easily set the standard for
new up coming distributions, not bloated and essentially easy to use.
Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

Arch with a graphical installer and a heavily customized Openbox WM. Everything works perfectly out of the box on my ThinkPad T410 and is very speedy.
New-ish user to Arch. Have previously stuck with Slackware and Debian as well as testing a bunch of distros in virtualbox. It was pretty easy to transition over to the Arch way of doing things.
I know it's a meme that arch breaks all the time but it really isn't true. So far I've encountered 0 problems in 2 months!
Overall a very polished distro. I mainly switched for the AUR and always up to date release model. Remember: never go too long without updating your arch system, THAT'S when it breaks!

Simply brilliant. I've distrohopped for 2 years straight, though Solus did win my fancy for a good number of months, and ArchLabs has quelled this habit. I have no itch to "find something better." For a while I knew I loved Arch, but at the same time, did not feel like learning how to custimize every detail of my desktop. I like Arch for what it is, and whether you get there through a vanilla install, Antergos, "Anarchy Linux," or ArchLabs, the result can be tuned and made to conform to however the user desires.
The default Openbox theming is gorgerous. Straight up beautiful. Polybar is so easy to custimize (I configured it to my liking in less than half an hour without any previous experience) but looks stunning OOTB. "Pacli," the custom GUI/Terminal hybrid to (optionally) help manage Pacman and the AUR is a nice addition for new Arch users.
The installation went smoothly, though I did have to use Gparted outside of the installer to correctly make the partitions. This may have been local to my machine, and was no issue at all. In my opinion, it was even easier than Ubuntu, Antergos, or Mint to install!
Couldn't be happier with my current setup. I imagine I'll spend some time tweaking here and there, but within only an hour or so, I like what I've got!
I can't see why you wouldn't give this distro a try unless you are a Linux newbie or cannot deal with an EXTREMELY UNLIKELY package breakage. Arch is bleeding edge, but has always been, for me, suprisingly stable.
If you value a very minimal desktop (sorry KDE and GNOME fans), be sure to give ArchLabs an hour or so of your time. You may end up falling in love!

I have tried and used many Linux distro's since the late 90's and Archlabs is one of the fastest and easiest to use. I consider myself to be a average+ Linux user.
Arch was too time consuming for me to configure so I gave that up about 6 years ago and kept experimenting with many of the Linux versions, from DSL, Puppy, Point, #!, Ubuntu, Mint and so on.
I stumbled across Archlabs a few months ago, installed it and struggled through the videos now and then, however I stuck with it and now use it as my 'main O.S'.

Hi there. As someone who has used Ubuntu since 2005, and tried out many distros and desktop environments, I have to say that just the install experience by itself got me hooked on immediately! From the live environment, through the installation, and, last but not least, using the installed system. If I owned a hardware company, I'd sell PCs with ArchLabs installed by default.
System information:
OS: ArchLabs x86_64
Kernel: 4.9.56-1-lts
WM: Openbox
CPU: Intel i5-7500 @3.800GHz
GPU: Radeon RX 560
Memory: 1046MiB / 7926MiB

Almost perfect. Needed to remove my Nvidia card and install from on board GPU then installed the Nvidia drivers via AL-HELLO and all was good after a couple of reboots. Love the interface and now I have many more free resource to get the job done.

ArchLabs is a very nice project, especially for anyone who wants to learn Arch and a more user friendly installer. Impressed with AL since it's conception. Lot of good folks contributing their resources, time, abilities and funds to bring an absolutely awesome openbox experience to it's users.
Theme is awesome right OTB, made no changes that I'd normally do with a new install. Overall the appearance is great.
Running AL now because of the constant failure to provide a working distribution from Debian or Ubuntu, thought it was time to move on.
Glad I did!

ArchLabs is an exceptional distro, enjoy configuring and use it as a daily driver. New to Arch but have been with Debian about 10 years.
Appearance is awesome, OTB! Openbox is my preference period. Like what AL has done with it.
ArchLabs is similar to BunsenLabs but very much removed in many aspect. Very much it's own distro. Think the devs has produced an attractive and stable release that users can count on. Lightning fast and easy on resources.
Kudos to all involved and long forward to the next release.

