I tried... I gave up.
Elementary OS is a very "pretty" distro with many customization that look nice but just don't make sense.
1. The default app picker is horrible. You can't sort by application type (office apps, video apps, sound and music apps, etc.). Unless you're using an scroll-wheel mouse, you can't scroll through the apps. You have to click on a small dot to pan to the next page of alphabetically-sorted apps.
2. You can't put anything on the desktop! It sure is nice to have a pretty desktop, but I'd like to USE all that space to place actively used docs, apps that I use frequently, etc. By default, elementaryOS doesn't allow items on your desktop.
3. You can't minimize an open window from within the open window! There is no minimize button in any of the windows! If you want to minimize a process, you have to go down to the dock/launcher and click on the open item to minimize it. That's a minor inconvenience (especially for MS Windows users trying to find a reason to make a switch), but it's a real pain in the ass id you have two or more windows of the same process open. For example, if you have a Firefox window open and another Firefox "in-private"window open, the launcher/dock doesn't allow you to minimize just one of them, You need to open a windows manager to select the process you want to focus on.
4. The launcher/task manager is shit! Sure, you can add to, re-order, and remove apps from the launcher easily enough, but there's no app preview, you can't close or minimize an app form the dock/launcher, and you can barely see the indicator light that informs you what apps are open. Even the Windows 10 task bar is more useful than that piece of crap!
I understand that a lot of these complaints can be remedied by 3rd party apps, and downloading some "tweaks" tool that the developer wishes you wouldn't use. That's not good enough. Stay away.

This distribution is incredible and improves more and more. Many people talk about bugs, but I have not seen many of them lately, it's good seed to other distros. Beauty and fluency are impeccable in addition to the exclusive store. I already use it for two years and I will continue to use it.

Stability is a major issue. Frequent crashes or bugs, including with system software, are a part of life. You'll be lucky if it doesn't lock up 5 times a day.
Pantheon is a fantastic-looking desktop. However, as with many environments, it has no support for fractional scaling which renders it useless to my daily driver laptop (14" FHD).
The App Center is mediocre at best, you'd be better off just downloading through apt.
It has a lot of potential, but unfortunately I don't think it's ready for prime-time just yet.

This OS is definitely overrated. It is never worth a 8.1 rating.
Why: It has bugs, bugs, bugs
Printing: Bugged
File Handling: Bugged
Display Handling: Bugged
and so on
The custom apps like "files" and "video" and so on look nice, but they are massively lacking just the most necessary things.
Try to change the volume in "video" and don't do this via the system volume, good luck! Better use VLC.
Try to change the sort order in "files", the app will hang afterwards! Better install dolphin.
Try to change the settings in the terminal app, and I do not mean the background color! Charset for example. Better install gnome-terminal.
Try to install a printer properly! I had to reinstall the printer in the system settings after every initiated print.
It was't even possible to change the printer settings, everything was greyed out, because the developers misconfigured the CUPS permissions.
Try to use a dual monitor setup! Pain in the a**. My first monitor is connected with DisplayPort, second one with HDMI. Every second time the first monitor goes black after grub and I have to reboot. When used in a single monitor setup, it is great, the handling of the workspaces is the best and most intuitive I've ever used.
The copy&paste handling is awful for a linux user. I know, it should be similar to Windows and MacOS, but you should let the user decide, how to handle this linux. Middlemouse paste sometimes work, most times not. It is not fun.
I think these where the main issues, why I installed KVM and now use a openSuse virtual machine (beside a windows 7 vm) to do my work from home more efficient then eOS allows.
It is good looking and should be a good start for a newbie, but even for those it has to many limitations. Minimalism is not everything and can be annoying, when you are not even allowed to do basic things. And a good looking wallpaper here and a nice iconset there don't do a good operating system.

