Oracle Solaris
Solaris is a computer operating system, the proprietary Unix variant developed by Sun Microsystems. Early versions, based on BSD UNIX, were called SunOS. The shift to a System V code base in SunOS 5 was marked by changing the name to Solaris 2. Earlier versions were retroactively named Solaris 1.x. After version 2.6, Sun dropped the "2." from the name. Solaris consists of the SunOS UNIX base operating system plus a graphical user environment. Solaris is written in a platform-independent manner and is available for SPARC and x86 processors (including x86_64). Starting from version 10, the Solaris licence changed and the product was distributed free of charge for any system or purpose, but after the acquisition of Sun Microsystems by Oracle in 2009, the product is once again proprietary with a restrictive licence.

Rate this project
|
The MX Linux project has announced the release of the distribution's first edition featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. The new version includes KDE Plasma 5.14.5 and ships with the familiar MX Tools collection of utilities: "MX-19.2 KDE is an Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) enabled 64-bit only version of MX featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. Applications utilizing Qt library frameworks are given a preference for inclusion on the ISO. This will be first officially supported MX/antiX family ISO utilizing the KDE Plasma desktop since the halting of the predecessor MEPIS project in 2013. MX-19.2 KDE includes the usual MX tools, antiX-live-usb-system, and snapshot technology that our users have come to expect from our standard flagship Xfce releases. Adding KDE Plasma to the existing Xfce/MX-fluxbox desktops will provide for a wider range user needs and wants." Further details and a list of known issues can be found in the distribution's release announcement. Download: MX-19.2_KDE_x64.iso (2,017MB, SHA256, signature, torrent, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: MX Linux 23 |
 |
After several beta and release candidates snapshots, the final build of MX Linux 23 has been released. MX Linux 23 is based on Debian 12, uses SysVInit as its default init system and comes with a choice of Xfce, KDE Plasma and Fluxbox desktops: "MX Linux 23 is now available for download. MX Linux 23 is built from Debian 12 'Bookworm' and MX Linux repositories. As in past releases, MX Linux will default to SysVInit but systemd remains an option for installed systems. Updates from RC and beta to final are fully supported. The live boot menus now have a more obvious 'check media' function in the top level menu. The media will be checked and boot will continue if things look good. Major desktop versions: Xfce 4.18, Fluxbox 1.3.7, KDE Plasma 5.27. All releases now include the Orca screen reader and a screen magnifier tool. Fluxbox and Xfce have Magnus screen magnifier and KDE Plasma uses KMag. At this time, due to Debian's Orca packaging, Orca does not appear in the menus, but can be launched manually. In particular, Orca is configurable in KDE's integrated accessibility settings."