This distro (AL Minimo) is lightning fast with attention to detail, making openbox a pleasant and beautiful experience

Minimo is a departure from the really bloated and resource hungry 5.0 release. Still has a lot of rough edges but tolerable,
Appearance is a bit bland, not a fan of any paper icons or light schemes. Liked 5.0 a lot better with the dark themes.
Couldn't get the conky or MPV to work. Installed Parole instead.
Installer works great and quite fast.
ArchLabs best attribute is that it's systemd-free and delivers those less experienced to the world of Arch.
Over all think ArchLabs minimo is a very good distro and has great promise.

Best distro I tried as replacement for my 'Manjaro with OpenRC and i3', beside that it uses 'systemd', which I won't use. It hurts to pass this very nice distro and I really hope the ArchLabs will discover a systemd-free version. If it was systemd-free I would have give it 11 point out of 10 and have writen a poem as review, maybe later ;)

Minimo is an ideal solution for those who have previously used Architect Installer for a base arch-install. It offers the choice of installing via Calamares or ABIF for greater control of the initial install.

Archlabs R2D2 comes with many themes and icons to customize the desktop until your heart is content.

ArchLabs is a great distro for those who love to tinker with their install and rice their desktop. Minimo is the lean and lightweight version which is my preference. The heavier version is R2D2 and this contains various themes, icon packs, wallpapers, coneys, easy configuration options etc. An install of either version includes openbox and i3. If you like #!, BunsenLabs, ArchBang, or if you love openbox and/or i3wm and want a quick Arch install then it is worth giving ArchLabs a spin. The ArchLabs community is small and new and it is very friendly and welcoming. This is a really fun distro.

Made it a point to try out ArchLabs after putting it off for so long, only because not a typical Arch user. Visit the forums and find useful info.
Gave minimo a try and quite frankly an excellent distribution, has all the bells and whistles along with being very stable.
So, installed to a larger 1tb drive and making it my daily runner, I'm hooked now on a new distribution although it'll be a learning experience too. Very impressed with the efforts put into this fine example of thought out development.
Like the default theme and icons, really not much changes required to have it suited for my personal taste.
Been a few days so haven't found a negative aspect to comment on other than "keep on truckin"!
Kudos to all involved!

Being new to arch-kernel and openbox wm, this is the perfect distro. Loads of customizability and beautiful themes and wallpapers included. Maybe a bit too much bloatware, e.g. variaty AND nitrogen to choose your wallpaper, but on the other hand it's a nice way to learn what software is available for new users. 300+ ram-usage is not a big deal, when most computers today have 8Gb+ available. Are you installing on a potato, go for Arch ;)

Not a real bad distro, just very bloated.
Extremely high consumption of resources. 325mb ram at log in.
Nice dark theme

Very nice themes and icons, although there are just too many of them.
This is my third attempt to try and install and on a laptop this time but still login is 320mb, not sure why so much ram initially. Have installed numerous openbox Wm's and never over 250mb of ram after login. Most run about 150mb on a laptop.
Decided perhaps to remove majority of unneeded pipemenus and unneeded programs, perhaps more is running in the background than what I could detect. All efforts failed but do think it is stable, but definitely not right for me to use. Archbang is far my choice of Ob distros.
Hopefully with the next release these issues will be resolved for those who use it.
Not a bad distro but not right for me.

Looks very similar to BL, but of course with Arch. Very nice color scheme!
Honestly a really big distro and way to many icons and themes. Leaves little room for personal user choice with apps, should be brought down to about 700mb or smaller.
Ram way to high to initial with boot to log-in, not sure why?
It's ok distro, Archbang distro of choice and think that ArchLabs needs some mature approach to make it really something good.

I find this distro to be the one that stops me from distro-hopping any longer. I've use Linux since Mandrake 6.0, and of all the spins I've tried, this one made me snap my head back around! Prior to this I was giving deepin a go, and found that it a level of polish not typically seen, and I had thought IT was going to be my last stop, but had saw ArchLabs on youtube and went ga-ga for it. I am done hopping... especially for a 52 yr old...
To the team for ArchLabs, c'est magifique!
I've found my daily driver. Thank you.

Very nice distribution and enjoy Arch as a daily driver.
Dark theme is appealing and easy on the eyes.
Overall a well put together distribution with plenty of extra applications, themes, icons, and pipe-menus to tweak and customize your install.
Size is a bit large, but no problem downloading or installing it.
May keep as a daily driver.

I've been using 5.0 for a month now and haven't noticed any bugs. Best Arch based distro I've ever used.

