The MX Linux team have announced the release of an update to the project's 21.x series. The new version includes Xfce 4.18 and an optional updated kernel with new hardware support. "MX Linux 21.3 is the third refresh of our MX 21 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernels and application updates since our original release of MX Linux 21. If you are already running MX 21, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available thru the regular update channel. Highlights include: Debian 11.6 Bullseye base; new and updated applications; the Xfce releases now feature Xfce 4.18; Fluxbox gets a new mx-rofi-manager tool to save and manage rofi configuration; the KDE release is now a full AHS-enabled release, defaulting to the 6.0 AHS kernel; the Debian Stable kernel (5.10) is still available in mx-packageinstaller." MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and former MEPIS Linux communities. Using Xfce as the default desktop (with separate KDE Plasma and Fluxbox editions also available), it is a mid-weight operating system designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple configuration, high stability, solid performance and medium-sized footprint.

Distribution Release: MX Linux 23.4 |

The MX Linux team have published an update to the distribution's 23.x series. The new version, MX Linux 23.4, includes several updates to the MX Tools suite and includes updated firmware for added hardware support. "Some highlights since our 23.3 release include: Update Xfce 4.18 core packages (Xfce ISOs and Oi respin). MX PackageInstaller now shows all installed packages in Enabled, test, and backports tabs, not just those available in a configured repo. Installed and repo version numbers are shown in table, not just tooltips. The Flatpak tab has an optional filter to show only Flathub verified Flatpaks. (MX-)live-usb-maker defaults to luks2 encryption for those making encrypted live usb devices. MX-USB-unmounter has UI improvements, plus an option to only show on tray if a removable device is inserted. pipewire-setup-mx updated to make pipewire/wireplumber startup under SysV init more reliable, especially for KDE users. MX Tweak has a KDE option to disable/enable plasma-discover's autostart systray updater notifier. AHS users have updated firmware packages (backported from Debian Sid). Fluxbox ISO now includes job-scheduler, a front end for cron (already included on other ISOs). Conky and panel should be exempt from hiding with Alt+D (show desktop). The developers of MX Linux, a Debian-based desktop distribution with graphical administration tools and a choice of three popular desktops, have announced the release of MX Linux 23.3: "MX Linux 23.3 'Libretto' released. MX Linux 23.3 is the third refresh of our MX 23 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernel, and application updates since our original release of MX 23. If you are already running MX 23, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available through the regular update channels or by installing the changed applications. Some highlights include: when using the installer's OEM mode, the user will be able to select a system language before user setup starts so that the setup will be in the chosen language, this is set up by default on the RPI respin release; updated manual and manual now divided into language-specific packages; MX Locale tool includes a function to remove all manual packages except current system default language; zstd compression option added to live-remaster (antiX live system); systemd is usable on live system in rudimentary fashion; many language updates." The MX Linux project, a Debian-based desktop distribution has published a new update to the distribution's 23.x series. MX Linux 23.2 is based on Debian 12 "Bookworm" and includes a number of fixes and improvements. "Some highlights include: installer updates addressing fstab generation, GUI simplification and fixes for users of 'toram' live feature; New 'MX Locale' tool for management of system locale information, system default language; new 'papirus-folder-colors' tool which is a fun little tool for making papirus-family themes with different folder colours; AHS Xfce release features the 6.6 Liquorix kernel, updated firmware and MESA libraries; an opt-in option for auto-updates is in MX-PackageInstaller, Popular Apps, Kernels; the KDE Plasma ISO image replaces webcamoid with kamoso; the Xfce and Fluxbox ISO images replace webamoid with guvcview; fixes to the mx-comfort-themes for some apps that had white text on white backgrounds and black text on black backgrounds; 'build-essential' packages now included on the ISO image for those users that might need to compile some drivers and not be able to get online; Pipewire 1.0." After several beta and release candidates snapshots, the final build of MX Linux 23 has been released. MX Linux 23 is based on Debian 12, uses SysVInit as its default init system and comes with a choice of Xfce, KDE Plasma and Fluxbox desktops: "MX Linux 23 is now available for download. MX Linux 23 is built from Debian 12 'Bookworm' and MX Linux repositories. As in past releases, MX Linux will default to SysVInit but systemd remains an option for installed systems. Updates from RC and beta to final are fully supported. The live boot menus now have a more obvious 'check media' function in the top level menu. The media will be checked and boot will continue if things look good. Major desktop versions: Xfce 4.18, Fluxbox 1.3.7, KDE Plasma 5.27. All releases now include the Orca screen reader and a screen magnifier tool. Fluxbox and Xfce have Magnus screen magnifier and KDE Plasma uses KMag. The developers of MX Linux have announced the availability of the first release candidate for MX Linux 23. The project's major new release is based on Debian 12 and comes with a choice of Xfce, KDE Plasma and Fluxbox desktops. "MX Linux 23 RC1 is now available for testing. MX 23 is built from Debian 12 'bookworm' and MX repositories. As in past releases, the MX will default to SysVInit but systemd remains an option for installed systems. Updates from RC to final are fully supported. This release builds upon beta 2, and includes all bug fixes and changes to date, including default wallpapers and themes as well as updated translations and applications. In this release we are very interested in installer testing. Many bugs related to Btrfs installations have been addressed. The installer has received many updates since beta 2. The installer now supports swap files as well as swap partitions. The 'regular' auto installation will default to swap files. The live boot menus now have a more obvious 'check media' function in the top level menu. The media will be checked and boot will continue if things look good. The MX Linux project has announced the release of the distribution's first edition featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. The new version includes KDE Plasma 5.14.5 and ships with the familiar MX Tools collection of utilities: "MX-19.2 KDE is an Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) enabled 64-bit only version of MX featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. Applications utilizing Qt library frameworks are given a preference for inclusion on the ISO. This will be first officially supported MX/antiX family ISO utilizing the KDE Plasma desktop since the halting of the predecessor MEPIS project in 2013. MX-19.2 KDE includes the usual MX tools, antiX-live-usb-system, and snapshot technology that our users have come to expect from our standard flagship Xfce releases. MX Linux 19.1 is a refresh of our MX 19 release, consisting of bug fixes and application updates since our original release of MX 19. If you are already running MX 19, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available thru the regular update channel. Due to the increasing presence of users with newer hardware (particularly newer AMD or Intel hardware), with this release, in addition to the standard 32-bit and 64-bit ISO images with 4.19 LTS kernels, we have produced a third ISO image that we call 'Advanced Hardware Support' or AHS (pronounced Oz) for short. AHS is 64-bit and ships with a Debian 5.4 kernel, MESA 19.2 as well as newer X.Org drivers and various recompiled applications that will use the newer graphics stack." Distribution Release: MX Linux 14.4 |