The AppCenter will crash. Count on it, especially when trying to do multiple things at once.
It looks fantastic, but as others suggest it has strange behaviors on certain machines. Both of mine are older, but it has a ton of bugs on the old AMD Athlon 5400+ HP with 4GB of RAM and a solid state drive from Crucial. I also have a Dell Optiplex 960 with a 3.0 E8400 Core 2 Duo, 8GB of RAM and a Crucial 3D NAND drive and it beats the pants off of anything else in speed and stability. Give it a try at least. It may work good, it may not. Its designed for simplicity. Do not think of it as a multitasking workstation OS. It can do a lot if you know the ins and outs, but its not for the rookie for sure.
With some stability increase, it will be phenomenal.

I am finally switching over from Windows, elementary 5.0 was my first Linux choice because it is minimalist/simple looking, yet pretty, and with a bit of quality assurance over 3rd-party apps if I understood correctly.
Unfortunately, after only a few days, I am looking for the right Linux distro for me, as elementary 5.0 was very "buggy". Unfortunately, I do not recall the exact issues or write them down. When they resolve these issues, I'll likely give it another try, until then, I am distro hopping - which is not what I want to do at all.

Tried elementaryos-5.0-stable.20181016.iso... What the heck was that?? First you get badgered for money (I put $0.00). Then, once you have it installed, you get NO THEMES, not even a theme tab/icon in System Settings (you're stuck with the bright white 60 watt glare THEY feel you should use). And you're asking money for THIS?? And, finally, you get badgered for money every time you want to install a new app.

Cool distro.
PROS:
- Nice new themes for terminal since Loki.
- App Store much improved.
- Beautiful interface that I hardly need to tweak. Didnt even download my own wallpaper. They've really got the artistic side of this down.
- Based on stable Ubuntus latest release.
- DEB/Apt package management
- Fast boot.
- Runs fast on my old shitty hardware I am running on one of my PCs.
- Can be tweaked endlessly in gsettings.
- Can be left untweaked and work well.
- Simple enough for my non-tech savvy relatives. Wrote a simple update script in .bashrc to clean/patch the system on startup, and installed clamtk to run a scan daily, and now they are good to go.
- Minimal bloatware
CONS:
- Need to download Pulse Audio (sudo apt install pavucontrol) to be able to switch to HDMI and back. Used to work without this in Loki, so is kind of annoying.
- Wish there was a way to get AppCenter from checking for updates upon logging in. I handle that on my own and would be faster if the files weren't locked.
- Bug where you have to click in the user field on logging in instead of having it auto-selected.
- Should be able to switch to I-beam/Underline in terminal for the cursor. Easily modified though in gsettings.
OVERALL:
Dope. Little work to be done, but dope.

They had it right in Loki, Juno is not stable enough to be a "stable release". HDMI audio issues, bluetooth issues, the applications menu constantly scrolling was fixed but is now back. Loki worked right out of the box. Will give Juno another try after a major update hopefully in the new year.

Though based on Ubuntu-Debian, the interfaces are so different that quite a learning curve will be needed to master this distro. I have long admired the Gnome 2/MATE interface for simplicity and efficiency. I really don't have time to learn another completely different set of interfaces. Consequently I will not be using Elementary OS.

On the whole, it's been a pleasant experience. The desktop environment feels clean and refined. The settings exposed to the user are lacking, and the third-party "Tweaks" switchboard plug-in is a must-have for basic customization. Sure, it's not as fleshed out feature-wise as the more established distros, but what's there is fast, fluid, and familiar.
Upon first boot, elementary had my 4K HiDPI display running with 2x scaling for GTK applications, which looked *great*. Out of the box, Qt applications were using a less refined scaling mode similar to that used by Windows XP: text-based elements rendered at appropriate sizes, but images were too small. Setting QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=1 at boot fixed that, and now Qt apps scale uniformly. I also needed to install some packages and tweak some environment variables before I could get Qt apps to use the GTK style. I'm surprised that a distro so heavily inspired by macOS didn't spend more time on UI consistency.
The console was effectively unusable due to the tiny font sizes; I had to move my face within a few inches of the screen to read the grub menu. Some quick searching was all I needed to switch to a larger console font, but updating grub was a bit more involved. I'd like to see this taken care of automatically in future releases.
I have heard other users complain about theme-related issues with other GNOME/GTK applications. I haven't encountered anything egregious, but these days I mostly stick to Firefox, various JetBrains IDEs (not based on GTK), and the terminal. Speaking of, the terminal app could certainly use more settings. At least with Elementary Tweaks it was easy to change the default font size, though it could probably be done through the dconf editor.
8/10 for a slick experience, but a ways to go before hitting 10/10.

