| MODICIA O.S. is a Linux multimedia distribution designed primarily for musicians, graphic designers and video makers. It is based on Debian's "stable" branch, but uses the Cinnamon desktop and a recent Linux kernel. MODICIA O.S. comes with a set of carefully-selected, open-source multimedia software and tools, such as Audacity (audio editor), Brasero (disc-burning utility), Cheese (webcam application), Curlew (multimedia converter), GIMP (graphics editor), HandBrake (video transcoder), Kdenlive (video editor), MediaInfo (tool that provides technical data about media files), mpv (media player), Peek (animated GIF recorder), RawTherapee (photo processor), XnView (image viewer), and many others. The distribution also integrates the OnlyOffice software suite for general office tasks.

The new version comes with a real-time Linux kernel 6.12.63, as well as improved graphics and video performance: "The new ISO image of MODICIA O.S. 'Caravaggio' 6.12.63-RT-LTS has been released. This updated and optimized version integrates all improvements introduced by the real-time LTS 6.12.63 kernel, delivering greater stability, responsiveness and overall performance. Kernel improvements: enhanced real-time responsiveness; significantly reduced latency in audio, video and I/O processes; smoother multitasking, even under heavy workloads; faster response from the interface and professional applications; ore stable RT scheduling for JACK, PipeWire and PulseAudio; elimination of audio drops and micro‑lags during recording and complex editing tasks. Improved graphics and video performance: better CPU/GPU synchronization; more stable video pipeline for 4K/8K editing and rendering; reduced processing times in multimedia applications; integrated LTS patches for stronger protection; improved memory management and crash prevention." This is the project's first build based on the recently-released Debian 13: "The new MODICIA O.S. 6.12.41, code-named 'Caravaggio', marks a remarkable leap forward in the Linux experience. Now based on Debian 13, this release not only inherits the stability and reliability of its solid foundation, but also introduces revolutionary changes that enhance every aspect of the system, making it faster, more stable and more functional than ever. Default mounting of tmpfs in RAM dramatically speeds up system operations such as installing or updating software. The Linux 6.12.41 real-time kernel ensures maximum responsiveness and perfect compatibility with next-generation hardware, including upcoming Intel CPUs and GPUs, Wi-Fi modules and storage controllers. The Cinnamon 6.4.10 desktop environment has been redesigned and reconfigured to offer a smoother, more modern macOS-style interface, with improved Wayland support and optimized window and multitasking management."
