Distribution Release: Ultramarine Linux 42 |
The developers of Ultramarine Linux, a set Fedora-based distributions with a choice of Budgie, GNOME, KDE Plasma and Xfce desktops, have announced the release of Ultramarine Linux 42. The new version, based on Fedora 42, brings improvements to the Taidan input method editor and hardware acceleration for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL): "We've put a lot of time into Taidan, our out-of-the-box experience, in Ultramarine 42. It's really matured into a polished and useful tool. We hope to land some more features in Ultramarine 44 this year, so stay tuned to that. Windows Subsystem for Linux users now have hardware acceleration. This means you can run apps inside Ultramarine inside Windows using the GPU from your real device. Hope you have fun with this one. Due to maintenance burden and conflicts, collaboration between Terra and Repology has ended starting in Terra 42. Specifically, Repology requires all Terra sources to be fully accessible via a predictable URL format." Read the full release announcement for more information and for the project's upcoming plans. Ultramarine Linux is a Fedora-based distribution featuring extra package repositories such as RPM Fusion and enabling multimedia codecs. The project's latest version, 41, adds a new tool to help track and report system information. "Ultramarine 41 comes with a new tool for advanced users, um. Currently, its main feature is the um status command, which gives an overview of your install, package status, hardware, and more. This is useful for sharing your install details for support (or flexing your rig). Additionally, the status command supports uploading your status information to Boba, our web viewer. Just run um status --upload and the CLI will output a link that you can share. This upload is end to end encrypted and will expire in 7 days. We plan to put experimental features and advanced options in this CLI tool, stay tuned for more. Our PDF viewer is now Evince and our music player is now Lollypop. Distribution Release: Ultramarine Linux 40 |
Ultramarine Linux is a Fedora-based desktop distribution which attempts to provide a better, out-of-the-box desktop experience. The project's latest release, Ultramarine Linux 40, swaps out the Pantheon desktop for Xfce and offers support for ARM devices, such as Raspberry Pi computers. "Now the moment we're sure you've been waiting for - the Xfce edition is here. The Xfce edition stays close to the stock Xfce experience with a little bit of Ultramarine spice sprinkled in. We embrace a more traditional dock and panel setup, compared to Xfce's split layout, and use a more modern menu (with search). In addition to these layout changes, we use the beautifully familiar Materia theme. The Xfce edition is perfect for lower-powered devices and people who want to squeeze the most out of their computers. Ultramarine 40 marks the end of our Pantheon edition. From a growing maintenance burden, to a shrinking userbase, it is simply no longer viable for us to maintain the Pantheon edition." Additional information and screenshots can be found in the release announcement.