Really wanted to love this distro and was ready to jump ship from Ubuntu and MX--mainly because I value such detailed and consistent theming that this OS offers.
Unfortunately with the seemingly high potential and talented developers behind the project, they either cannot or will not let third-party apps, even GNOME apps look half decent. Not to mention the overall buggy feel.
IMO it is more suited to advanced users who appreciate the macOS style "walled garden" concept where you can rely on minimal GUI apps (the in-house ones are good), and find other CLI alternatives where theming breaks in GUI.

im glad i just donated $0 to download this distro.
the UI just doesnt works for me and im having a hard time getting adjusting since they feel so limited in customization and the applications are too basic that you will need to replace the included applications with something else that works anyways.
can suggest this to "new" users to linux, but not for users who already have been familiar with general linux behaviour. the distro is just very restricting and is trying to follow Apple's mentality of how their OS is suppose to be used.

Big ElementaryOS fan. Not sure if I like 5 better than Loki.
Pros:
• Got rid of glitch where Plank icon would show up and not go away.
• Videos now goes to true fullscreen.
• App center actually has useful apps now.
• Like the file explorer. Took some getting used to, but the checkmark for selecting vs one-click to open is actully pretty efficient once you adjust.
• Can change terminal to dark variant now.
Cons:
• Doesnt auto select password field on login. Gets annoying.
• Not a fan of the giant header bars that gets put on every app, wish there was a way to adjust this.
• Mail app needs work, difficult to get it to work with any provider. (Maybe just ditch it for Thunderbird?)
• No minimize button. Have to click icon.
• Terminal does not have many configuration settings.
Overall:
Still big EOS fan. You have some bugs to fix, and some of your design changes I am not fully onboard with (ahem..minimize button...ahem...massive title bar...) but overall it is a really well-polished great looking OS.

This OS is trying to bring a more macOS-kind of feeling to Linux. The desktop, while smooth and pretty, feels like a very watered-down version of macOS. Everything is quite restricted and siplified. Some folks might find this appealing but if I have to replace most of the default apps because I can't do everyday tasks with them (and I don't have unusual habits working on my PC), I start questioning if the OS is the right one for me, or even can be a good one in the first place.

Have been a elementary user since freya (0.3.2) and last week, I updated to juno 5.0. I love the looks and the simplicity of many apps and the desktop in general and in freya and loki I could accept the bugginess, because the bugs usually only affected single apps and hardly ever the desktop.
But Juno is crashing like almost everyday, and it is often different bugs which is really annoying (Mouse is extremely laggy, sudden reboot, app data is lost, etc.). I regret having paid 30$ for the download because this piece of software does not deserve to be called stable. It is essentially a beta version and regular users are used as beta testers against there will. The distro at this point in development is not well-suited for every day use, at least not for me on my 2015 Dell XPS 13 notebook.

I really like this OS, it's beautiful, smooth and very appealing. Unfortunately I can't use it because of a bunch of small things. Pcloud, PIA apps do not work correctly. The whole no minimize and maximize button thing is fine but should at least have the option to enable them.
I was getting accustomed to right clicking and minimizing over the few hours of using this OS but that stopped working as well. The default email app and Gmail are not friends. On top of that having to click in the password box at every login is just plain aggravating.
I will definitely try again next release, but for now its not worth the trouble to me.

