Gaming Linux FR has announced the release of GLF OS Quasar, a major update of the project's NixOS-based distribution focused on gaming. This version updates the GNOME desktop to version 50 and introduces numerous enhancements: "Based on NixOS 26.05, Quasar delivers a major update to the GLF OS ecosystem with a modernized software stack, new gaming features, numerous fixes, and several improvements aimed at content creators. GLF OS Quasar introduces a refreshed visual identity with brand-new exclusive wallpapers for both light and dark editions. ROCm support has been added to improve compatibility between DaVinci Resolve and AMD RDNA graphics cards. Faugus Launcher is now fully maintained and packaged by the GLF OS team, improvements include Battle.net compatibility fixes, EA App compatibility fixes, Protonfixes patch integration, packaging and maintenance provided directly by GLF OS. New gaming compatibility runners, Proton-GE GLF and Proton-CachyOS have been added. Quasar further strengthens system security with Dirty Frag mitigations, Copy Fail protection, Improved suspend, resume and hibernation handling for NVIDIA systems. |
| GLF OS is a gaming-oriented live Linux distribution based on NixOS. Developed by a French-speaking community called Gaming Linux FR (GLF), the distribution includes everything one would need for gaming on Linux, including Steam, Lutris, Heroic Games Launcher, as well as MangoHud, a tool for monitoring system performance and for benchmarking applications. GLF OS comes with specific hardware-management configurations for PS5 DualSense, Xbox and 8bitdo controllers. The live distribution image uses the GNOME desktop environments, but KDE Plasma is available as an option during system installation.

Gaming Linux FR has announced the release of GLF OS Phoenix Pulsar, the latest update of the project's NixOS-based Linux distribution designed primarily for gaming. This release updates the Linux kernel to the long-term supported 6.18 version and the NVIDIA driver to version 590.48: "What's new in GLF OS Phoenix Pulsar? The 6.18 LTS kernel optimizes gaming (latency, HDR, VRR), improves hardware compatibility (AMD/Intel/Apple), and strengthens security (TCP encryption, signed BPF), providing a stable foundation for years to come - perfect for GLF OS and its demanding users. The NVIDIA 590.48 drivers for Linux bring major optimizations for RTX 50/40/30 GPUs, with enhanced ray tracing, DLSS 3.5 support, and improved latency management. The new version brings updated desktops and system components, Linux kernel 6.17 and various bug fixes: "Say hello to GLF OS 'Phoenix', the very latest version of GLF OS, which incorporates the freshest packages, technological innovations and even more comfort for our users. Gaming Linux France has announced the first stable release of GLF OS, a NixOS-based Linux distribution for gamers. Based on NixOS 25.05 and called "Omnislash", the new release attempts to facilitate the switch from Windows to Linux with guided installation, pre-installed graphics drivers, integrated gaming applications and latency-reduction optimisations. "What does GLF OS 'Omnislash' bring since its beta release? Added a welcome screen; merged the glf-update and glf-boot commands; added a partition manager to KDE Plasma; introduced the glf-history command to view the impact of the latest update; added Nix LD to improve compatibility with certain scripts; added Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support to GNOME; added Tiling Shell and Vitals extensions; added GameMode; added OBS vk-capture for game capture. Improvements include: installation slide appearing at 46% progress; temperature readouts in MangoHUD; boosted vm.max_map_count; better integration of Easy Flatpak; virtual camera in OBS Studio; CUDA support for OBS Studio and Blender."
