PureOS
PureOS is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian. It is a desktop distribution that can be used as live media (CD or USB) or as full-featured operating systems installed on a hard disk. PureOS uses free and open source software exclusively and is endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. It ships with some privacy features enabled by default such as using DuckDuckGo as the search engine and the HTTPS Everywhere browser extension is enabled.

Alexander Tratsevskiy has announced the release of Calculate Linux 20.6, a new version of the project's Gentoo-based, rolling-release distribution set available in KDE Plasma, Cinnamon, LXQt, MATE and Xfce editions: "To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Calculate Ltd, we are pleased to unveil the new Calculate Linux 20.6 release. This new version provides numerous optimizations, namely shorter boot-up time, reduced memory requirements, and added pre-configured web browser extensions for Nextcloud support. Main changes: by default, Zram is used instead of the physical swap partition; Zstd compression for the kernel, the modules and initramfs; Linux kernel modules installed as packages come as Zstd archives too; PulseAudio is used by default, but you can choose ALSA if you like; Chromium comes with the pre-configured uBlock Origin plug-in; the Passman and FreedomMarks can be also added to your web browser...." About Calculate

Calculate Linux is a Gentoo-based family of three distinguished distributions. Calculate Directory Server (CDS) is a solution that supports Windows and Linux clients via LDAP + SAMBA, providing proxy, mail and Jabbers servers with streamlined user management. Calculate Linux Desktop (CLD) is a workstation and client distribution (with a choice of Cinnamon, KDE Plasma, LXQt, MATE or Xfce desktops) that includes a wizard to configure a connection to Calculate Directory Server. Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS) is a live CD with a build framework for creating a custom distribution.

This new (year) version includes a server Calculate Container Manager for working with LXC, a new cl-lxc tool, and it features mirror selection for updates. Main changes: all desktop environments have been updated, namely KDE Plasma 5.25.5, Xfce 4.18, MATE 1.26.0, Cinnamon 5.6.5 and LXQt 1.2; we launched a new server flavour, Calculate Container Manager, for running LXC containers; a new tool, cl-lxc, has been added - it allows creating and updating Calculate Linux containers; the cl-update tool now features mirror selection for binary packages; an availability test has been added for Git repositories...." Distribution Release: Calculate Linux 22 |

Calculate Linux is a Gentoo-based distribution with several desktop editions, a cloud and a server edition. The project has published a new version, Calculate 22: "We are pleased to announce the release of Calculate Linux 22. With this new version, you will be able to smoothly update your system after a long period of time. We also ported the Calculate Utilities to Python 3, and set PipeWire as the default sound server. Calculate Linux Desktop featuring the KDE (CLD), Cinnamon (CLDC), LXQt (CLDL), Mate (CLDM) or Xfce (CLDX and CLDXS) desktop, Calculate Directory Server (CDS), Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS) and Calculate Scratch Server (CSS) are now available for download. Changes: added support for long intervals between systems updates - now you can upgrade whenever you want, even if you have not updated your system for a long time; the latest Calculate Utils 3.7 have been fully transitioned to Python 3 and Python 2.7 has been removed from the distribution image; PulseAudio audio has been replaced by PipeWire, you can still select ALSA if this is what you prefer; added Bluetooth support for ALSA." Distribution Release: Calculate Linux 21 |

Calculate Linux is a Gentoo-based distribution which provides customized editions for a variety of tasks. There are several desktop flavours, a server edition, and there is now reportedly an edition for running Steam games in containers. The new Calculate Linux 21 version ships with the Btr filesystem as the default for fresh installs. "We are pleased to announce the release of Calculate Linux 21. It includes a new Calculate Container Games flavor, allowing you to run Steam games on your computer. All packages in the binary repository were recompiled with GCC 10.2 and packed with Zstd. Calculate Linux Desktop user profiles now synchronize much faster. Alexander Tratsevskiy has announced the release of Calculate Linux 20, a major update of the project's Gentoo-based, rolling-release distribution set available in KDE Plasma, Cinnamon, LXQt, MATE and Xfce flavours. This version upgrades many packages, but it also drops the i686 architecture: "For this new release, Gentoo 17.1 was used as the base profile, all binary packages recompiled with GCC 9.2, and overlays managed with eselect. Calculate Linux will no longer come in 32-bit edition. Change list: a local overlay has been added; you can run 'emerge --config' to launch the new cl-config tool for service configuration; 'modesetting' video driver supported; CPU-X has been replaced by the graphical HardInfo utility for better hardware browsing; MPlayer has been replaced by mpv; cronie replaces vixie-cron for cron job scheduling; fixed single disk auto-detection for installation; fixed bug where several applications played ALSA audio at the same time; fixed default audio device configuration; Xfce desktop has been updated to 4.14...." Distribution Release: Calculate Linux 18.12 |