Even Juno 5.0 Beta 2 was nearly rock-solid...this OS is perfect for me...simple, elegant, and engineered for users who just need to get some work done as opposed to endless tweaking. If other apps are required over and above those supplied with the distro, they are easy enough to add. I added Synaptic, Eddy, VLC, ImageBurner, Firefox, Thunderbird, Sayonara Music Player, Epson Printer Utilities, and Spotify using Snap, the OS AppCenter, and Eddy without any drama.
I hope the elementary team is in this for the long-haul because this OS is a true gift to novice GNU/Linux users dipping their toes into the FOSS waters for the first time AND more-experienced users who don't feel compelled to build-from-scratch or distro-hop to the latest whiz-bang OS flavor-of-the-month!

I've used Elementary as my sole desktop since version .3 in 2015. Today I uninstalled it. The new version 5.0 has the same headaches that version .3 did and my desire to tweak and play around with text files and commands to get basic things to work has finally drove me away. Version .4 almost drove me away. The pay-to-play bug fix system ensures that many issues won't get fixed too.
1) I use email accounts other than IMAP, so their default email client is useless to me. I've always used Evolution and it doesn't play well with Elementarys calendar. When clicking on the date in wingpanel, events will show up 20 times. Either get the calendar to work or get rid of it.
2) The button layout. To have a design principle for minimizing a window via Plank is fine, but it isn't an option either, unless you add repos and start installing tweaks. They intentionally lock it.
3) Contractor needs to go away. I forgot to backup the many /usr/share/contractor files I created in the last version so I'd have (among other things) evolution email integration with Pantheon Files and I couldn't remember the command for attaching. Selecting the dafault app for email does nothing for this.
4) There's no way to search for files unless you install one, which I did (synapse) so by default you have to open Files and click through for everything.
I was expecting version 5.0 to be an improvement over 0.4. From what I can tell, they changed the text editor and terminal. Everything else stayed the same or was even more limiting. I used Elementary not for the apps, but for the desktop. There are extensions for Gnome that create a far more friendly desktop than this is.

Well, I'm disapointed with this version. I was trying version 0.4 before and it was very buggy. Unfortunately, nothing has changed, The developers focused on the frontend instead of improve the backend. Some points:
1. The login screen still shows the time in AM/PM format and it can't be changed
2. Gmail account can't be added to Mail application
3. It is impossible to set time of notifications
4. LID cover actions do not separate the on battery power and AC power
5. When I need some better system settings I need to download some "tweaks" package, that is even not in base repositories but I have to add another repository.
And best of all, after first update, I can't use this desktop anymore as after login there is no top or bottom panel, only background image.
All of these bugs were already reported by users in previous version 0.4

Love Elementary.
Been using Loki as a daily driver on 2 machines for about 6 months. Took one up to Juno last night and spent quite a while configuring things.
Positives: Beautiful as always. Love the addition to uninstall apps by just right clicking them in the Applications menu. Love the theme options for terminal. Love that the devs stuck to the minimalist approach and lack of bloatware/ads. Just as snappy as Loki was. Fixed video player to go to actual fullscreen, so now i dont have to download mpv. Yay! App store much improved.
Areas for improvement: I know it's kind of your thing to click the icon to minimize, but i want a button as well. I want the option to change the curser in the terminal from block to I-Beam. I want an easier way to switch audio output. (Actually, in Juno, I was not able to find the HDMI output option after plugging in the cable, and had to download pavucontrol (pulse audio) to be able to find it.)
Thats about it! with a bit of tweaking it is my favorite OS. Looking forward to continued use. Excellent development team. Also, the ElementaryOS subreddit and stackexchange seem to be taking off. So support is finally increasing to the point where I don't have to use Ubuntu support to get answers that may/may not work. Donated and bought a shirt. You guys rock!