The pros are as the previous reviews. I just want to say it has the potentiality to be the best distro if bugs were fixed and become more mature (e.g. adding languages support) in the future.
Besides, I like its metal black design so much! It's a very important element to me in this eye-harming white background screen world in addition to the attractivity of its black style.

Like the dark theme, love openbox. Arch is distribution of choice.
Unfortunately it is overdone, just too much junk and severely bloated. Lacks a mature approach in design, reminds too much of an Ubuntu distro with almost 2Gib of download.
Slow for an openbox, and memory usage quite high.
Will stick to ArchBang, a minimal unbloated Arch distribution.

ArchLabs is very configurable.
It comes with several conky designs to choose from, as well as, several Tint2 themes to choose from.
You can very easily make ArchLabs your own, even if you don’t have tons of Linux experience.
I enjoyed my installation of ArchLabs.
It took me a little bit of time to get used to the right click anywhere menu, but after that it was easy.
I also like that fact that the conky has all of the important keyboard shortcut listed for ease of use.
It really made things easy.
For the more advanced users R2-D2 will include an tiling desktop environment, i3wm next gaps.
ArchLabs will continue to use openbox as main desktop environment but now you have a fallback or an alternative environment to watch your movies, surf net or do your work.
It is an awesome tool for workflow management.
You will get 10 desktops with each their own specialty like browsers, editors, multimedia, music, …
ArchLabs is my dailly driver since the beginning of 2017 and it rocks!

[Addy's Review Part I]
Previously I was a distro hopper, but now I have stopped hopping. I have found a distro that very suitable for me. ARCHLabs is what I expect from a Linux distro. Everything just works out of the box, no pain no frustration just fun.
Every single codec is preinstalled. It even comes with VLC Media Player and MPV Media Player. Two best media player for Linux in my opinion. And SMPlayer is preinstalled as well, as a backup.
Adobe Flash Player is preinstalled too, along with three web browser. Firefox, Chromium, and Vivaldi (four, if eLinks Text Based Web Browser is counted).
Other preinstalled packages are Libre Office full office suite, DeadBeeF with mp3 support out of the box, four terminal emulator (Termite as default, with Terminator, Urxvt, Uxterm as backups), printer Support that comes with Gutenprint which support hundreds of printer models, Gnome Archive Manager with every archive format plugins preinstalled, easy HDMi configuration tools (Arandr, LXRandR, and pulseaudio), ClipIt for multi clipboard, Networking tools (VNC, Gigolo, Zenmap, etc), Xfce Settings Manager and some other Xfce components, Pamac as a front end package manager. Yaourt, Pacaur, and Packer for AUR helper. The developers really think about "What if a program fails to run? We should back it up with a fallback version of that software". And I love that way of thinking.

[Addy's Review Part II]
For UI components, ARCHLabs comes with Openbox as a main window manager, and plenty of modular components to build a usable desktop. Tint2 as the default panel (Polybar & Xfce4 Panel for backups). Xfce4 Appearance for GTK Theme, Icons, and Cursor chooser. LX Appearance & Obconf for Openbox components configuration, including Window Decorator. Obmenu-generator for auto-update right click main menu. Rofi and Dmenu for alternative program launcher. Plank for a dock bar. Conky for a sticky system information. Oomox Theme Generator for theme making. And it is even better in ARCHLabs 5.0, i3wm with gaps is preinstalled along with i3blocks as an alternative X session.
One of my favorite part is, ARCHLabs comes with a massive collection of themes. Arc colora series, Papirus icons, Sardi colora series, Surfn colora series, Arc icons, Numix icons, Breeze cursor. Plenty of Conkies (how to say Conky in plural?), Tint2 themes, Rofi themes, Termite themes, and many others. I love playing around with desktop customization, You can view my gallery at addy-dclxvi.deviantart.com to see what I have done with ARCHLabs.
The conclusion is, ARCHLabs is the best distro I ever tried. Very friendly for non geek Linux users that want to try Openbox and i3 experience without pain and frustration. And very suitable for Linux users that have desktop customizing hobby.
Regards,
Adhi Pambudi aka Addy

Ease of use is off the charts. Distro is totally rock solid and reliable. Repositories are awsome. Its creator Erik Dubois has created a channel on Youtube, to show anyone what they need to know about setting up the distro to truly make it there own. This is one I would recommend to everyone.