Alexander Tratsevskiy has announced the release of Calculate Linux 18.12, an updated build of the project's Gentoo-based distribution for desktops and servers. This release updates the Linux kernel to version 4.19.9 and it also brings a new "Education" edition: "Calculate Linux 18.12 released. We have a bunch of news for this final 2018 release. We have added support for installation on Btrfs with zstd compression. All server editions have been optimized for size. Software can now be transferred when re-installing the system. Our ISO images are packed in the zstd format to speed up the start-up times for the live image, applications and system installation. Software: 32-bit and 64-bit builds moved to Linux kernel 4.19.9, KDE Applications updated to 18.08.3, KDE Plasma updated to 5.14.3, Cinnamon updated to 4.0.3. Alexander Tratsevskiy has announced the release of Calculate Linux 18 "LXQt" edition, a new variant of the project's Gentoo-based set of distributions with LXQt as the default desktop: "We are happy to announce the release of a new Calculate Linux Desktop flavour, featuring the LXQt desktop and therefore named CLDL. CLDL is the fifth little one in the Calculate Linux Desktop family, providing a fully-fledged workplace for both office and home. This new distribution perfectly combines the advantages of Qt 5, which is indeed the base for its interface, with the low system requirements of the Openbox window manager. CLDL is localized out-of-box in all standard European languages. CLDL offers the same sleek design as other Calculate Linux desktops, which means that you will immediately feel familiar with it. Note that in Firefox, an ad blocker is turned on by default while telemetry is disabled. CLDL implements single user authentication for Calculate Directory Server, roaming user profiles and sharing access privileges to network devices with Windows clients. This release features the very latest 4.18 Linux kernel and the much improved Calculate utilities and installation tool which have all been ported to Qt 5. From the release announcement: "We are happy to announce the release of Calculate Linux 18. In this latest version, Calculate Utilities have been ported to Qt 5, your network is managed in a different way, and binary packages get checked using their index signature. Changes: the graphical installation interface has been ported to Qt 5; the command line installation interface now features auto partition detection based on passed options; it is possible to select a keyboard layout; it is possible to use only one (root) position; easier installation on VPS/VDS; live USB image boots up faster; NVIDIA driver installation log is sent to tty12 at live USB boot-up time; Calculate provides 12,363 binary packages; our approach to network configuration changed - network parameters are not updated while installing network management tools...." Calculate Linux is a Gentoo-based rolling release distribution which is available in several desktop and server editions. The project's latest version, Calculate Linux 17.12.2, features fixes for the Spectre and Meltdown CPU bugs, restores functionality for LXC containers, permits renaming of network interfaces and makes it possible to use a file for swap space in place of a disk partition. "We are pleased to announce the release of Calculate Linux 17.12.2, based on Gentoo 17.0. Therefore, the whole of the packages were rebuilt and some fixes done. Eight flavors are now available for download: Calculate Linux Desktop supplied with the KDE (CLD), Cinnamon (CLDC), Mate (CLDM) or else Xfce (CLDX) environment, Calculate Directory Server (CDS), Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS), Calculate Scratch Server (CSS) an Calculate Container Scratch (CCS). We moved to the new Gentoo 17.0 profile. All binary packages were rebuilt, in the repo as well as on Live DVDs/USBs. All currently available Meltdown and Spectre patches were included."