Not quite Windows-like, not quite OSx-like. Somewhere in the middle with frustrating aspects of both and some of its own.
Examples:
Bar up top is just a bar with the time and the "Start" menu and "Systray". The rest is wasted space. It does not double as the foreground application menu as in OSx.
Bar on the bottom acts as a shortcut launcher and taskbar. Unfortunately, icons do not tell you what they are launching or what is minimized, there are no names under the icons to let you know. You have to float the mouse over the icons to see the application names.
"Start" menu is a bit Windows-10ish but with icons in a horizontal view instead of goofy distracting tiles. At least there are no ads. There does not seem to be an easy way to add icons or custom launchers to the "start" menu e.g. Add a Chrome icon that has the incognito switch set.
There is no desktop, its just a "wall" with wallpaper, maybe I should call it a "ceiling" since you can pin things to a wall in real life. It is not useful or helpful at all just a complete waste of space with a pretty picture. There is no ability to put files on your "desktop". It is a very illogical concept of what Elementary folks call a "desktop". I do not work in my file drawer when working with physical files. I take it out of my file drawer place it ON my desktop work on it, then file it away after I am done.
Sometimes the "desktop" just freezes completely. When this happens you cannot switch between apps or launch new ones for a couple of minutes or seconds. If you happen to have a foreground application running it continues to work fine, it is just the "desktop". This doesn't happen often but there is some issue there I haven't quite pinpointed it.
As with any distro some of these things can be worked around but then its not reviewing the distro "out of the box" as it is designed.

For me - a chemical engineer and a medium experienced user I think elementary OS is so much more than just a pretty Linux for starters.
They try to develop good reliable software, start a software center that can play a role for a lot of software developers out there.
I really like that they're putting UX on a very high priority in the development process. In my humble eyes this is what it take to make Linux a huge success for all the disappointed MacOS and windows users out there!
Keep it up

"Elementary OS" is a fast system, quite light, there are bugs of connections with the software library very often, besides that the system is very stable ..
What I did not like: it is a locked system, the "Kernel", applications, except "Firefox", are not at all up to date.

Ce que je n'ai pas aimé : c' est un système vérrouillé, le "Kernel", les applications, à part "Firefox", ne sont pas du tout à jour....

looks OK and works fine although i experienced a few crashes after install. It works fine now though.
What I really miss is the minimize butten in the windows. I don't like closing and reopening and losing state of the window. Thinking about going to another distro because of this...

Last time I used it, it didn't feel like OSX. Was very frustrating. When I drag and drop something on my real OSX desktop, there it is. When I tried that with elementary, it would never drop anything on to the desktop. Very annoying for a distro that is obviously trying to mimic OSX but then fail at the basics. Appearances are important, but even more so is function.

elementaryOS is a perfect name for this distro. It's snappy but after running it for a few days I noticed that it was using more resources than normal. I'm not sure if it's due to Ubuntu as it's core, but it starts to get sluggish and will kill a process after running for 3 or 5 days. I don't particularly like the UI, but it's much better than most distros I have tried.
I'm going to install it as a VM for now and wait to see what the next release has to offer.

Good, but could be better.
Overall Elementary is a fine experience. It feels quick and stable, and overall has a decent interface. Very easy to use, and I've considered putting this on computers for people who are not as tech literate.
The overall UI, however, could use some polish. Having dealt with a lot of OS GUI's, I like that of Pantheon, but it just feels lacking in some area's. I would love to see more customization options (dark theme for starters), and some more polish overall. I feel like it's trying to go for a more modern clean look, but just falls short of offerings from macOS, or other distro's like deepin.

STABLE.
So nice to have a nice-looking Linux distro that is super stable.
1 weird bug i have noticed is that emptying the trashcan makes the plank icon appear on the dock, and only goes away by toggling "show unpinned" on and off again in dock settings.
Not the most customizable, but you can do a good bit if you install tweaks. every app you need is available through .deb files, aptitude, snappy, and flat-paks. Dont waste your time with the store.
Essentially Ubuntu with a nicer layout. Love it.

Patheon is very Mac-esque, so it would have been rude not to try it on my old MacBook. It looks lovely, and performance was acceptable, it even had the Mac-lag while it thought about executing a command.
I can see why this is popular amongst people switching from other OS's as it looks nice and clean, everything is simple to use, and the layout is fairly logical.
Not for the hardcore Linuxeers, but great for putting on your folks old hardware so they can carry on with their basic computer life.