MX Linux 14.4 has been released. This is the latest update of the project's distribution developed in collaboration with the MEPIS Community and featuring the Xfce desktop. "MX 14.4 'Symbiosis' available. Upgraded bug-fix editions (PAE and non-PAE) of MX 14 are now available. This version has fixed some bugs found in MX 14.3 and Debian upstream. MX 14.4 is based on Debian 'Wheezy' uses SysVInit so MX 14.4 offers a rock-solid systemd-free experience for those who would prefer to stick with SysVInit. MX is designed to be fast, stable and light on resources. The MX 14 series will be supported until the end of life of Debian 'Wheezy'. Bug-fix and upgrade release including quite a few new enhancements. What applications are used? Clementine for music, VLC for video, full LibreOffice suite, Iceweasel for web browsing, Claws-Mail for email, Mirage for image viewing, Minitube for watching YouTube videos...." MX Linux 14.3 is a bug-fix update of the earlier release, an antiX-based distribution developed in collaboration with the MEPIS Community and featuring the Xfce desktop: "Upgraded bug-fix versions (PAE and non-PAE) of MX-14 are now available. This version has fixed some bugs found in MX-14.2 and Debian upstream. Major applications have been upgraded. We have added some new features, e.g. MX-Tools. MX-14.3 is based on Debian 'Wheezy' and therefore uses SysVInit. Now that Debian has frozen 'Jessie' and has moved to systemd, MX-14.3 offers a rock-solid systemd-free experience for those that would prefer to stick with SysVInit. The MX-14 series will be supported until the end of life of Debian 'Wheezy'. Features and changes since MX-14.2: in order to fit on a CD, Java has been removed; upgraded to Linux kernel 3.14; new MX-findshares; new libparted2; galculator upgraded to version 2.1.3; Iceweasel upgraded to version 31.2.0esr...." A bug-fix release of MX Linux 14, a variant of antiX developed in collaboration with the MEPIS Community and featuring the Xfce desktop, has been released: "MX-14.2 'Symbiosis' bug-fix upgrade release available. Upgraded bug-fix versions (PAE and non-PAE) of MX-14 are now available. This version has fixed some bugs found in MX-14.1.1 and Debian upstream. LibreOffice updated to the 4.2.5 version; Google search engine bug fixed; toned down faulty hard drive error when installing; image files open with mirage; wl modules for Broadcom wireless now on the CD image; updated documentation."
