The MX Linux development team has announced the release of MX Linux 19.2, a new stable version of the project's desktop Linux distribution based on Debian (stable) and antiX. This release includes bug fixes and software updates: "We are pleased to offer MX 19.2 for your use. MX 19.2 is the second refresh of our MX 19 release, consisting of bug fixes and application updates since our original release of MX 19. If you are already running MX 19, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available through the regular update channel. The standard MX 19.2 releases (32-bit and 64-bit editions) feature the latest Debian 4.19 Linux kernel and, unlike in the past, the kernel will now auto-update along with Debian sources by default. The AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) ISO image features a Debian 5.6 Linux kernel, MESA 20, as well as a new updated firmware package. As usual, this release includes the latest updates from Debian 10.4 and MX repositories: Xfce 4.14, GIMP 2.10.12, MESA 18.3.6 (20.0.7 ahs), updated firmware, Firefox 76, VLC 3.0.10, Clementine 1.3.1, Thunderbird 68.6.1, LibreOffice 6.1.5 (plus security fixes)." MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and former MEPIS Linux communities. Using Xfce as the default desktop (with separate KDE Plasma and Fluxbox editions also available), it is a mid-weight operating system designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple configuration, high stability, solid performance and medium-sized footprint.

Development Release: MX Linux 23 Beta 1 |

Following two unannounced alpha releases, the first beta of MX Linux 23 has been officially released. It is based on the upcoming Debian 12 and features Xfce 4.18, KDE Plasma 5.27 and Fluxbox 1.3.7. "MX Linux 23 beta 1 is now available for testing. MX Linux 23 is built from Debian 12 'Bookworm' and MX repositories. As in past releases, the MX will default to SysVInit but systemd remains an option for installed systems. As well as a ton of under-the-hood work, here are some items that are new in MX Linux 23 beta 1: the installer now supports swap files as well as swap partitions; the 'regular' auto installation will default to swap files; there are many other installer changes, including GUI adjustments, setting of some debconf values to make legacy grub-pc updates more seamless, various fixes for GRUB install functions and cleanup of 'dump' entries that might be clogging up a user's nvram; there is also additional help guidance right in the installer GUI...." The MX Linux team have announced the release of an update to the project's 21.x series. The new version includes Xfce 4.18 and an optional updated kernel with new hardware support. "MX Linux 21.3 is the third refresh of our MX 21 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernels and application updates since our original release of MX Linux 21. If you are already running MX 21, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available thru the regular update channel. Highlights include: Debian 11.6 Bullseye base; new and updated applications; the Xfce releases now feature Xfce 4.18; Fluxbox gets a new mx-rofi-manager tool to save and manage rofi configuration; the KDE release is now a full AHS-enabled release, defaulting to the 6.0 AHS kernel; the Debian Stable kernel (5.10) is still available in mx-packageinstaller." MX Linux 21.2 is out. The latest update of the number one distribution in our page hit ranking statistics continues to be based on Debian 11 and its 5.10 Linux kernel, but the AHS variant of the Xfce edition now comes with the Linux kernel 5.18. The MX Linux team have published an update to their 21.x series. The new update, MX Linux 21.1, includes a refreshed Debian base, a new tool for configuring Samba shares and updated hardware support. The MX Linux team has announced the launch of MX Linux 21. The new release is available in three editions: Xfce, KDE Plasma, and Fluxbox. "We are pleased to offer MX-21 for your use. Things that are new in MX-21: Debian 11 'Bullseye' base. New and updated applications. New installer partition selection/management area, including some LVM support if LVM volume exists already and the ability to set existing data partitions to be mounted on install. New UEFI live system boot menus. UEFI live users can now select your live boot options (persistence, etc) from the boot menu and sub-menus rather than using the previous console menus. Xfce 4.16, Plasma 5.20, Fluxbox 1.3.7 with mx-fluxbox 3.0 configs. User password (sudo) for admin tasks by default. You can switch this in mx-tweak->Other tab. MX-Tour showing an overview of each desktop environment. Translation updates! MX-Comfort default theming, including dark variants and 'thick border' Xfwm variants. The developers of MX Linux have released the latest development snapshot of the upcoming version 21 for testing. MX 21 is built from Debian 'Bullseye' and MX repositories. Things that are new in the beta 1: new and updated applications; new installer partition selection area, including some LVM support if LVM volume exists already; new UEFI live system boot menus, now you can select your live boot options (persistence) from the boot menu and submenus rather than using the previous console menus; Xfce 4.16; user password (sudo) for administration tasks by default, you can switch this in mx-tweak/Other tab; many small configuration changes, particularly on the panel with new default panel plugins. With this beta 1 release, we are particularly interested in testing the new UEFI live system boot menus as well as testing the installer.