Solid install and that is where it ends. Custom desktop environment called Pantheon sucks and is not customizable. Custom apps are the worst I have come across with very bad selections. Tried top 5 flavors and will definitely not be using this one. Hate it!

Ill summarize this simply as, A better looking distro than deepin, and nothing else.
Meaning that although this distro has the great looking UI, its the only thing i can see good about it. I never understand the reasoning for having these limited customization options when using linux. even the applications have limited options, making them quite useless due to vast available alternative apps on ubuntu/debian repo. i spent most of my time after installing lurking in the terminal to find apps to replace the ones it came with coz the App Center is freaking useless for not having at least an option to install the recommended apps of what you are installing, which are often plugins or extras that make the application better and such.
and where is the freaking minimize button?
if you are or only need an OS for basic stuff, then this is for you.
but for me, there are better alternatives.

I'll have to wait for Juno 5.0, because my HP printer is not supported by 16.04 based distros. That's my problem with elementary, the long wait between releases. It would be better if we had non-LTS releases twice a year and an LTS every two years, like Ubuntu.

I bought a Windows 10 laptop and, after using it for just a few minutes, became desperate at the intrusiveness, ugliness and lack of consistency of the operating system.
Instead of searching for a Windows 7 license, which might not even be on sale anymore, I decided to give Linux another chance. Ubuntu didn't seem polished enough, so I started reading about other distros until I found the most unimaginably beautiful, slick and well thought out of them all.
I've been happily using it for some months, bought 2 "licenses" so far and became Daniel Foré's biggest fan. Never thought I would ever see a Linux distro care so much about regular desktop users.

Most beautiful distro out there. The UI is simple and take away the fear of using Linux. It has some nice apps but at the same time they take away the trash, letting the system decluttered, you will have to find the apps yourself.

I use Loki in a VirtualBox VM and this works very well for me.
It's lightweight, looks nice and makes it easy to have a workspace free of visual clutter.
I like the pay-what-you-want pricing and the pared-down list of apps it ships with.

It is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and lightweight distributions I have ever used, but I miss the desktop being functional with access shortcuts to folders and mount points which is currently only a wallpaper frame.
Something that I consider fundamental is an application that is not supported and even not recommended by system developers is Tweaks that allows you to customize and adjust some items that increase productivity, usability and improve aesthetics.
Another point that the elementary OS deserves to be highlighted is in its application center that is very intuitive and easy, but I would very much like to return the button to include PPA's that many applications are not available being forced to add terminal.
One problem I felt and I did not figure out what it could be is with regard to virtual machines in VMware, it does not work I tried several versions but without success. As an alternative, I started using VirtualBox that did not experience problems.
Clearly it is a distro with a strong reference in the macOS, but it does not try to be a clone system because elementary OS has personality and its own guidelines. I recommend for all users whether Windows, MacOS or even other Linux distros.

Here some suggestions:
- Better configuration when you have a SSD, like scheduled trims.
- Include an office like libre office.
- Include system monitor.
- Firewall graphic configuration.
- Give hibernation option on the shutdown window.

elementary started a whole new universe of applications. If all you know is Rhythmbox, Transmission, Firefox, FocusWriter, etc., your attention will be caught by Noise, Melody, Torrential, Epiphany, Ciano, Color Picker, Quilter, and 100+ elementary apps that have been created.
The desktop is comfortable, really well thought and minimal. Good responsiveness, although it still inherited some GNOME/GTK problems, such as bogus in/out mouse events at the left and top edges of the screen. The frustration comes when you try to click a panel button and the click is ignored. Affects all users on Intel graphics, try it. This is fixed using Wayland, which isn't available for elementary yet.
Another thing. When opening complex webpages such as Facebook on Epiphany, several visual and functional glitches will start to bother you. For example, you type a message to your friend, but you notice a typo few words back. No, you move the cursor back by clicking there. The cursor will remain at the last word you typed, frozen there.
My suggestion to the elementary team would be to always use the latest Epiphany, which works a little better in these situations.
If you prefer Firefox, make sure you enable Client-Side Decoration, so it will look a bit more like Epiphany.

