Android-x86 is an unofficial initiative to port Google's Android mobile operating system to run on devices powered by Intel and AMD x86 processors, rather than RISC-based ARM chips. The project began as a series of patches to the Android source code to enable Android to run on various netbooks and ultra-mobile PCs, particularly the ASUS Eee PC.

The AlmaLinux OS project maintains a clone of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. The AlmaLinux team have published new development media for testing. The new release, AlmaLinux OS 9.0 Beta 1, includes Python 3.9, version 5.14 of the Linux kernel, and the GNU Compiler Collection version 11. The release announcement reports: "AlmaLinux OS 9.0 Beta is based on upstream kernel version 5.14 and contains enhancements around cloud and container development and improvements to the web console. This release also delivers enhancements for security and compliance including additional security profiles. Other various updates include Python 3.9, GCC 11 with the latest versions of LLVM, Rust and Go to make modernizing the applications faster and easier.

Jack Aboutboul has announced the release of AlmaLinux OS 9.2, the latest stable version of the project's Red Hat Enterprise Linux clone: "The AlmaLinux OS Foundation is proud to announce the general availability of AlmaLinux OS 9.2, code-named 'Turquoise Kodkod'. AlmaLinux 9.2 provides enhancements and features to the hybrid cloud's foundation and helps deliver workloads, applications and services for multiple environments faster and with less effort. This release includes security updates such as the realmd system role, a SCAP profile, and Ansible content for enhanced system checks to simplify managing security and compliance. Improvements to application streams provide compilers, runtime languages, databases and web server updates.