I started using Elementary OS as my daily runner. The User Interface is what keeps me at bay. I love how simple Elementary OS is to use. Whats not to like about functionality and beauty.
Pros
_______
1.) Stunning and Beautiful Interface
2.) Very Reliable
3.) Works out of the BOX
4.) Incredibly Fast and Responsive with low memory usage. (Your Millage may vary)
Cons
_______
1.) Not very Customizable out of the box. Install tweak tools, Snaptastic, Gdebi installer.
2.) Not a large user community (Hope this grows over time)
3.) Not many features compared to other distributions for instance edge snapping does not work.

App store is pretty sparse, but if you have any knowledge of SNAP or APT repositories you can install whatever you want. Also, built on Debian (Ubuntu 14) so .deb files run out of the box as well.
Need to activate firewall. Comes turned off out of the box.
Might be the most aesthetically pleasing distro I have had the pleasure of using.
No frivolous bloatware.

It is one of the best distributions of Gnu / Linux, it is very stable, I really have little complaint about elementary because it has worked for me with a machine with few resources (2gb ram, T3200 pentium dual-core), I collapsed once , after a second attempt it has left me surprised because it has not failed me, I have barely 1 month with it, it is a distro that falls in love, it is compatible with all linux software practically, I see it oriented to a user type mix home and work , I recommend it.

It's an easy to use distro, but the customization is very limited, and it doesn't come with any good apps or even a decent package manager. No System Monitor or Firewall, no Office Suite, and the Epiphany Browser looks limited and slow. Not a good distro at all, unless if you are a Mac user that wants something like Mac.

elementary OS 0.4.1.:
Installation:
- Dual-boot installation took almost 30 minutes (SSD drive)
Apps:
- few apps installed by default and few apps available in the app store
- the menu has a bug that doesn't show some installed apps, I installed htop and the icon was not showing up, just when I searched for it and it didn't launch, but launching it using the terminal worked
- no system monitor installed
- no preferences/about menu on some apps
- no office suite installed by default, installed LibreOffice Writer but the theme didn't work and it was unusable
- browser(Epiphany) looks limited, you can't install Chrome because there is no .deb installer by default
- can't use snaps by default, you need to install snapd
Customization:
- polished distro but few customization options available
Translation:
- it's not fully translated to my language, I had to use U.S. numbers, dates and currency
Conclusion:
- There is room for improvement. I can't use it as my daily driver yet, I will wait the Juno(version 5) release.

I installed elementary OS on my Lenovo Ideapad 100S ($150 laptop) after my inability to download the new Windows 10 update due to a lack of storage rendered it useless. Installation was a breeze as all of my computers hardware was successfully recognized by the installer. Lightweight and fast is the highlight this OS, my ability to multi-task has been realized for the first time since installation. With the Windows 10 installation simply browsing the web with this entry level, slow laptop with sub-par hardware was a chore. Now, it runs great. Battery life has increased, and my performance is like I never would have dreamed from such a mediocre machine. With Gimp I'm actually able to edit photos which would have never been possible running in a Windows Environment. This is my first experience with Linux since the early 2000s, and I must say that I am greatly looking forward to getting back into the Linux world, and elementary OS makes it an easy and beautiful experience.

Yet another ubuntu distro.
Quite a pretty desktop but what's the point of this distro?
There is no mouse menu on either left or right button, which I've not seen missing on any other distro before.
There is nothing that is not available in any of the usual ubuntu clones.
It installed easily in vmware and will be deleted just as quickly.

Recently got fed up with Windows issues and went through A LOT of distros before trying this one.
Elementary is great. Built on Ubuntu, so there is hardly any learning curve if you have experience with that. Between apt, snap, and curling deb files you can install anything you want, and that is for things that you cant find in the store, which (albeit a little light on applications) works very well.
Everything seems to just work out of the box with little to no configuration. HDMI pushes video and audio with no configuration changes (more than I can say for deepin, which I liked as well, but turned out to be a little buggy and heavy on resources.) Audio through headphones works well. Firefox runs smoothly after install (i did not try epiphany, which is the browser that comes with the OS.) I could go on.
Looks beautiful. Dock looks great, and the animations do not impact the crispness of interacting.
Cons: wish I could replace the friggen block curser in the terminal with an i-beam. Picky, I know. Wish the store had more programs, but I suppose it will grow with the community.
Overall: My all-time favorite linux distro for everyday use. I am putting it on everything. I probably tried 30+ distros in the past two months looking for the best Windows replacement, and this is hands down the champion.

Just complementing a previous review:
The default music player pauses the song when you unplug the earphone, a behavior I've never seen in other systems except the mobile ones. Good.
On the bad side of things, Epiphany doesn't always show websites properly. Some Youtube videos blackout leaving only sound. Some controls on complex pages don't respond properly. But well, Youtube is a shitty website. I don't mind avoiding it.
Also, the default image viewer does not reproduce .GIFs. A bug report is already filed and we'll see if this is implemented in the next release.
Everything else is smooth and functional.

Clean and aesthetically consistent desktop, quite fast. Convenient notifications, hints over icons, easy access by GUI to mounted media such as flash drives, and good-looking font scaling. Easily customizable for medium-level linux users.
There are a few bugs remaining, but these have been solved by online users: (1) very slow login to desktop, (2) for CLI users, profusion of error messages on launching some X apps from Terminal.
I prefer elementary OS 0.4.1 to other distros I have tried such as Mint and Ubuntu, which reflect Windows 10 style or have interfaces too complicated for the basic stuff.
EOS 0.4.1 is the best choice for someone like me who uses the CLI for serious computing, and wants simplicity in the GUI.

I've been using this distro for about a year now on my laptop and so far, I've had a great user experience. Everything just works and I like that it ships with minimal number of app, so you can make your own choices right off the bat. Pantheon is very user friendly and boots and shuts down fast. Updates are fast and frequent.
My only problem is that my VPN icon disappears from the panel whenever I open Chrome.
All in all a great distro that great out of the box.

I can honestly say I've used 50-60 different distros since my days with Linux started with Red Hat 5.1 Manhattan in 1998. The Pantheon desktop is by far the best environment in existence. My pioneering mind has me trying anything and everything available, but no matter which OS I use I always come back to elementary OS.
To criticize them for one thing though is that some of their apps in the AppCenter are so simplistic and useless that I almost laugh at the fact that the app was created in the first place.
It'll only get better.

I have been using Linux on and off since Ubuntu 7.
For the past five years i have always had a laptop running Linux of some kind ( like alot of people thses days i have several machines).
I will often try new distros and see what they are like, there are nowadays a lot of very good distros out there all offering polished and attractive user experiences.
However, I will always find myself going back to Elememtary, it runs so wonderfully on my Thinkpad X200s on an SSD, i paid under £50 for the laptop off eBay in 2014 and all be it an old machine, with Elementary OS on its more often than not my favorite laptop.
ElementaryOS is so far the most stable distro out there, its actually quite strange sometimes especially since it is based on Ubuntu LTS, because it just never goes wrong.... EVER. And now it has support for SNAPS it just got a whole lot easier to install the best apps on the market.
I was even trying to do a video some time back about running a AAA game title on linux, i tried all the usual distros but surprisingly ended up using eOS for the experiment.
Seriously you get it installed on an SSD and you will be genuinely alarmed at how fast, stable and reliable it is.
Purely astonishing OS. One of my favorite things about eOS is the way there are many apps especially designed for it, so the desktop UI stays consistent, everything is sleek and silky smooth,
In my opinion eOS is by far the best all round desktop OS and is good for beginners and professionals, EVERYONE should try it at least once, you will fall in love eventually.
I am a bit of a skeptic and never give anything full marks.... ever, but this distro deserves 10 out of 10.
Dont be put of by the devs trying to pull in a bit of revenue for the distro, you can download for free but if any distro is worth a donation it is eOS for sure. Astonishingly good.
